2 Kindergarten Term 3, Kindergarten, Term 3, Week 1 Resource List: cardboard, markers, empty container coloured paper, glue, scissors, chalk, paper cups, fruit and vegies (including apples), toothpicks Books for Week 1: I will Never, Not Ever, Eat a Tomato by Lauren Child Edward The Emu by Sheena Knowles The Learning Folder: Each subject has specific work samples scattered throughout the term. They have been carefully designed to showcase your child s learning experiences. These work samples will be essential when moving through the homeschool registration process. They will demonstrate not only what your child has accomplished, but also highlight the areas of the curriculum that have been met. Each work sample is backed up by the specific content descriptors in the Australian curriculum. This is designed to give you, the parent complete peace of mind, knowing that your child is learning all that the curriculum has required. An A3 folder with plastic sleeve inserts is a great way to display precious work of various sizes. You could also use a scrap- book but the work is not so protected. This folder is designed to keep your child s precious work for the year. They will have this folder to look back on and recall the various learning experiences they have enjoyed. Take photos of them as they imagine, design and create pieces of work and include these with the work samples. Each year start a new learning folder. In the future your child will have the thrill of looking back through each years learning folder and see clearly what they have accomplished. Complete Education 2015.
3 Kindergarten Term 3, English Term 3: Week 1: Parents: Have your child work through their sight words and sound of the week, everyday. The sight word activity is always first in the week to help them get used to their new words. Print out the sight word list and cut them out to use as flash cards. You will Need: Cardboard, markers, empty container Coloured paper, glue, scissors Book: Edward The Emu by Sheena Knowles Activities: *Lesson 1: Word Work: List 7 down not them be like because home some into would - Sight Word Bang. Parent Instruction: Write the sight words onto flash cards and put them into an empty container. Write out a few cards with BANG written on them and include them in the container (they should be the same size and paper as the sight words). Complete Education 2015.
4 Kindergarten Term 3, HOW TO PLAY: 1. Players take turns reaching into the container and pulling out a flashcard. If they can read the word aloud correctly, they get to keep the card. If the player is incorrect, the card goes back into the container. 2. Continue taking turns, reading and collecting correctly answered cards. 3. If you pull out a BANG! card, you must put your whole pile of cards back into the container! (It's a great way to keep the game exciting and level the playing field. Even if Mum or an older sibling could correctly read all the words, all they have to do is pull out a bang card and they're back down to zero.) 4. 5 Kindergarten Term 3, You can choose which v you would like to make for your alphabet book. Have your parent draw a v on colored paper. You cut it out and create either a vase or volcano. Glue it into your alphabet book. On the opposite page, with coloured markers, write as many words that start with v, as you can think of. *Lesson 5: Text lesson: Edward The Emu by Sheena Knowles Vocabulary: There are some interesting words that may be new to you. grand, gumption, clambered, basked, reside. Ask your parent to show you how to use an online dictionary or a traditional dictionary to find out what these words mean. Take another look at the book. Where does the author use exclamation marks? Why does she use them where she does? (She builds excitement towards the end.) What words are repeated in this book? Why do you think the author repeats these lines? Which animal would you like to be and why? Write a response to Edward the emu on the boarder supplied. Complete Education 2015.

11 Kindergarten Term 3, 2015 Mathematics Term 3: Week 1: You will need: Chalk, paper cups, marker, cardboard Activities: *Lesson 1: Stream: Number, Patterns and Algebra, Topic: Number 1, Lesson: numbers up to 20 *Lesson 2: Parents instructions: Draw a number line on the path outside. Put on the numbers 1 to 20. Student s instructions: Practice walking along the line counting the numbers. When you are confident, try closing your eyes at times and guessing what the next number or two may be. Complete Education Australia, 2015
12 Kindergarten Term 3, 2015 *Lesson 3: WORK SAMPLE Parent Instruction: Write the numbers 1 to 20 onto paper cups. Trace around the cups onto a piece of cardboard. Make sure the numbers are in rows so the child can learn the order of the numbers. Write the numbers 1 to 20 into the circles on the cardboard. Student instructions: Organize the cups onto the right numbers. Count them as you go. When you are very fast at putting them in order, time yourself and see if you can beat your time. Have your parent take a video of you completing this activity. Take a photo of the activity being done. Place the memory stick and photo into a plastic sleeve and put it in your learning folder.
