1 Folding table A do-it-yourself tip from UHU A folding table fits in even the smallest kitchen. Here, we ve integrated it in a shelving unit. The folding table can be brought out whenever it s needed. You can use it with square or semi-circular leaves. Step 1 Make all the straight cuts using a circular saw and a guide rail. Step 2 Use a circle gauge to mark out the quadrants of the table leaves on the glued wood cuts. TIP: You can easily make an auxiliary circle using a strip of plywood and a wire nail. Step 3 Securely fix the cuts to a work table. Use a jigsaw to cut out the quadrants. You should work without a pendulum stroke and ensure that the saw is vertical and fully in contact with the wooden panel at all times. Use the same process to make the support foot from a glued wood panel.

2 Step 4 Once you have sanded the wood for the first time using 180 grit sand paper, fit flat dowels to the unit parts of the small cabinet. You should also connect the support foot and the small middle panel. Mill the edges, apply wood glue to the flat dowels, insert and assemble the parts. Step 5 Use screw clamps to fix the cabinet parts until the glue has set. Step 6 Repeat the same process with the support foot and the middle board. If the clamps have no protective jaws, you must work with an extra protective layer. Step 7 Apply an undercoat using a single-component clear lacquer to all the wooden parts of the construction and once it has dried, finely sand the parts with 220 grit sand paper. Then screw on hinges with flaps. Use two hinges each to connect the quadrants to the support foot.

3 Step 8 Use two six centimetre wooden pegs with a glued-on wooden ball to lock the table into the closed position. Insert them through the side walls of the cabinet into the edges of the table (in the closed position) to keep the construction in position and prevent the table from swinging up. Step 9 Screw on a spring hinge to connect the cabinet to the folding table unit. Step 10 Use connecting struts to support the table leaves. To connect them, drill in threaded inserts with an internal thread of 6 mm. Step 11 When open, the table is supported by the support foot on a crossbar which is screwed to the bottom edge of the support foot and supports the construction by lying across the sides of the cabinet if required.

4 Step 12 You should then apply a final coat of varnish to all of the wooden parts.
