4 Functions of the data acquisition system To capture production data within the shop floor on heterogeneous systems To make them usable by real- time (or not) systems Those data are related to : Information about production devices (equipments, including flows) Information on products and assemblies (work-orders, measures, component references) Information on operators (number, beginning and ending date) Information on stocks 4

5 Data acquisition process Through the connection of a computer to a process, it becomes possible to regularly collect data related to the activity of equipments : Heterogeneous equipments (PLC, PC, using various formats) Collecting frequency may be variable It is very important to time stamp all the events since : The events are not always consistent Nor in chronological order Equipments and sub-components can be different within the shop floor Time stamp differs from an equipment to another (no synchronisation) 5
