1 Qualification Snapshot CIH Award in Governance in (QCF) Housing The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is an awarding organisation for national qualifications at levels 2, 3 and 4. CIH is the leading awarding organisation for housing qualifications and we are dedicated to providing the highest quality, relevant and up-to-date qualifications for everyone in housing. Equipping your housing professionals with key skills and expert knowledge, with an accredited qualification from CIH, will drive improvement and add value enabling your organisation to compete more effectively. The qualification is a vocationally related qualification for the housing sector, which is broadly equivalent / comparable in standard to an A-level or NVQ. The qualification is supported by Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Housing. The qualification reference number is 501/1181/4 Regulation start date: 01/09/2010 Qualification review date: 31/08/2015 THE QUALIFICATION AIMS TO enhance the skills of active residents to enable them to participate fully in the development, management and assessment of housing services for communities, prepare learners for further study and/or employment. THE QUALIFICATION IS SUITABLE FOR LEARNERS aged 19+, working or resident in the UK and Ireland, residents, tenants and frontline housing workers with a specific interest in community action, that already have a level 2 qualification and/or experience of being an active tenant or working in housing. 9/1/2013 CIH Awarding Organisation CIH 2013

2 Qualification Snapshot CIH Award in Governance in Housing (QCF) QUALIFICATION RULES OF COMBINATION Qualification title: The CIH Award in Governance in Housing (QCF) Credit value: 12 Minimum credit to be achieved at or above the level of the qualification: 12 Learners must achieve a minimum of 12 credits in order to be awarded the qualification. There are three mandatory units. The recommended guided learning hours for the qualification are 90. It may be delivered in more or fewer hours according to the centres approval to deliver the qualification. The qualification is graded on the basis of Pass / Refer / Fail only. The qualification is not eligible for an aegrotat award. Understand the standard setting and regulatory system for social housing in the UK. 1.1 Describe the role of government, and other organisations in setting standards and regulating social housing in the UK home countries. 1.2 Explain the powers and sanctions available to regulators, and how they are applied in practice. 2. Understand how residents can use information on Good Practice in housing management and maintenance to improve housing services. 3. Understand the regulators expectations for resident participation and equality and diversity. 2.1 Explain national and local sources of information on Good Practice in housing. 2.2 Explain how housing organisations have made use of Good Practice guidance to improve housing services. 3.1 Summarise the information that affordable housing organisations provide to residents and the regulators. 3.2 Evaluate the practice of a housing organisation against the regulators published standards. Additional Information about the unit Unit purpose and aims This unit will equip learners with the knowledge of the regulatory framework for housing, and how it applies to different housing organisations.
