Contents Principal s Report School Information Photos School Calendar Nelson Mandela PRINCIPAL S REPORT Term 2 has certainly started in a rush of activity. It is lovely to see the students back after the holidays. We have held a moving ANZAC Service yesterday, been making Mother s Day cards and gifts and are practicing for our Cross Country Time Trials this Friday. In the next few weeks we have excursions, Stewart House Day, Cross Country at Euston, and NAPLAN Assessments for Years 3 & 5. WOW never a dull moment at school! POMONA ANZAC SERVICE On Tuesday 3rd May the Year 5/6 students hosted our ANZAC Service at school. Once again we were lucky to have the 3-11 Army Cadet Unit from Mildura and Lieutenant Russell James to support our service. Six cadets formed the catafalque party to carry in the flag and raise it to half mast. We were thrilled to see our past pupils Jessica Wisneske and Jasmine Robertson in their cadet uniforms and looking so official. The Year 5/6 students also were busy preparing lunch for our special visitors. Each class made a wreath or poppy to place under the flag on the rosemary bush as a tribute to the soldiers who fought to keep us safe. Thank you to Lieutenant Russell James, the 3-11 ACU and Bec James who organised the music..

2 STUDENTS OF THE WEEK Week 1 Mia Lyall Lily King READING AWARDS Well done to the following students who achieved reading awards:- 25 Nights Reading Pippa Heeps, Brock Lyall, Brandon Kerridge, Mia Lyall 50 Nights Reading- 75 Nights Reading Kelsey Barbuto 100 Nights Reading Allan Crombie MOTHERS DAY RAFFLE Year 5 students are selling raffle tickets during recess and lunch times to raise funds for the Year 6 Farewell Dinner. There are 7 wonderful prizes to be won in the Mother s Day raffle and tickets will be selling for 20cents each. The raffle will be drawn on Friday, 6th May at 2:50pm in time for Mother s Day on Sunday, 8th May. Good Luck to every one! SCHOOL UNIFORMS Please make sure your child has a school jumper or jacket in their bag each morning if they are not wearing one when they leave home. When leaving warm homes without a jacket/jumper the days can turn cold throughout the day. PLEASE make sure your child/ children s clothing is clearly marked with their name. This save a lot of upset when an item gets lost. BIGGEST MORNING TEA Pomona Public School will be hosting a Biggest Morning Tea on THURSDAY, 26th MAY at 11:00am at the school. This is to raise money for Cancer which effects us all at some stage in our lives. Student s will be cooking and serving the morning tea. Everyone is most welcome to attend for a donation. CROSS COUNTRY Pomona P.S. students will be taking part in a Cross Country Trial this Friday, 6th May around Pomona. The actual Cross Country will be held in Euston on Friday, 20th May.

3 EXCURSIONS The students in the K-2 class will be attending HIPPO HIPPO at the Mildura Arts Centre on Tuesday, 17th May. They will also attend some other exciting venues on that day. A permission note will be sent home shortly with details. The Year 5/6 Students will be taking part in the GRIP Leadership Conference in Mildura on Tuesday 24th May. A note will be sent home shortly. HAPPY BIRTHDAY A BIG Happy Birthday to all our students celebrating their Birthdays in May. Brandon Kerridge and Vincent James 13th, Heath Hall 19th and Kelsey Barbuto 24th who also shares her Birthday with Sheryl 24th our wonderful school cleaner. P &C MEETING The next P & C Meeting will be held on THURSDAY, 26TH MAY in the senior classroom beginning at 3:15pm. All welcome. HOT LUNCHES Hot Lunches will commence this Friday, 6th May. Price list, lunch order bags and a parent roster went home in the last newsletter of Term 1. If you cannot attend your rostered day, PLEASE, don t just not turn up, contact another parent to see if you can swap with them. WIMMERA HEARING VAN Sue Ward from Wimmera Hearing Society Inc. is coming to Pomona Public School on Wednesday 18 th May at 8.30am to test all of the students ears and hearing. Sue will bring the Wimmera Hearing Bus in which the students will have their ears checked by Sue and her team of helpers. Results will be given to the school. Please make sure your child goes to school on this day. If you do not wish your child to have their ears checked please contact their teacher. so it is important to have your child s ears checked. SCHOOL CALENDAR Attached to this newsletter is a SCHOOL CALENDAR of the Term 2 activities. These dates and times can change so please keep checking the back of the newsletter for any changes., and note them on your calendar. A good place to keep your calendar would be the fridge.

5 WENTWORTH DISTRICT JUNIOR FOOTBALL & NETBALL CLUB Registration Night Registration for the 2015 season will be held at the th Dareton oval on Friday 20 March from 6:30pm. Please join us for a sausage sizzle to meet the coaches and register for your team. 6 STAFF NEWS Mrs Marie Patullo will be taking leave for much of Term 2 and 3. We would like to wish her all the best for her time off and will be sure to miss her greatly and the extra things that she does. During this time Mrs Kate Witte will be working Monday to Wednesday as our SAM. We are also welcoming Mrs Samantha Wall who will be working one day a fortnight in the office during this time. NAPLAN ASSESSMENTS Nationwide NAPLAN assessments will be held for all Year 3 & 5 students next week. It is important that all students do their best and attempt these assessments as the information is used by the school in planning for teaching and also by the department in allocating learning support time. Please make sure that students have a good night s sleep before the assessments on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. YEAR 6 COOMEALLA HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION VISITS This Year Coomealla High School are hosting the Year 6 students from all the local schools in a transition program called Kids in the Bush. Kelsey and Kayla will have the opportunity to join other Year 6 students there three days this week. STEWART HOUSE DAY Due to busy calendar of activities we have had to move our Stewart House Day to Friday 13th May. This year we have High Bounce Balls for sale for $3.00 and Key Ring Torches for $2.00 with all proceeds going to Stewart House. On Friday we will use the high bounce balls in a range of tabloid activities. Students may also wear casual clothes for a gold coin donation. A Donation Envelope has been attached to this Newsletter for you to make a Gold Coin Donation and be in the running to WIN a $4000 holiday. Please return these envelopes to school. We have received a phone call and letter to advise us that our school has once again won a SILVER AWARD for our fundraising efforts in supporting Stewart House. Please support us once again as we raise funds for this wonderful program which has provided opportunities to many of our own students to go to Sydney and experience exciting programs, sights and activities.
