2 Vision The Scottish Volleyball Association shall provide the leadership, structures and developments for individual members and clubs to embrace the changes and opportunities identified in our Strategic Plans, and together we shall work tirelessly to make Scottish Volleyball; 30% Bigger, Better and Stronger The Scottish Volleyball Association s Strategic Plan The SVA s Strategic Plan is an exciting 12 year vision that is designed to see Scottish Volleyball expand, develop and achieve a growth of 30% across the sport as a whole. The Bigger, Better, Stronger Strategic Plan has established our foundations for the successful development of Scottish Volleyball through to Now almost complete, we have succeeded in achieving the aims and outcomes of this plan, highlighted on page 3. The plan forms the middle section of our strategy pyramid, which combines three, four year cycles to achieve our 2021 vision. It continues the theme of having three key strategic development threads and our ambition is for a Bigger Sport developing competitions, regional programmes and facilities; a Better Profile of Volleyball, improving national performance with increased business and financial partners; and for Stronger Clubs, sustaining and increasing Indoor, Beach and Sitting Volleyball through regional and local programmes specifically aimed at schools and youth. The plan has evolved through an extensive process of consultation with all sections of Scottish Volleyball, and partner organisations. Its success will be measured through consistent and focused evaluation of our Key Performance Indicators and effective governance and management of staff, commissions and volunteers. The consultation provided strong development indicators leading our sport:- to be Bigger - We need to attract more people, and offer them a range of appropriate competitions on a regional and national basis to establish a Better profile - We need to develop the people who make up Scottish Volleyball and retain them for a lifetime of involvement to create Stronger clubs - The SVA shall deliver new and exciting initiatives which shall empower members to take ownership of growth specific to their needs By 2021, we envisage a national home for Scottish volleyball and a varied and exciting events programme for an ever greater and more skilled membership. 6 Competition and Regions Bigger Sport Competitions and Regional What is it? Ensure competition and support infrastructure delivered by the SVA meets the needs of clubs, players, coaches, officials and spectators and deliver the long term growth and aspirations of the sport. The SVA competitions survey provided more than double the response of any other member survey. Member views on competitive structures matter. The SVA membership said; In 5 years time, I would like to see full squads and full leagues improving competition. We have to encourage people to play. Key Thread Area of focus Competition Structure Activity An integrated competition structure will allow clubs to provide appropriate opportunities for juniors, students and seniors, of all abilities. Overseen by Competitions Advisory Group Focus on improving performance Grow regional and junior national leagues Establish competitive sitting volleyball league Outcomes 10% increase in number of teams registered across all leagues 70% satisfaction with competitions as measured by the competitions survey 2 SVA clubs to participate in CEV competition Regional Approach A regional approach will bring support and opportunities closer to clubs and members, providing the capacity for growth. Establish regional club development officers providing local support to clubs and partners Grow regional programmes, opportunities and competitions 4 regional club development officers in post 25% increase in club membership in regional officer areas. 200 registered youth beach festival participants across the 4 regional areas Facilities Access to quality local facilities at affordable prices is vital to the sustainability and development of clubs. For performance squads, the right facilities will support improvement. Collate annual detail of volleyball investment in local economy Endorsed local performance access schemes for athletes and clubs. Formalised performance use agreements with LA facility providers Establish an indoor beach training facility Secure inclusion within a national centre for sport 6

7 People and Performance Better Profile People and Performance What is it? Develop the expertise and ability of the people who make up Scottish Volleyball. There were 5 Scottish Athletes in the GB Olympic Teams. All 5 started their careers playing in a Scottish Club that competed in the Scottish National League The SVA membership said; bring through not only players, but officials and volunteers, both young and parents. This will build a stronger family feel.. Key Thread Area of focus Workforce Development Player Development & National Squads Marketing & Profile Activity Developing coaches, officials and volunteers that contribute to the sport at all levels. Coach and officials education opportunities linked to development pathways Appointed match official system for Division 1 Annual volunteer and member awards events Invest in and promote female leadership locally, nationally and within CEV and FIVB. A strong player development pathway leading to international opportunities will provide role models and give young players something to aspire to, helping clubs to attract and retain new members. Integrated National Youth Development programme Annual performance camp Establish a GB performance programme in Scotland Establish an elite beach programme targeted towards participation in 2018 Commonwealth Games To grow the sport, high quality people and strong clubs has to be supplemented by a greater profile locally and nationally. Promote volleyball within Community Sport Hubs Promote National League club games and develop a supporters membership programme. Host major volleyball events Outcomes 15% increase in Level 1 and 2 UKCC participants Develop 4 officials through FIVB Pathway Beach, Indoor and Sitting 1 Scottish Olympic Referee in Rio % of clubs have at least 2 active non-playing volunteers. Two new Technical/ Refereeing CEV Delegates 12 volleyball athletes supported by the sportscotland Institute of Sport 14 Scottish professional athletes in European competition Men s and Women s teams to be European Small Countries Division finalists 4 Scottish athletes in GB squad for Rio Scottish athletes in YOG squad for 2018 (if Glasgow bid successful) 1 male, 1 female SCO beach pairing to reach qualification standards for 2018 Commonwealth Games (if included) Volleyball introduced into 4 Community Sport Hubs 60% of NL Clubs to promote at least 2 home matches per season. The continuing focus of this strategic plan will be to increase participation and support clubs to cater for new players and volunteers through sustainability, increasing capacity and good governance The meet me at the net project has created a successful pathway between the SVA and its members, and now demonstrates a better understanding from the SGB to the needs of our clubs The SVA membership said; Clubs needs a longer-term view of their own development and need to have an effective plan to guide them to success Key Thread Area of focus Programmes & Opportunities Stronger Clubs School Volleyball Activity A vibrant range of programmes and opportunities supplement club activity and assist in attracting and retaining members. Develop beach pathways Establish a Seaside Community Sport Hub Develop sitting volleyball provision linked to clubs Ensuring clubs are well run, sustainable and provided with the right support is vital to the long-term success and growth of the sport. Stronger clubs pilot programme with templates of good practice covering administration, governance, recruitment and pathways National Club Development conference Develop links between clubs and local partners. Providing a high quality and enjoyable introduction to volleyball at school will lay the foundation for a life in the sport. This needs to be matched by good links to local clubs, to encourage on-going participation. It is developing the Scottish Volleyball Association as a robust and accountable sports governing body, that provides the required levels of leadership and support to its members, and partner organisations The Board of the SVA has been responsible for identifying and implementing the strategic developments that have ensured the continuing good governance of Scottish Volleyball The SVA membership said;..strong leadership and professional staff are the back bone of any Association Key Thread Area of focus Governance & Leadership Finance Activity Maintaining strong governance and leadership underpins and secures all work of Scottish Volleyball.
