I would like to thank the community for extending me a warm welcome when I arrived at Antelope Valley Hospital in late Joining a healthcare district with such a strong legacy of caring for the community makes me proud to be part of the organization. The hospital has changed significantly over the past year as we progress into our 60 th year of service in the Antelope Valley. Dramatic improvements have been made to the look of the facility and we are undergoing a cultural, patient-centered care transformation as well. Antelope Valley Healthcare District is committed to quality, cost-effective care and community outreach that will better the lives of those we serve. 4 About Antelope Valley Hospital is a 420-bed not-for-profit district hospital, located in northern Los Angeles County. As the Antelope Valley s only full-service hospital we provide care to more than 200,000 patients annually. The locally elected Board of Directors and the entire staff of the Antelope Valley Healthcare District are committed to providing the highest-quality, patient-centered, compassionate care to our patients and the community. The hospital serves as a major economic engine in the community with 2,500 employees working with 450 physicians and more than 400 volunteers. Building on its nearly 60 year history of service, the hospital continues to grow and evolve with new services, programs and technologies to deliver excellent care to those who live, work and visit the Antelope Valley and surrounding communities. We celebrate our partnership with City of Hope and are proud to offer world class cancer care on our campus in Lancaster, CA. Additionally, we are home to one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Southern California as well as the only Level II Trauma Center available to the local community. In calendar year 2013 our Trauma Center treated over 900 patients. Our 115- acre main campus also includes a full array of medical surgical services, a Women and Infants Pavilion complete with the area s only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), mental health services and more. Antelope Valley Hospital has received five stars in maternity care from HealthGrades for the past five consecutive years, and has ranked in the nation s top 5 percent for the past three years. Additionally, in 2014, Antelope Valley Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Doddanna Krishna established the Advisory Board Subcommittee on Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Prevention Project. The mission of The Alcohol, Tobacco and Drug Prevention Project is to educate residents in the Antelope Valley about the potential negative effects of these substances. Through innovative programming, peer education, outreach and community collaborations, the project serves to create a harm-free environment in which community members can achieve their life goals and acquire skills necessary for sobriety and life-long success. 4

Services Antelope Valley Healthcare District offers care in 66 different specialties providing a full array of medical/surgical services, obstetrics, pediatric care, a NICU, comprehensive cancer care, mental health services and the only Level II Trauma Center taking care of patients complex injuries while also serving as a resource to assist other hospitals through consultation, education and more. Realizing that violence is a healthcare issue, the Antelope Valley Healthcare District has supported community benefit programs helping victims of crime for over 35 years. AV Hospital s Forensic Services Unit (FSU) is a unique program, the only one of its kind in the state of California. The function of the unit is to assess, document, photograph and collect evidence on all sexual assault, violent crime or domestic abuse cases presenting to the hospital or referred by law enforcement. The FSU also coordinates the medical/legal needs of victims and provides compassionate care to those who have experienced life changing events. This program, largely unfunded, but supported by the hospital, functions out of the Emergency Department. The FSU is designated by the County of Los Angeles as a SART Center of Excellence. Antelope Valley Hospital s comprehensive diagnostic imaging services include a state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner, MRI and ultrasound staffed by radiologists 24/7. These highly-skilled radiologists use leading edge technology to develop new techniques that result in improved patient care in the more than 200,000 studies and therapeutic procedures performed each year. In 2014, Antelope Valley Hospital partnered with City of Hope to open a comprehensive cancer center on campus. The center provides Antelope Valley residents with access to advanced diagnostic and treatment services including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy in addition to a Community Resource Center for conferences and events. Antelope Valley Hospital is one of only 16 hospitals in Los Angeles County to be approved as a STEMI Receiving Center, in which paramedics are instructed to bring patients with acute cardiac myocardial infraction (heart attack) to the hospital because of the quality of care provided. 6

And, Antelope Valley Hospital believes that each patient has the right to not only considerate and respectful care, but the assurance that their individual cultural, psychosocial, spiritual needs, as well as their personal values, beliefs and preferences, will be respected. Trauma/Emergency Care Each year, the Antelope Valley Hospital Emergency Department receives more than 100,000 patient visits, making it one of the busiest emergency departments in Southern California. Antelope Valley Hospital s Forensic Services Unit (FSU) the only program of its kind in California offers 24/7 medical care, comfort and support to victims of assault. Our Level II Trauma Center treats over 900 patients each year. Women and Infants Pavilion Antelope Valley Hospital s Women and Infants Pavilion, opened in 2006, creates an environment where families can experience birth with the right blend of comfort and technology to support them. The pavilion s home-like atmosphere offers couplet care, a technologically advanced NICU and three surgery suites. As the regions only provider of obstetrical services, Antelope Valley Hospital delivers more than 5,500 babies a year. Institute for Heart & Vascular Care In the fall of 2014, Antelope Valley Hospital opened a new Institute for Heart & Vascular Care offering comprehensive patient-centered cardiovascular care in one location. The Institute features two new Catheterization Labs allowing staff to perform urgent, life-saving procedures on patients suffering from heart attacks, strokes and traumatic injuries. The Catheterization Labs contain all-digital cardiovascular imaging systems capable of performing complex procedures. 7

Community Events Each year, Antelope Valley Hospital and our partner City of Hope sponsor a booth at the Antelope Valley Poppy Festival. Festival goers are invited to receive free blood pressure screenings and learn about a variety of healthrelated topics including exercise and nutrition, as well as the many services offered at both facilities. Participants are also encouraged to play games and win prizes. Every quarter, Antelope Valley Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dennis M. Knox and the Executive Management Team host Fireside Chats in which employees, volunteers and physicians are given an informative hospital update and Q&A session. Members of the community are also welcome to attend the evening session. On select Thursdays each month, Antelope Valley Hospital offers free community health education lectures. These lectures feature timely information on a broad variety of current medical topics and are an effective way for physicians to provide valuable health information to the community. 8

Awards Antelope Valley Hospital is proud to deliver award-winning service to the community. In 2014, Antelope Valley Hospital was recognized by the Health Services Advisory Group, a Quality Improvement Organization for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, for its dedication to patient safety. The recognition highlights the hospital s success in reducing healthcare associated infections. Additionally, Antelope Valley Hospital has received five stars in maternity care from HealthGrades for the past five consecutive years, and has ranked in the nation s top 5 percent for the past three years. Antelope Valley Hospital is also proud to be partnered with City of Hope which U.S.News ranked among best hospitals for cancer. The magazine s list of best hospitals ranked the institution 12 out of 900 eligible for consideration. The annual rankings recognize the nation s premier hospitals, and inclusion on the list is widely considered an indicator of quality care. Antelope Valley Hospital is the only provider of inpatient mental health care in the region. 9
