1 Eligibility Rules Campus Recreation Intramural Sports Eligibility A student must be currently enrolled to participate in Intramural competition. AU ID cards will be checked and/or scanned before each intramural contest. A player having entered one contest with a team may not transfer or play for another team. A player appearing on two rosters is committed to the first team with which he/she competes. A player playing for more than one team shall be ineligible to play for any team for the remainder of the semester. EXCEPTION: A player may play for another team in order for that team to avoid forfeit. A team may pick up as many players as necessary to avoid a forfeit but must release picked up players when regular player arrives. This exception is intended for regular season only and may not be invoked during playoff games. Each team files a list of its eligible players before its first game. Players may be added until the roster addition deadline. A roster must be completed before the deadline. Any team in danger of dropping out because of loss of interest or injury may, with the Director s consent, add players after the roster addition deadline. Any individual who violates any of the rules and regulations may be disqualified from all intramurals for the balance of their University career or any part thereof. If the team which he/she represents is a party to this violation, that team may be barred from intramurals for the balance of the year or any part thereof. Some of the infractions which come under this heading are: Playing under an assumed name. Misrepresenting a score. Being a varsity letter winner at some other school and withholding that fact. Playing illegally on more than one team. Changing positions illegally in such sports as, tennis, table tennis, badminton, horseshoes, etc.

2 Liability Release & Health Insurance: All participants must sign an Auburn University Liability Release Form and have health insurance equal to or better than that offered by the Student Government Association (SGA). Information about the SGA Health Insurance program may be obtained from the SGA office in The Student Center. The Intramural Staff does not assume the responsibility for checking on the eligibility of players playing on various teams. Any cases of ineligibility called to our attention will be dealt with according to these guidelines; however, if the Staff becomes aware of eligibility rules being violated, the department will initiate action. VARSITY ATHLETE INFORMATION A Varsity Athlete is defined as any Auburn University Student Athlete competing in an athletic sport that is sponsored by the Auburn Athletic Department. Additionally any transfer student from another college or university that competed in a sport sponsored by their former athletic department is also considered a Varsity Athlete. There are certain regulations for Varsity Athletes wishing to compete in Intramural Sports at Auburn University. Varsity Athletes are restricted from competing in the sport(s) in which they are a Varsity Athlete in at an Intramural Sports level. Their Varsity Eligibility is defined as: Varsity Eligibility - The point at which a student athlete begins their Varsity career up until their last game, practice or other organized team function that they are required to participate in. Ex: For football a student athlete begins his Varsity Eligibility once he practices, works out or attends a mandated function with the team. It ends when that player is no longer associated with the team, by reasons of quitting, running out of NCAA eligibility or being dropped from the team. Ex: 1. Any basketball player that plays any minutes during an exhibition, regularseason 2. Any baseball/softball player that earns an at-bat, pinch runs, plays a field position or records time in the bullpen during an exhibition, regular-season or post-season game. 3. Any soccer player that plays any minutes during an exhibition, regularseason 4. Any volleyball player that plays any minutes during an exhibition, regularseason 5. Any football player that plays any minutes during an exhibition, regularseason

