8 The European Roadmap: Reclaiming the CSR agenda The Commission explicitly recognised that voluntary business initiatives, in the form of corporate social responsibility [CSR] practices, can play a key role in contributing to sustainable development while enhancing Europe s innovative potential and competitiveness The Commission therefore welcomes CSR Europe s courage and engagement and looks forward to a fruitful partnership for the future.
