1 COURSE DESCRIPTION COURSE TITLE: Spanish I Course Number: NM RISD Open to Grades: 7-8 Prerequisites: Credit: Length of Course: None None 2 semesters COURSE DESCRIPTION: Spanish I introduces the basics of speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. The major emphasis is on oral fluency and listening comprehension. As much as is possible, the class will be conducted in Spanish. Students are expected to speak Spanish daily. Student will thereby learn the proper grammatical constructions in order to express themselves. State Standards and Benchmarks met within this curriculum: A. Students will; by speaking, writing, and/r signing, etc.; express themselves in a culturally appropriate manner for many purposes. B. Students will; by listening, observing, reading, and discussions; comprehend and interpret oral, written, and visual messages on a variety of topics. C. Students will understand the relationship between language and culture. D. Students will develop an understanding of other cultures, including such elements as their value systems, languages, traditions, and individual perspectives. E. Students will understand how languages work. F. Students will use languages studied to reinforce and expand knowledge of other disciplines. G. Students will use the languages studied for personal enjoyment, personal enrichment, and employability. COURSE MEASUREMENT: A. Students are required to complete listening, speaking, writing, and reading activities with a minimum 60% proficiency during the given grading period in order to receive credit for the course. 1
