3 About Knowsley Community College Knowsley Community College is an innovative and dynamic Further Education College based in the Liverpool region. Our track record of high quality education and training from our two main campuses, as well as our partner and employer locations, makes us the bustling hub of learning and employment in the area. The College currently has about 4000 student s enrolments each year and approximately 260 teaching and support staff. The range of courses extends from Pre-Entry, GCSEs, A Levels, Diplomas and NVQs to Higher Education and professional qualifications. The College also operates in the community and on employers premises as well as providing part-time and evening course provision. The College remains one of the largest providers of Apprenticeships in Merseyside, and through its Employer Engagement Unit, responds proactively to the needs of employers across the region addressing the workforce development agenda. The College has extended the range of support available to adults who are unemployed and has established an innovative new service called WorkWorld operating from premises in Kirkby and deliver specialist courses in conjunction with JobCentre Plus and local employers. Located within walking distance of the College s Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Technology at Princess Drive, the college will include state of the art facilities and equipment, industry standard commercial kitchens and an attractive terrace garden restaurant, multi-use games pitches, The Lee Stafford Hair Academy, a brand new home for 99.8FM KCC Live and much more. 5 Staff Benefits: Pension Schemes - academic staff have access to the Teachers' Pension Scheme (your employer contributes 14.1%, and you contribute 7.4% 11.7%). 6 Job Coach Supported Internship 37 hours per week Fixed Term until 31 August 2017 Salary up to 24,957 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) Knowsley Community College is working in partnership with Knowsley Council to develop a Supported Internship program of skills training to increase employment opportunities for young people with support needs. In this role you will be helping individuals to develop a work ethic and become high performing employees. The role involves supporting young people and adults with learning difficulties/disabilities in a classroom setting as well as providing individual support on learners work experience placements in Knowsley Council. You will need to have experience of supporting individuals with learning disabilities along with an ability to work with a range of partners, support agencies and employees. 7 KNOWSLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Job Coach Fixed Term until 31 August 2017 GRADE: Salary up to 24,957 depending on qualifications and experience BROAD STATEMENT OF JOB FUNCTION: To support groups of young people and adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities in a classroom setting as well as providing 1-1 support on individual s work experience placements within Knowsley Council. Initially, this is a fixed term post with the intention of further Supported Internship programmes thereafter. RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Faculty (Service Industries and Supported Learning) Section Manager Supported Learning Intern OTHER RELATIONSHIPS: Knowsley Council Supported Internship representatives Personal Tutors Learner Services Marketing team College staff and external stakeholders Students, Parents, Cares & External Agencies MAIN ACTIVITIES: 1. Manage individuals with a range of skills, abilities and support needs ensuring effective flexible support is provided that allows participants to successfully progress into and sustain employment. 2. Deliver training and coaching that meets the needs of all participants and ensures that targets and associated outcomes of the Supported Internship programme are achieved. 3. To support participants on the job to learn the tasks/duties and core skills that are required for each role. 4. To ensure protection of vulnerable persons and follow procedures as appropriate where issues of concern are presented. 5. 8 6. To train individuals in specific job skills in a range of working environments within Knowsley Council. 7. To maintain regular contact with employers and monitor individuals progress in work offering ongoing support and training as required. 8. To work towards the optimum independence of the individual within the work place, ensuring an appropriate level of support at all times. 9. To carry out risk assessment and audits of work place rotations as part of training activity and work preparation. 10. To prepare information and regular updates to management in respect of performance and any operational issues likely to present a risk to the projected outcomes of service delivery. 11. To create resources/materials to assist in the participant s progress. 12. To collate evidence from placements to support the Supported Learning mentor and the participant in achieving their qualification. 13. To work with managers and colleagues of the participants to ensure positive relations are established. 14. To work with managers and co-workers to educate on disability and individual support needs. 15. To take part in student placement reviews and attend project steering meetings. 16. To support individuals with personal care and hygiene if required. OTHER ACTIVITIES: Participate in staff development activities in consultation with Line Manager. Identify own training needs. Contribute to group and team discussions on staff development. Other duties compatible with the post, as defined by the Principal or her representative. Actively promote Equality and Diversity, College Values and the Safe Learner concept. SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Must be prepared to: Work at any of the College and Council centres and travel between sites when necessary. Ability to understand the barriers that individuals with learning disabilities face when seeking employment. High standard of written and verbal skills and familiar with producing reports and maintaining records. An ability to engage positively and supportively with individuals and their families/carers. Proven teamwork, time management and organisational skills. Ability to motivate self and others and use own initiative. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of individual need and the key elements of person centred planning. DESIRABLE Experience of working with vulnerable people including those with disabilities and mental health problems. Experience of delivering person centred support. Able to demonstrate an awareness of Supported Internship programmes. Knowledge of disability equality and legislation. Risk assessment skills. Attributes: Sensitive, flexible and supportive style.
