1 Catholic Schools Week 2015 January CATHOLIC SCHOOLS: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service Sunday, January 25 Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service in our Parishes We will kick off the week by celebrating Mass in our three parishes: St. Aloysius, Our Lady s, and St. Francis. Our students will serve as lectors, gift bearers, and altar servers. A backboard of pictures of school activities will be on display at each parish. FAW students will read essays at each of the Sunday Masses in the parishes. All FAW students are encouraged to wear their uniforms to Mass this weekend. Monday, January 26 Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service in our Community We will celebrate our community with a special morning prayers. We will invite community members and dignitaries to prayers. A proclamation for our school will be presented. Students will make thank you cards for community workplaces and prayer cards/encouragement cards for vocations to go with goodie baskets. Buddy classes- Pre-K and 5 (post office), K and 4 (police department), 1 and 7 (fire department), 2 and 6 (rescue squad), 3 and 8 (government building/courthouse) Tuesday, January 27 Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service in our Future We will celebrate Career Day today from 9:00-11:30. Classes will travel from speaker to speaker for 15 minute blocks to listen to presentations. Wednesday, January 28 Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service in our Students We will celebrate our students with special treats today. Students in grades pre-k through 5 will have pajama day and BINGO in the afternoon. Students in grades 6-8 will have a tag day and enjoy a bowling field trip. It will also be a no homework night. Math Night is tonight from 6:00-8:00. Thursday, January 29 Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service in Vocations We will celebrate vocations today with special talks from priests, sisters, and our younger alumni who have chosen the religious life as their vocation. Friday, January 30 Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service in our Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers We will celebrate our bus drivers by having goodie bags and cards ready for them. We will celebrate our teachers and staff with a special luncheon. Teachers will also be switching classes for one period during the school day. Open House is scheduled from 9:30-11:00. Saturday, January 31 Italian Dinner and Brown Bag Auction hosted by the Home and School Association **See back on this page for service project donations list**

2 January 13, 2015 Dear Parents, This year as our school wide service project for Catholic Schools Week, we are going to be making Valentine care packages for workers and volunteers in our local community and for sisters and seminarians in our diocese. Buddy classes will be working together to make Valentine cards/crafts for the care packages. We are asking for donations from buddy classes and the list of items assigned to buddy classes is as follows. Buddy Classes Pre-K/5 th Grade Valentine candy Buddy Classes Kindergarten/4 th Grade healthy snacks such as granola bars, energy bars, etc. (again, individually packaged would be best.) Buddy Classes 1 st Grade/7 th Grade packaged cookies or bags of chips (individually packaged would be best.) Buddy Classes 3 rd Grade/8 th Grade monetary donations ($1, $5, etc.) for the purchase of Scrip cards (Starbucks, Wendy s, McDonald s, etc.) Buddy Classes 2 nd Grade/6 th Grade gum, water flavored packets, K cups If you would like to donate, please send the items in by Friday, January 23, Thank you for your support and we look forward to being able to send these care packages to some well-deserving people.

3 January 13, 2015 Dear Parents, As part of our Catholic Schools Week celebration at the end of the month, we are planning a Career Day on Tuesday, January 27 th. We will hold two sessions in which speakers discuss their career field with the students for 15 minute blocks. Groups of students will rotate and each speaker will be asked to give the same presentation to four different groups. The first session will be from 9:00-10:00 and the second session will be from 10:30-11:30. We are looking for people excited to share their careers with our students. If you or anyone you know would like to be speaker on Career Day, please fill out the information at the bottom of this sheet and return it no later than next Tuesday, January 20 th as final arrangements need to be made.
