2 Unit 4: Atomic Structure Unit 5: Periodic Law Unit 6: Chemical Names and Formulas SCI.CHEM Students will know shapes and abbreviations of the electron orbitals (s,p,d,f) SCI.CHEM Students will construct accurate electron configurations for elements and ions, using noble gas shorthand as appropriate. SCI.CHEM Students will understand the difference between electrons in a ground state and an excited state SCI.CHEM Student will state that observed colors both emitted and reflected correspond do wavelengths of electro-magnetic radiation SCI.CHEM Students will know elements on the periodic table are placed in groups and families based on their electron configuration SCI.CHEM Students will recognize that chemical properties repeat on the periodic table due to similarity of valence electron configurations SCI.CHEM Students will associate trends in ionization energy and electronegativity to an atoms electron configuration SCI.CHEM Students will predict relative reactivity of elements based on their location on the periodic table.
