2 graduate students Present Autism Consultant/ Disability and Education Specialist School Consultation Services, Starkville, MS I worked with students, teachers, and families in local school districts and Head Start centers and in the homes on a contractual basis. I planned educational programming, designed interventions, designed data collection procedures,consulted with teachers, families, and directors of special education to determine proper goals, objectives and supports for children with autism and other disabilities. I attended IEP meetings and worked closely with families and schools to settle disputes concerning educational programming. I conducted assessments, designed data collection procedures, and provided one-to-one intervention to children with autism, hearing impairment, Down Syndrome, and multiple disabilities. I trained parents, teachers, and paraprofessionals in behavioral interventions based on the principals of applied behavioral analysis Special Education Teacher, Aberdeen City Schools, Aberdeen, MS I served 7 th and 8 th grade special education students in an inclusion setting. I worked individually and in small groups with special education students to meet IEP goals and objectives. I wrote IEPs and chaired IEP committees. I served as instructional interventionist for 3 rd and 4 th grade students. I assisted interim principal as acting assistant principal English Teacher/ Assistant Football Coach, Lee County Schools, Shannon, MS I taught English I and English II to students at the high school level. I participated in staff development and helped write the pacing guide for English I, II, III, and IV. I served as an assistant coach for the football team. 3 I taught Language Arts to students from 6 th to 12 th grade in an alternative setting. I served as an assistant coach for football, girls softball and soccer. COURSES TAUGHT Mississippi State University (2011-Present) EDX 3203 Introduction to Learning Disorders - This is an introductory course that allows students to explore the integrities for learning; receptive, associative, and expressive disorders; specific learning disabilities. EDX 3213 Psychology of the Exceptional Child - This is an introduction to exceptional children and youth who deviate from the average in physical, mental, emotional, and social characteristics. Program planning is surveyed. This course is a requirement for all elementary, secondary, and special education majors. EDX 3223 Introduction to Emotional and Behavioral Disorders - The purpose of this survey course is to acquaint students with emotionally disturbed and behaviorally disordered children, giving an overview of the theoretical approaches in their education. EDX 3233 Contingency Management with the Exceptional Child - Competency- Based Instructional Sequence and field experience. A study of the components of contingency management with emphasis on application in the field with exceptional children. Students become familiar with the basics of applied behavioral analysis. EDX 4113/6113 Diagnostic-Prescriptive Methods and Materials for Early Childhood Disabilities - The course incorporates primarily specialty area studies (i.e. studies of early childhood intervention for children with disabilities) but includes components of professional studies (i.e. pre-service teachers collaborating with other professionals, etc.) as well as the world of practice as found in a field-based practicum. Responsibilities included syllabus construction, preparation and delivery of course material, organization of practicum, and supervision of 24 pre-service teachers as they work with students in the practicum setting. EDX 4133/6133 Diagnostic-Prescriptive Methods and Materials for Mild/Moderate and Severe Students in Secondary Schools The course encompasses all possible placements for students in secondary schools. The course includes 6 hours of Jon Cash Ph.D. Curriculum and Instruction jlc19@msstate.edu page 3
4 practicum per week where students work under classroom teachers and receive hands-on experience with middle and high school students. Responsibilities included syllabus construction, preparation and delivery of course material, organization of practicum with secondary school administration, and the supervision of 26 pre-service teachers as they work with students in the practicum setting. EPY 3253 Assessment in Special Education- The course introduces undergraduate students to the world of assessment in special education, an overview of different types of assessment, and an introduction to psychometrics. Requirements for students include: creating and delivering instruction using authentic assessment, analysis and delivery of criterion reference and norm- referenced tests with secondary students, and making data-based decisions. Responsibilities included: syllabus construction, preparation and delivery of course materials, organization and collaboration of testing opportunities for students in K-12 settings. EDX 8403 Teaching Students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders The course introduces graduate students to writing functional behavioral assessments, how to design and implement behavioral intervention plans, and how to work collaboratively with school personnel to create individualized educational plans for children with EBD. Responsibilities included preparation and delivery of course materials. ONLINE COURSE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMNETATION: EDX 4113/6113 Diagnostic-Prescriptive Methods and Materials for Early Childhood Disabilities - The course incorporates primarily specialty area studies (i.e. studies of earlychildhood intervention for children with disabilities) but includes components of professional studies (i.e. pre-service teachers collaborating with other professionals, etc.) as well as the world of practice as found in a field-based practicum. This is an organization for students and families who have autism spectrum disorders at Mississippi State University. The organization is in its first year on campus and we ve elected officers, planned fundraising activities, and supported students in their efforts to build autism awareness on campus and in the surrounding community. COMMUNITY SERVICE Praxis 1 Workshop Presented biannual workshop to prepare students from Meridian, MS and surrounding area, including community colleges, to prepare for and be successful in completing the Praxis 1 test for to enter teacher education, finish degree sequence, or enter the profession through MAT or alternate route. 7 Camp Jigsaw- MSU This is a camp that allows in-service graduate students, many of whom are practicing educators in public schools, the opportunity to plan, implement, and work hands-on at a day camp for children with high functioning autism. Responsibilities included supervision of in-service teachers, serving as counselor to children with high functioning autism, working with university and community professionals to provide support for the week long camp, and planning research projects to help advance the body of knowledge concerning adolescents and high functioning autism.
