3 A PROUD HISTORY The Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days is an agricultural expo located in the Central Wheatbelt of Western Australia. The event has continually expanded over the past 51 years to become the largest and most successful event of its kind in the state. With a strong reputation, which is widely recognised throughout Australia, the Dowerin Field Days are classed as being among the three largest agricultural machinery events in the country. The small Wheatbelt community swells from a population of a few hundred to over 24,000 throughout the two days in August. The number of exhibitors continues to grow each year and reached a historic 700 in Exhibitors and visitors travel from all over the state, country and increasingly overseas. The Field Days provide businesses, offering a wide range of products and services, with an opportunity to showcase their capabilities and promote their brand to a targeted audience. Exhibitors range from manufacturers and distributors of farm machinery and allied equipment, rural services, information technology to lifestyle and leisure products and services. The Dowerin Field Days are a valuable shop window to the farming community. The outstanding efforts from members of the community in contributing time, energy and expertise, ensures visitors and exhibitors enjoy the benefit of a well organised and professional managed event. As a not-for-profit community owned and operated event, income generated is injected back into Dowerin and surrounding towns, contributing to the success and survival of the region. The event is symbolic of rural communities helping themselves.

5 INTRODUCTION We are pleased to present the opportunity for a partnership with the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days. 7 WHY THE DOWERIN FIELD DAYS? The Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days is the largest and most widely recognised agricultural event in Western Australia. The Committee has built a strong reputation over its 50 year history, with the brand recognised throughout Australia and increasingly overseas, across rural, regional and metropolitan areas. The Dowerin Field Days directly targets attendees from agricultural regions, attracting over 24,000 visitors each year. Recent studies have shown that over 70% of all attendees come from rural and regional areas and most own or run an agricultural related business. Around 7000 broad acre farmers attend the event each year and over half of all visitors stated their reason for attending was a strong interest in agricultural products and services. But in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of the Dowerin community in establishing and maintaining the unique event, the Committee has also involved themselves in promoting the event beyond the agricultural context, to acknowledge it importance to regional tourism. As a result the Field Days has won several tourism awards at a state and national level. After taking out the WA award for Significant Local Festivals and Special Events in 1995, the event went on to win the National award in the same category and then proceeded to be the winner of the category again in 1996 and In 1998 the Dowerin Field Days was inducted into the Sir David Brand Tourism Awards Hall of Fame. The Field Days has an extensive marketing campaign, across many marketing mediums, designed to target rural communities and agricultural businesses. The campaign offers maximum exposure of its corporate partnerships in order to align their company with the success of the Dowerin Field Days brand. Traditional methods of marketing include Television, Radio and Print, with new methods of Social Media becoming an increasingly important part of the advertising plan. By aligning your brand with the Field Days, your business is showing strong support of rural communities. The Dowerin Field Days is a not-for-profit organisation, with all income generated going directly into the local region. Through the fundraising efforts of our volunteers for their nominated clubs and organisations, as well as significant funding offered through our funding Committee, Dowerin and the wider community benefit greatly from the event.

9 MEDIA CAMPAIGN Radio Radio West Radio West advertise the event extensively across their FM and AM stations, with a Corporate Sponsorship arrangement with the network ensuring maximum exposure through standard advertising and interviews. Corporate partners are regularly acknowledged in interviews and offered the opportunity to participate in interviews throughout the year. Principal and Major Partners are recognised on all advertisements. The stations covering the Field Days campaign include: 6SE Esperance 6WB Katanning 6MD Merredin 6NA Narrogin 6AM Northam Hot FM Interviews are conducted on breakfast shows and the Rural Focus Network throughout the year, with a special on-site broadcast conducted throughout the event. 98FIVE Sonshine FM Sonshine FM is a Perth-based community station that prides itself on being a family focussed radio alternative to commercial stations. As a community broadcaster, the station can play no more than 5 minutes of advertisements per hour, giving the Dowerin Field Days maximum exposure. This campaign is designed to target metropolitan families, by offering a raw country experience, with the view of educating our city counterparts about agriculture.

11 MEDIA CAMPAIGN Print The Dowerin Field Days is widely promoted throughout a wide range of publications, with the print campaign valued at over $150,000 each year. Some of the publications include: Countryman The Sunday Times The West Australian The Avon Valley Advocate Community Newspapers Kondinin Group Farm Weekly Have A Go News The Parents Paper AFDJ Many of these publications prepare special editions, previews and reviews for the event, providing additional exposure for the Field Days, its partners and exhibitors. Countryman prepare the official program and prospectus each year, which includes recognition for all sponsors. Principal and Major partners are acknowledged in special articles in addition to all print adverts.

13 MEDIA CAMPAIGN Television As the Principal Partner of this event, GWN7 conduct an ongoing and comprehensive state-wide advertising campaign throughout the year. Advertisements and promotional segments are also developed from time to time, in partnerships with both sponsors and exhibitors. The television campaign is valued at over $250,000 and now includes an online component. Major partners receive acknowledgement on television advertisements where possible. Additional Marketing Mediums The Dowerin Field Days has a growing online presence, which allows for an even greater acknowledgment of corporate partners. Farmmachinerysales.com.au are a major partner, providing over $45,000 worth of online advertising across multiple site including farmmachinerysales.com.au, farmhub.com.au and carsales.com.au. The Field Days is advertised on multiple agricultural websites including Farming Ahead. And of course uses its own website, dowerinfielddays.com.au, to heavily promote the event and its partners. Social media is an increasingly important marketing medium and a valuable tool for recognising the contribution of our partners. The Dowerin Field Days Facebook page has in excess of 3000 likes, which is growing rapidly. Other social media avenues are being investigated. Paid advertising is also part of the marketing plan, as it is useful in target specific groups online. In addition to online advertising and social media, the Dowerin Field Days uses signage on-site and around the township of Dowerin to effectively promote the event and its partnerships, which is particularly effective throughout the event.

15 EXHIBITION In addition to recognition through more traditional marketing mediums, corporate partners are offered the opportunity to exhibit at the Dowerin Field Days as part of their sponsorship agreement. Exhibiting at live events is one of the most effective marketing mediums. Studies have shown it offers the greatest return on investment, placing it ahead of advertising, direct marketing, public relations, sales, promotions and internet advertising.
