2 Job Description Sova Circles of Support and Accountability Service Leader - Merseyside For 40 years Sova has worked across England and Wales with thousands of people helping them steer clear of crime. When people find themselves in difficult situations, we make sure they have someone on their side to help them find the confidence to make choices to improve the quality of their lives. Whether it is about finding a job or finding friends, understanding how to manage money or discovering new prospects, we help people change their lives for the better. Sova s vision is for a society where people have the stability and confidence to steer clear of crime and make better choices. To achieve this, we offer personal support and practical advice to help build stability both at work and at home enabling people to make better choices and improve the quality of their lives. Sova work with a range of partners and we currently receive our funding from a number of sources including Ministry of Justice, Local Authorities, Private Sector companies, Probation Trusts and grant and trust awarding bodies. Sova is a wholly owned subsidiary of CRI and whilst we have retained our independent charity registration, we are now part of the wider CRI Group. For information about CRI and their work, please see their website CONTEXT The Service Leader will have the skills and knowledge required to successfully pilot a new and innovative project in Merseyside (based in Liverpool). Sova has recently received funding via the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund to establish a new pathway of care for high risk, high harm sexual offenders to live offence free lives in the community. This innovative project is in partnership with Circles UK. The role requires excellent understanding, knowledge and expertise of managing projects from implementation, a commitment to performance, sound understanding of complex funding and contractual arrangements, experience of building networks with other partners with other agencies (such as probation and police), direct experience of working with high risk offenders, and experience of recruiting and managing volunteers in the community. The work is complex and challenging, but can be very rewarding, involving assessing risk. You should have a working knowledge of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, in particular the recent changes. Additional training on this will be given to the right candidate

3 PRINCIPAL TASKS Operational Performance Take operational responsibility for contract compliance and achievement of performance against targets Create and implement a Circles of Support and Accountability Develop, monitor and review a project operational plan which includes detailed analysis of risk, continuous improvement and contingency planning. Promote the project Develop a specific volunteer role description and identify an appropriate recruitment strategy Implement agreed monitoring and evaluation systems and provide high quality reports for a variety of audiences Ensure effective communication, referral systems, record keeping and quality assurance are maintained Provide intensive supervision and support for volunteers Management of Staff Line-manage relevant posts, providing leadership in recruitment, induction, supervision, development and support, ensuring staff operate efficiently and effectively. Manage grievance, disciplinary and capability procedures in line with Sova policies. Manage performance of individuals in line with Sova policy External liaison To arrange, coordinate and participate in regular steering group meetings with project partner and stakeholders Foster appropriate networks, partnerships and professional relationships to support the continued development of Sova in this specialist field Attend relevant conferences, seminars and network events to raise the profile of Sova. Develop information sharing protocols between MAPPA agencies in Liverpool and the Sova Circles of Support and Accountability project in Liverpool Resource management To manage expenditure against project budget in line with Sova financial regulations To manage project premises including the implementation of health and safety and security policies and procedures across all project sites. Internal Responsibilities To take responsibility for area promotion, development and forward planning and to contribute to Sova beyond the project (but not to the detriment of the pilot)

4 To be responsible for making central returns including sickness, statistical monitoring, petty cash and expenses and for liaising with Sova s central departments appropriately. Undertake criminal record checks and security clearance as required Attend, as required, internal meetings, training and other events. Overtime is not payable as Sova operates a time off in lieu system for any hours worked in addition to those stated. This post is subject to a 6-month probationary period wherein one week s notice is required on either side. Once confirmed in post, the notice period is one month. This post is currently funded until October Whilst all efforts will be made to secure continuing funding Sova can only guarantee the post until the set date. 26 days (pro rata), plus all Public Holidays. January - December Auto enrolment for all eligible staff All costs other than home to office are reimbursed according to regulations and within budget.
