2 2 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Introduction Facility Explorer Historian (FX-Historian) facilitates historical data storage in a SQL database. Through workstation applications, users have access to the populated historical databases formatted under Microsoft SQL Server This conversion tool allows a user to migrate data from the AspenTech based Historian product to the SQL Server 2000 based Facility Explorer database. FX-Historian installs the conversion program (AspenTech database to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database). This document describes how to: configure the AspenTech client access software convert the database

We recommend configuring the Facility Explorer Collector (FX-Collector) and collecting data before you run this conversion program. This procedure prevents the loss of any data during the Facility Explorer database conversion. Database Conversion Install the database conversion program on the Facility Explorer Database Server. The conversion program is found in a subdirectory on the Validated Environment or Total Energy Management installation CD. Install the AspenTech client software on the database server before you run this conversion program. (Refer to Installing AspenTech InfoPlus.21 Historian Technical Bulletin [LIT ].) Configure the AspenTech database Data Source Name (DSN) on your Personal Computer (PC).

4 4 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database Conversion The database conversion program converts the existing data from the AspenTech database and saves it to a SQL Server 2000 database. The program also runs audits on the original and converted data to verify proper conversion. The information collected from the audits is saved in an audit file.

5 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Detailed Procedures Configuring the AspenTech Client Access Software To configure the AspenTech database DSN: 1. Insert the Facility Explorer CD in the CD-ROM drive, and run the setup.exe file from the AspenTech Client directory. The Welcome window dialog box appears (Figure 1). Figure 1: Welcome Dialog Box 2. Click Next. The Software License Agreement dialog box appears (Figure 2).

7 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Click Next to accept the default location for the SQLplus files. The Select Program Folder dialog box appears (Figure 4). Note: If you do not accept the default location for the SQLplus files, click the Browse button to search for a location. Figure 4: Select Program Folder Dialog Box 5. Click Next to accept the default program folders. The Start Copying Files dialog box appears (Figure 5).

9 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Click Finish to close the Setup Complete dialog box. The SQLplus installation is complete. 8. From My Computer, select Control Panel > Administrative Tools. The Administrative Tools window appears (Figure 7). Figure 7: Administrative Tools Window 9. Double-click the Data Source (ODBC) programs icon in the Administrative Tools window. The ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box appears (Figure 8).

12 12 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Select the AspenTech SQLplus driver and click the Finish button. The SQLplus Setup dialog box appears (Figure 11). Delete the value in the Maximum Rows field and clear all of the check boxes. 15. Click OK. The SQLplus Setup dialog box appears (Figure 11). 16. Enter a DSN name in the Data Source Name field.

13 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Converting the Database 17. Enter the AspenTech Server s system name or Internet Protocol (IP) address in the TCP/IP Host field. Note: Do not change the default value (for example, 10014) in the TCP/IP Port field. 18. Click the Test button to verify connectivity to the AspenTech Server. A test results pop-up window appears. 19. Click OK to close the test results pop-up window. 20. Click OK to save the SQLplus Setup configuration. 21. Click OK to close the ODBC Data Source Administrator window. To convert the database: 1. From the Start menu, select Programs > Johnson Controls > SQL Historian > SQL DB Conversion. From the Select Existing Aspen Data Source Name drop-down list, select the DSN name for the source database from which you want to copy the data. 3. Enter the server name in the Destination Server field to which to copy the data, or press Tab to accept the default and move the cursor to the User ID field.

14 14 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Note: Leave the User ID and Password fields blank if you are logged into the Windows NT PC with an account that has administrative access to the Facility Explorer database. Otherwise, enter a SQL user name and password that has administrative access. 4. Click Next. A list of data points appears (Figure 14). Figure 14: Database Conversion Step 2 of 3 Dialog Box 5. Select the Non-existing Points radio button if you are adding data and points that do not already exist in the new database and then select a time zone from the Time Zones drop-down list. If you are converting missing data for points that exist in the new database, select the Existing Points radio button and continue with Step 6.

15 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Select the points in the Points in database column and click >> to move them to the right column. Note: Use the Ctrl or Shift key to select multiple points, or click Select All to select all of the points. 7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for each time zone you want to include. 8. Click Next. 16 16 Converting AspenTech to Microsoft SQL Server Verify that the displayed time zone information is correct for all of the points displayed in the list and click Finish to start the conversion process. A progress indicator appears. When the conversion is complete, the start and end processing times appear. Note: The conversion process could continue for several hours depending on the points you select. 10. Click Done. The database conversion program closes. 11. From the Start menu, select Programs > Facility Explorer Database Conversion > JCIConversion.Log or JCIException.log to review the log files for any errors or problems that might have occurred. The Audit Log (Figure 16) displays the number of detailed records converted for each point and the sum of their values.

Table 2: Audit Log Column Description Column POINTID COUNT VALUE SUM Description Used for internal information only. The number of data samples for the point before (OLD) and after (NEW) the conversion. The status of the data integrity before (OLD) and after (NEW) the conversion. If the old and new COUNT values are different, some data values for the point were not converted properly. If the old and new VALUE SUM values are different, the data integrity for the point converted might have been compromised (in other words, the data values for some of the samples from the converted point may not have the same values before they were converted).
