Please give the URL for the direct link to your proconw.co.uk College/sixth form setting Local Offer Name Date Hannah Smith 5 th November 2014 Accessibility and Inclusion ProCo is a non for profit organization formed in 2003 following a merger of vocation station (training arm of chamber) and metropolitan training (training arm of the council) and set up to support and offer training to individuals in the borough. The company has three sites, Prescott Street based in Wigan town centre, Central site and Montrose Skills Hub which is both located within Norley Hall housing estate. ProCo offers a wide range of training, including Young and Intermediate Apprenticeships, Advanced Apprenticeships, Study Programmes, Further Education, Work Programmes, SEN and Disability, school provision and bespoke training packages for both employed and unemployed 2

3 individuals. ProCo can adapt the curriculum and curriculum delivery to suit the needs of the individual s learner ensuring each learner reaches their potential. The Montrose site is fully accessible for wheelchair users, the building is one storey high, has disabled toilets and disabled showers/wet rooms. There is ample disabled parking on the campus. The central site is fully accessible on the ground floor with disabled toilets and ample disabled parking. The Prescott site is accessible on the majority of the ground floor and has ample disabled parking Teaching and Learning ProCo s tutors have experience working within their field/trade which means that curriculum delivery is realistic and meets the needs of the labour market. The skilled tutors closely linked the theory work to the practical work ensuring the theory work is at a pace, level and format suitable for each learner. ProCo has a dedicated and experienced SENCo who will complete a range of diagnostic assessment by one of our suitably-qualified specialists may include a range of assessments to investigate what your additional needs are such as dyslexia, dyscalculia etc. Learning Support Assistant (LSAs) can provide support in and outside of the classroom. An LSA can help with note taking, organisational skills, reinforcing the class tutor s instruction, adapting materials assisting with mobility issues and personal care needs. Specialist equipment and software is available and can be loaned to learners where necessary. ProCo are interested in supported internships and feel with the skill set and proven track record of working with learners with SEN and disabilities ProCo is well suited to delivering this model successfully. ProCo will also deliver travel training. Learners with LLDD can access ProCo s study programme or alternatively, ProCo has developed a course specifically for learners with additional needs. The Pathway to Independence is a course of Post-16 continuing education that is designed to prepare young people with additional needs for the next stage of their life. The Pathway to Independence places an emphasis on the development of learners personal and social independence skills whilst providing access to vocational training and continues to develop literacy and numeracy skills. The Pathway also acts as a bridging course for learners who have additional needs to gain the skills to move onto a higher level vocational study programme. The qualifications that learners will gain from the Pathway to Independence are: ASDAN AoPE / CoPE Level 1/2 Vocational Entry Level 3 / Level 1 Animal Care or Basic Construction Skills Functional Skills English Entry Level 2 Level 2 Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 2 Level 2 BTEC Home Cooking Skills Entry Level 3 Level 1 We believe it s important for all learners to aim for academic achievement, regardless of any learning or behavioural difficulties they may have. We encourage learners to take responsibility for their own learning and, with staff support; they help to set their own goals and targets. We monitor and revise targets so learners can recognise the progress they have made and take on greater challenges. We don t just want learners to do well in the classroom. We want them to start exploring their own interests and developing passions that they take with them in the future. That s why we offer a flexible range of qualifications, taught either as part of their accredited programme or as an additional activity. They are currently accredited by ASDAN and Skills for Working Life and can be taken as awards, certificates or diplomas, depending on the abilities of each learner. 3

