3 1 Overview The 3400 Security Intercom System is a feature rich intercom system designed for large-scale applications requiring reliable communications. This completely digital system allows for dependable operation with failure notifications and self-healing features. The 3400 Security Intercom System also offers unmatched scaling potential with a capacity for up to 2048 stations and 16 gateways. This User Guide provides the required information to install and configure a complete 3400 system. 1.1 Hardware Components The 3400 is comprised of modular hardware components allowing user specific configurations. Every 3400 card is hot swappable and automatically detected by the system. Each hardware component is described below Gateway Card The 3406 Gateway Card interfaces with a single analog telephone or an analog trunk port on a phone system. The 3406 generates ring tone, caller id, and a unique dial tone as to not be confused with a standard connected telephone. The 3406 has a single mechanical relay with software configurable operation Dual Station Line Card The 3401 Station Line Card is the interface for the 3201 Digital Door Station. Each 3401 can support two 3201 Stations. The Line Card has two mechanical relays, one for each Door Station. The operation of these relays is configurable by software Control Card One 3411 Control Card is required for each 3410 Shelf. The 3411 controls and configures all cards in the shelf. It also controls communications between shelves and monitors system health. The 3411 has one configurable relay for signalling system faults Digital Door Station The 3201 Digital Door Station is a 2 way half-duplex digital intercom with intelligent voice switching. Its robust housing is ideal for harsh environments. The 3201 features a backlit push button and a switch input port with configurable operation Shelf The 3410 Shelf can support up to 16 Station or Gateway cards and a single Control Card. The 3400 shelf is a standard 3U 19 wide shelf for rack mount. The system is capable of up to 64 shelves, each shelf capable of handling up to 32 Digital Stations and up to 8 Gateways (one gateway takes the place of two stations). 1.2 Software Components The 3400 Software allows for easy configuration of the 3400 system. Configuration, system events and diagnostics are available through easy to follow interfaces. Once configured, the 3400 system does not require the software to operate. The PC interface to the system is via a serial port on the 3410 Shelf. DC3400UG-02 Feb. 15,
4 2 Hardware Installation Each shelf consists of the 3410 Shelf and a 3411 Control Card. The right most slot is keyed to accept only the 3411 Control Card. The other 16 slots can accommodate either a 3401 Dual Station Linecard or a 3406 Gateway Card. 2.1 Power Plug the supplied 24V, 3.3A power supply into J26 of the 3410 Shelf, see Figure PC Connection Connect J25 on the master shelf to a free serial port on the PC with the supplied serial cable. 11 3.3 Trunk Port Gateway Settings Audio Levels Allows setting of the Gateway transmit and receive audio levels in real time. Adjustments can be made during a call in order to configure the system for best audio switching performance. The audio gain setting ranges from 0 to 15 and represents 2dB steps in gain. The default gain setting for the Gateway is 11 transmit and 3 for receive. Figure 6: Trunk Port Gateway Settings Adjustment Procedure The default audio levels between the Digital Station and telephone may be sufficient. Higher quality audio levels and switching may be achieved by adjusting the transmit and receive gains on the Gateway. Establish a call with a Station and perform a count test with someone at the other end. One person counts odd numbers while the other replies with the even numbers. The count test verifies correct audio path switching between transmit and receive for the half-duplex Gateway card. If individual stations require unique gain settings due to their environment their gain can be set in the Station Settings Window, see Section 3.4. DC3400UG-02 Feb. 15,
12 CLID Start Caller ID is sent by the Gateway to the connected telephone. CLID start indicates the time, in milliseconds, after the first ring when caller ID will be sent. The caller ID start time will automatically adjust when the ring cadence is changed to meet GR-30-CORE caller ID specifications. Max Rings Indicates number of times the gateway will ring before terminating the call attempt. Mode The 3406 Gateway Card has three modes of operation, refer to Table 3. Table 3: Gateway Modes Mode Operation Normal Normal operation allows calls to the telephone from stations and calls from the telephone to stations Auto Page All Auto Page All allows automatic paging to all stations in the system when the telephone goes off-hook. When in this mode the phone will not receive calls from any stations in the system. Do Not Disturb Do not disturb will remove the connected phone from the call pool. The phone will not receive calls from any stations in the system. Ring Cadence The ring cadence of the phone is configurable by clicking on the blue bars. Each click will toggle the halfsecond period of ring on or off. Gateway Name and File Comment The Gateway name is for clarity when viewing activity in the monitor window. Both Gateway name and file comment will be stored in the configuration file. 3.4 Intercom Station Settings Preferred Gateway Preferred Gateway settings only apply to systems with more than one Gateway. A Digital Station can be configured to operate in one of three modes. The first mode is Any in which case any available Gateway will be connected when the call button is pressed. The second mode is Load Sharing in which case the station will be connected to a different Gateway for each call. The third mode is specify in which case a preferred Gateway must be selected by entering the preferred Gateway s shelf number and address. If the preferred Gateway is not available then the alternate Gateway will be connected next. Alternate Gateway Alternate Gateway settings only apply to systems with more than one telephone. If a preferred Gateway is not available then the system will attempt to connect the alternate Gateway. Page Zone Digital Stations can be grouped into page zones. The system is capable of up to 99 page zones. To page a zone pick up a phone connected to a Gateway on any shelf and dial * * followed by the two digit page zone (i.e. to page zone 1 dial * * 0 1 ). Threshold Communication with the 3201 Digital Station is resistant to substantial amounts of electrical interference. If the error threshold is exceeded an alarm is sent to the Monitor window. The threshold can be adjusted to prevent false alarm messages. The default threshold is 15 and can range from 0 to 255. DC3400UG-02 Feb. 15,
13 Enable Messages Enable messages allows the user to configure which messages are displayed in the Monitor window for Station activity. Figure 7: Intercom Settings External Switch Actions The external switch input on the 3201 Digital Station can be configured for a normally closed or normally open type switch contact. When the switch contact is activated the system can be configured to connect the call immediately or provide a delayed reaction. Call Button Actions A Station can be deactivated by un-checking Call if Button Pressed. The relay outputs on the backplane can be configured to close during a button press when Relay On While Button Pressed is selected. General A Station can be configured to re-call if a call is not answered if Re-call if No Answer is selected. DC3400UG-02 Feb. 15,
