2 Play As you welcome children to the classroom, help them engage in play. Here are a few suggestions: BUBBLES: Popping, chasing, and counting BLOCKS: Build up and knock down BABY DOLLS: Rock, feed, sing BOOKS: Point to pictures, ask questions, use silly voices CARS/TRUCKS: Make roads with blocks, drive across the tables KITCHEN: Make dinner, wash dishes, sit and eat BALL: Bounce, roll, hide and find Use a variety of toys to interact with the children. Play on their level. Make it fun! 2

3 Music 1. Instruments 2. Toddler CD This month, we recommend: I Can See I Like To How-To: 1. As the children finish cleaning up the toys, one leader should stand with an instrument and encourage the children to come over for music. 2. Guide the children to gather around you. 3. Sing, dance and have fun! WORSHIP LEADER: I m so glad you re here because when we re here, we get to talk about God! I love talking about God! God cares for us so much. God cares for (point to children and name them by name). Yay! [Key Question] Who will take care of me? [Big Idea] God will take care of me. [Key Question] Who will take care of me? WORSHIP LEADER and CHILDREN: [Big Idea] God will take care of me. WORSHIP LEADER: God will always take care of us! Our Bible verse tells us that! He (point up) cares (hug yourself) for you (point out to friends). 1 Peter 5:7 (Open your hands like a book.) (Repeat the Bible Verse with the children a couple of times.) WORSHIP LEADER: Great job! Now let s sing and dance! (Sing: I Can See and I Like To ) 3

4 BIBLE STORY: HE CARES FOR YOU. 1 PETER 5:7 Bible Story After music, ask the children to sit around you. Based on the age and size of your group, you may choose which story option will work best from week to week. Feel free to use these three options and change them up throughout the SEPTEMBER. STORY SCRIPT and PROPS (Option 1) SEPTEMBER STORY OPTIONS: 1. Story script and props (see below) 2. Story Book (pictures/text in your bucket) 3. The Beginner s Bible pages Bible 2. Black Raven Activity Page (cut out and laminated) 3. Tape 4. One piece of bread 5. Blue piece of butcher paper (water) STORYTELLER: Hi boys and girls! Today we re going to hear a true story about a man named Elijah! I read about him in my Bible (hold up the Bible). Once, Elijah was traveling a long way. He was walking and walking and walking. (Make walking sounds by slapping your legs.) Elijah traveled a very, very long time. While Elijah was traveling, there was no rain. There wasn t any rain for a whole bunch of days and all the water everywhere dried up. There was no more water! That was bad, because Elijah was getting really thirsty. He needed some water to drink. But Elijah knew that God would take care of him. 4

5 BIBLE STORY: HE CARES FOR YOU. 1 PETER 5:7 So Elijah kept traveling, and God told him exactly where to go. Elijah kept walking and walking and walking. (Slap legs again.) He was still very thirsty. And then he got really hungry, too! Poor Elijah! He was SO hungry and SO thirsty! But Elijah knew that God would take care of him. And guess what God did? God took care of Elijah. God told him where he could go to find a small river where there was water. God gave Elijah what he needed water! (Kneel down and pretend to drink from the river by scooping water with your hands.) God told Elijah to stay right there and drink that water. And you know what else God did to take care of Elijah since he was so hungry? (Pick up the raven.) God sent a bird. It was a black bird called a raven. God sent the raven to bring Elijah food! (Tape the piece of bread on the raven s beak.) Look at my raven. What do you see? (Pull it close and take the bread off of it.) It s bread! Bread for Elijah. Who took care of Elijah? God did. Thank you raven! Thank you God! Everyone say Thank you God! Who will take care of you and [Key Question] Who will take care of me? CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: [Big Idea] God will take care of me. STORYTELLER: Let s practice that one more time. [Key Question] Who will take care of me? CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: [Big Idea] God will take care of me. STORYTELLER: That s right. Elijah had plenty of water to drink (motion to water), and plenty of bread to eat (motion to bread), all because God took care of him. And just like God took care of Elijah, he will take care of you. He will give you everything you need. Let s pray together and thank God for always taking care of us. Prayer: STORYTELLER: Dear God, thank you for taking care of me! I love you, Amen! 5

6 Craft GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF ME 1. God Will Take Care of Me Activity Page (one per child) 2. Blue tissue paper (cut into small squares) 3. Glue sticks How-To: 1. Give each child an activity page and read the big idea. 2. Spread the tissue paper out on the table. 3. Help the children glue the tissue paper onto the river. In our story today, we learned about how God took care of Elijah by giving him what he needed - water! God will take care of you too. This paper says, God will take care of me. Let s glue this water at the bottom of our paper to remind us that God will take care of you and God will take care of me. [Key Question] Who will take care of me? [Big Idea] God will take care of me. 6

7 FLY WITH ME Activity 1. Brown construction paper (cut into small squares) How-To: 1. Spread the construction paper squares ( bread ) all around the classroom. 2. Encourage the children to fly like a bird to pick up a piece of bread and bring it back to the small group leader. For older children: Have the children count the pieces of bread that they bring to you. Today we learned that God took care of Elijah by sending a bird to him with food! God cares for you too! You are going to pretend to be a bird and fly to pick up a piece of bread. When you bring it back to me together we will shout, God cares for me! [Key Question] Who will take care of me? [Big Idea] God will take care of me. 7