4 ProCo has three well equipped sites in Wigan, sharing facilities with both Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic, the Urban farm and fully functioning corporate training kitchen. Central Park gym, Wigan Warriors recording studio and Central Park Hair and Beauty salon allows ProCo to offer a wide range of programmes and enrichment. Functional skills - Learner s quality of life is significantly improved by developing functional skills which support their educational progress. Learners, if they have capacity are able to express themselves more confidently, solve problems, make choices and engage with their environments. Life skills learners will develop important practical independent living skills that help them to achieve their long term goals. This includes personal and social development, relationships, employability, travel training skills, cooking and preparing their own snacks and meals and self-sufficiency. Physical activity learners will be able to access the fully equipped gym with weights and all the latest circuit training equipment and the sports halls can be used to enjoy group sport activities. The right support - Our experienced and motivated staff team will work closely with each learner to support their progress to reach their potential with an emphasis on developing confidence, communication and advocacy skills and building mobility, personal care and life skills. Before they start - we meet each learner, their parents and any other services involved to assess their needs then provide a specific, tailored induction programme. Work experience /supported internships- will be available to all learners, and it s tailored to individual needs and aspirations. There are fantastic opportunities within ProCo and our great links with local businesses which ensures we are able to secure work experience within real businesses Progress monitoring and review All learners irrelevant of SEN or disabilities have a pre enrolment meeting. ProCo strives to work in partnerships with stakeholders and has positive working relationships with providers and schools/colleges to ensure the transition is effective. Parents, guardians, advocates and support staff are encouraged to visit ProCo with the learner s consent, prior to enrolment and for regular reviews to ensure the person- centred approach is effective for the learner. Regular review meetings take place to record the journey travelled so far and to record progress, areas of improvement and highlight any additional needs or areas of concern. The reports are live working documents and not merely a paper exercise. All learners enjoy tasters sessions to allow them to gasp a hands on experience of the course, this also allows them to interact with the tutors, familiarise themselves with the campus and offer reassurance to the learner about any anxieties they may have. 4

5 Safeguarding ProCo has a designated safeguarding officer, who attends regular safeguarding and prevent training. There are two deputy Safeguarding officers. The DSO reinforces the safeguarding culture, company wide to make sure learners are safe and secure at all times and know how to keep themselves and others safe in different situations and settings. ProCo have robust individual risk assessments are completed in partnership with stakeholders and the learner if deemed necessary. ProCo have comprehensive policy and procedures and the staff team have a working knowledge of the procedure. All staff have attended safeguarding and prevent training. All learners undertake a comprehensive induction which includes, safeguarding including internet dangers, health and safety, code of conduct, break times, tour of the site, fire evacuation procedures etc. Travel arrangements for learners are clarified prior to enrolment and are recorded within the learners file, to identify if they are independent travellers or if a parent or guardian provides transport. ProCo will also deliver travel training. Health (including Emotional Health and Wellbeing) ProCo has a designated health and safety officer. ProCo have comprehensive policies and procedures and the staff team have a clear understanding of their responsibility in relation to health and safety. ProCo has a bank of first aiders on each campus. Emergencies are dealt with following a clear protocol which is reviewed annually or earlier if required. ProCo has a pastoral and learner liaison team that offer support and guidance to learners on a regular basis. ProCo has a comprehensive training programme which encompasses a wrap around support system for learners. Currently no staff members have medication training. Communication ProCo offers an open door policy, in relation to the staff team, parents/guardians, learners and stakeholders. Learners can access the pastoral care team at any time and regular reviews are completed in partnership with the learners. The reviews are shared with stakeholders with prior agreement. Working together Partnership working underpins ProCo work practice. ProCo liaises with families and stakeholders on a regular basis. Parents/guardians and stakeholders are welcome at ProCo. If requested by 5

6 parents a copy of the progress reports and review reports can be shared with them. Third parties are invited to review meetings if deemed necessary and agreed by the learner. ProCo also have a number of open evenings allowing families and stakeholders to visit the campuses. Help and support available The SENCo is qualified and experienced to offer accredited assessments. The SENCo will complete a comprehensive assessment of each individual learner. The assessments are used to: to identify learning difficulties and where appropriate refer to external agencies / LA to assess for SpLD (dyslexia, dyspraxia) to provide evidence for examination access arrangements where appropriate to identify learner support needs to prompt an Education Health Care Assessment/Review/Plan (ECHP) ProCo has a Learner Services Team which consisting of: Behavior Support Officer, IAG Officer, Work Experience Co-ordinater, and Reviewing Officers. The Learning Support Assistant (LSAs) sit within the Learner Services Team. Learner Services aim to support learners in their studies and assist them in overcoming obstacles to success, achievement and progression.. Transition to and from College ProCo s positive working relationships with schools and colleges ensures the transition is well planned and is an effective process for learners. All relevant paperwork is completed to ensure tutors and the pastoral team has a clear overview of the learners prior to enrolment. Pre enrolment taster sessions/days are a pre requisite for all learners to enjoy tasters sessions to allow them to gasp a hands on experience of the course, this also allows them to interact with the tutors, familiarise themselves with the campus and offer reassurance to the learner about any anxieties they may have. Enrichment/Additionally ProCo offers a variety of enrichment activities such as ten pin bowling, end of term quizzes, Christmas lunch, pampering sessions, cinema tickets (linked to attendance) and sport sessions. 6
