Bristol Rovers Community Trust (charity number ) is offering an exciting opportunity for young men aged between 16 and 18 to pursue a futsal and education scholarship with the football club; allowing you to study a Level 3 BTEC as well as playing futsal every day. why apply to study at rovers? THE COURSE This is a full time 2 year course starting in September You will study a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport. This is an accredited course from Swindon Academy and validated by Edexcel. Although you will study in Bristol, you will be a registered student of Swindon Academy and have access to all the benefits of being a full time student, such as an NUS card.

3 UNITS OF STUDY The Extended Diploma is made up of 19 units taken from a wide range of sporting areas such as Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, Assessing Risk in Sport, Talent Identification and Development in Sport and Sport as a Business. ASSESSMENTS BTECs are not exam based qualifications. You will study real life case studies and complete assessment tasks. Assessment tasks vary in nature and can be recorded in different ways such as presentations, observations, written work, videos and witness statements. YOUR WEEK Your 16 hour week comprises of 8 hours of education and 8 hours of futsal. This is an Internet platform-based course so in addition to your stadium-based study, you will be expected to access your work and study at home. FACILITIES The course is based at The Memorial Stadium in the state-of-the-art Study Centre, with the futsal training taking place at Golden Hill. The Study Centre is a non-traditional learning environment situated in the heart of the stadium, bright and airy and comes complete with laptops and a variety of digital equipment to aid learning in unique ways. Golden Hill Sports Ground is an astro turf facility complete with specialist futsal goals, changing rooms and showers and is less than a mile from the stadium.

4 entry requirements Available to young men who are: Completing their GCSEs this summer. Have 4 GCSEs at C grade or above or equivalent (eg. a Pass grade in a Level 2 BTEC.) Aged under 18 on 1 st September course benefits The Futsal & Education Scholarship is a revolutionary course offering many benefits; a few of which are listed below: The BTEC is equivalent to 3 A levels offering possible entry to universities in both the UK and USA. The course offers work experience and possible employment opportunities in the sport and leisure industry. You have the opportunity to undertake an FA Level 1 Award in Coaching Football qualification. Two graduates of the scholarship have been employed as Apprentice Community Coaches by Bristol Rovers Community Trust. You will be professionally trained by Bristol Rovers Community Trust coaches. You can continue to play for your football club at the weekend. You will become part of Bristol Rovers Football Club play for the club, study at The Memorial Stadium, wear Bristol Rovers kit on a matchday and train in Rovers kit, amongst other benefits. Another graduate is currently studying in

5 Georgia, USA on a four year scholarship and is on the roster of the men s soccer programme. As well as professional training there are also fortnightly fixtures against other Football League clubs in the Football League Trust Futsal League, with match reports and league tables on fltfutsal.co.uk. Futsal is recognised as the world s fastest-growing indoor sport and is the only form of indoor football officially recognised by FIFA. It is an exciting, fast-paced 5-a-side game that is played all over the world, with many top footballers crediting playing futsal in their youth with their development; players of the quality of Messi, Xavi, Fabregas and Ronaldo to name a few. Futsal is played on a hard surface pitch with hockey sized goals and a size 4 ball with a reduced bounce.

7 TRAVEL COSTS Getting yourself to and from the Memorial Stadium for your education will be your main cost. Travelling to fixtures and training will be our responsibility. how to apply STEP 1 ATTEND AN OPEN EVENING The first step is to attend an open evening. This will be your chance to visit the Memorial Stadium, see the facilities available to you and meet the Futsal & Education Scholarship staff. You will find out even more about this course and have the opportunity to ask any questions. STEP 2 APPLICATION FORM Complete an application form (included with this prospectus) and scan or post it to the address shown. STEP 3 TRAINING SESSION AND INTERVIEW You will be invited to an introduction to futsal training session and informal interview. Attending the training session is key to a place on the course being offered. STEP 4 OFFER You may be offered a place on the course, conditional to you meeting the entry requirements. STEP 5 ACCEPTANCE Should you wish to accept the offer of a place on the course, sign and return the contract that will accompany the offer letter. A letter detailing your kit and its cost must also be returned with your contract. STEP 6 RESULTS DAY GCSE results day is the first step for you starting as a futsal scholar here at Bristol Rovers providing you have achieved at least 4 GCSE C grades or equivalent.
