1 Using the HTML/Text/WYSIWYG Editor When creating text (e.g., a Discussion, a News item, Descriptions) within Online Campus you are working with a What You See Is What You Get Editor (WYSIWYG). This program allows for the creation of content from on screen will look similar to content that has been created using a word processor or desktop publishing applications without the need to learn HTML coding. This can be used for both Instructors and Students. Files created in content using this editor will be saved as.html and can be displayed in any browser outside of the learning environment. HTML are normally more easily accessible to user who have screen readers or screen magnifiers. There is a Basic or Advance tab that will display different options a user may use when creating their item. Images, Links and videos can be added to any item as long as the WYSIWYG is used. 2 Formatting Icons The formatting icons used within the WYSIWYG editor are similar to Microsoft Word and many other productivity applications used for text processing. RECOMMENDED: If you are copying from Word, but the Word Paste option to ensure a clean copy of the content has been added to your course. Using the general Paste can cause extra code to be added to you content item that are not seen by the naked eye and may cause issues with assistive technologies. Cut Copy Paste Text Only Paste Word Paste Will remove the text but keep it in memory, normally used for MOVING text to another location Will key the text in memory but not remove it from the page Places the text saved in memory into the editor, normally used with cut or copy Places the text saved in memory into the editor but REMOVES ALL formatting Places the text from a word processor saved in memory into the editor and keeps most of the formatting Undo Redo Will remove the last formatting option or edit made to the item, will be grayed out if there is nothing to undo Will reapply the remove of the last Undo completed, will be grayed out if there is nothing to redo Bold Italic Underline Text (Fore) Color Used to emphasis, adds to the blackness of text, makes text darker than the surrounding text Used to emphasis, adds a slight slant to the text giving more of a handwritten feel Used to emphasis, adds a horizontal lines immediately bellow a section of text Will allow for a dropdown menu to display different colors that can be added to a text section Edited by C.L.Dell 24/7 Support Page 2

3 Left Align Center Align Right Align Justify Text is flush to the left of the page Text is aligned based on the center of a page and the center of the text section Text is flush to the right of the page Text is flush to both the left and right of the page adding extra spaces between words or letters, normally used in print media like news items. Unordered List Ordered List Remove Indent Indent Will display content as an indented list with dots to indicate a new list item, items in these list normally do not have a set order and can be done at different times or in place of another list item. Will display content as an indented list with numbers to indicate a new list item, items in these list normally do have a set order in the way list items are viewed or completed. Will move the selected text to the left of a page, if already flush to the left side of a page the icon will be grayed out Will move the text to the right, adding a space in front of the selected text, normally used to show starts of paragraphs Horizontal Line Sub-Script Super-Script Strike-through Also called a Horizontal Rule is used to draw a line across the page and can separate content. Is text (number, figure, symbol) that appears smaller then normal type and is set slightly below Is text (number, figure, symbol) that appears smaller then normal type and is set slightly above Also called strikeout, will place a horizontal line through the center of the selected text, normally used to show items that have been edited or completed DIRECTION L to R DIRECTION R to L Will switch the text the be written left to right (dependent on language used) Will switch the text the be written right to left (dependent on language used) Edited by C.L.Dell 24/7 Support Page 3

4 Styles Type Font Family Font Size The Format dropdown menu is used to select general formatting of text items. Here you will find the Headers that should be used in conjunction with sectioning of text and is a requirement to support users of assistive technologies The Font family dropdown menu is used to change the font type that is being used. Leaving the Font family, as default will allow users to be able to adjust the font while viewing content. Easier for user how need to Magnify pages. The Font size dropdown menu is used to change the font size that is being used. Leaving the Font size, as default will allow users to be able to adjust the font while viewing content. Insert Table Insert/Edit Attributes Will pop-up with a new window to create a table Will change the attributes of the page created Insert Image Insert Custom Characters Insert Equations Insert Math ML Equation Insert Math LaTeX Equation Will allow for an image to be added Will allow for a custom character (symbol) to be added, like copyright or registered Will allow access to the Equation Creation Form, this for does require Java to be installed and update on your computer Insert Stuff Insert Quicklink Will allow for the inserting and quicklinking (hyperlinking) of many different items from your computer, YouTube, Flickr, General links and Embed Code from other sites Will allow for the quicklinking (hyperlinking) of URLS and other course tools Edited by C.L.Dell 24/7 Support Page 4

5 Check Spelling Review Source Code (HTML) Preview Full Screen Adjust Window Will review the page for spelling mistakes Will open the HTML code pop-up to allow for reviewing and manual editing of HTML code created.
