Construction Industry in KSA

Construction Industry in KSA

KSA Government Investment in Construction Industry Years Budget Reference US$ 140 billion (Alrashed et al.,2014) US$ 500 billion The National Business (2014)

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) The responsibility of an organisation for the impacts of its decision and activities upon society and the environment through transparency and ethical behaviour which: achieves greater sustainability, including the health and welfare of society meets the expectations of stakeholders obeys the law and is consistent with the norm of international behaviour. (BS,2010)

Research Problem Large amount of waste as well as consuming large amount of resources Impact on the Environment High level of noise Research Problem Falling short to meet local expectations in generating employment and social welfare Lack of understanding of what CSR means to construction industry and how to practice it CO2 Emission Health and Safety Impact on society Shortage of skills

Importance of The Research Clear vision to implement CSR effectively. Construction is the worst industry in KSA from CSR aspects. The construction industry is typically project based and short term focus. CSR in KSA is still trapped in a charity mind-set rather then having an orientated strategy. CSR is an emerging concept, not seen as part of mainstream business activities nor embedded as a central corporate strategy. Need for theoretical and practical framework. Need for a guidelines and strategies.

Research Questions Q1. What are the main challenges and drivers for CSR in KSA public construction projects? Q2. How to develop optimum combined social, environmental and economic performance in public construction projects in KSA in designing CSR framework?

Research Aim and Objectives To develop a CSR decision support framework for optimising the combined social, environmental and economic performance of public construction projects in KSA The research objectives are: 1. Identify and evaluate the challenges in CSR issues within KSA public construction projects. 2. Assess the perceptions of CSR by public construction employers and employees in KSA and to examine the impact of an effective CSR on social, environmental and economic. 3. Identify the critical success factors to develop a CSR decision support framework. 4. Develop a novel CSR decision support framework for public construction projects in KSA. 5. Validate the framework for the public construction projects. 6. Provide recommendations for stakeholders of public projects within KSA

Scope of the Review Conducted CSR in Construction Industry worldwide CSR in KSA Construction CSR in KSA CSR History and Theories CSR