3 Athletic Scholarship is defined as any student athlete that receives any aid from the Athletic Department. A Varsity Athlete can be on Athletic Scholarship yet no longer associated with their varsity team. Eligibility Rules Campus Recreation Listed below are the requirements for each individual team sport that Auburn Intramural Sports offers. Varsity Athletes wishing to compete at an Intramural Sports level must be eligible via these requirements. Flag Football For all varsity athletes competing in any sport except football, there are no requirements. For varsity football players the following guidelines must be met and followed. For any questions regarding these requirements, please contact the Campus Recreation Office. 1. Varsity football players are INELIGIBLE to participate in Intramural Flag Football as long they have Varsity Eligibility which is defined above. 2. Varsity football players are INELIGIBLE to participate in Intramural Flag Football during the semester in which they are set to finish Varsity Eligibility. Ex: If a varsity football player concludes their Varsity Eligibility in the 2009 Fall Semester, then they are INELIGBLE for the ENTIRE 2009 Fall Semester, regardless of the reason(s) for their Varsity Eligibility ending. 3. Varsity football players are required to wait two semesters (Summer Semester does count) until they may play Intramural Flag Football. Ex: If a varsity football player concludes their Varsity Eligibility during the Fall Semester then they are ineligible to compete in Intramural Flag Football until the following Fall Semester as they sat during the Spring and Summer Semesters. 4. Teams are limited in the number of former varsity football players they may have on a team. Intramural Flag Football teams may have only one (1) former varsity football player on their team, regardless of when their Varsity Eligibility concluded. Teams violating this rule may be dropped from the league. 5. Varsity football players who are on Athletic Scholarship, regardless of their Varsity Eligibility are INELIGIBLE to compete in Intramural Flag Football until they are no longer on Athletic Scholarship. The above rules still apply after they are off Athletic Scholarship. Basketball Eligibility Rules Campus Recreation For all varsity athletes competing in any sport except basketball, there are no requirements. For varsity basketball players the following guidelines must be met and followed. For any questions regarding these requirements, please contact the Campus Recreation Office.

4 1. Varsity basketball players are INELIGIBLE to participate in Intramural Basketball as long they have Varsity Eligibility which is defined above. 2. Varsity basketball players are INELIGIBLE to participate in Intramural Basketball the semester in which they are set to finish Varsity Eligibility. Ex: If a varsity basketball player concludes their Varsity Eligibility in the 2010 Spring Semester, then they are INELIGBLE for the ENTIRE 2010 year, regardless of the reason(s) for their Varsity Eligibility ending. They would not be eligible to compete in 2010 Spring or Summer Intramural Basketball. 3. Varsity Basketball players are required to wait two semesters (Summer Semester does count) until they may play Intramural Basketball. Ex: If a varsity basketball player concludes their Varsity Eligibility during the Spring Semester then they are ineligible to compete in Intramural Basketball until the following Spring Semester as they would have been ineligible for the Summer and Fall Semesters. 4. Teams are limited in the number of former varsity basketball players they may have on a team. Intramural Basketball teams may have only one (1) former varsity basketball player on their team, regardless of when their Varsity Eligibility concluded. Teams violating this rule may be dropped from the league. 5. Varsity basketball players who are on Athletic Scholarship, regardless of their Varsity Eligibility are INELIGIBLE to compete in Intramural Basketball until they are no longer on Athletic Scholarship. The above rules still apply after they are off Athletic Scholarship. ***For all other Varsity/Associate Sports the same rules as above will apply*** Varsity/Associate Sports: Football, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Volleyball, Tennis, Golf, Track & Field, Swimming & Diving, Softball Club Sports Eligibility Rules No more than two members of an Auburn University Club Sport traveling team may participate on any one intramural team in that sport. Fraternity Intramural Program Special Rules A player must be a pledge or an active member of the fraternity listed on the I.F.C. roster to participate as a member of the fraternity intramural team. Social affiliates are not eligible to participate on the fraternity intramural team. The student must also be currently enrolled and cannot be part of the teaching faculty. Auditing a course will not be considered as currently enrolled in school. A student pledging a fraternity during the semester in which he will graduate may not participate in the Fraternity Division during this semester.

5 A pledge or transfer who has become affiliated or reaffiliated must be a member of the fraternity (15) consecutive days from the date his name is placed in the card file in the I.F.C. office prior to participating in any Fraternity Division intramural competition. Those individuals whose names are not included on the fraternity s roster for a particular sport are eligible to participate in the Independent Division. A fraternity member in graduate school and who takes 5 class hours and teaches as part of his graduate work (receiving an assistantship), is able to participate in the fraternity program as long as he is an active member of that fraternity. A graduate student working on his thesis, paying his student activities fee, but not taking 5 hours is eligible to participate in the fraternity program as long as he is an active member of that fraternity. Co-op students may participate in the fraternity program during their work semesters as long as they pay their student activities fee. All other eligibility regulations shall prevail. Independent Intramural Program Special Rules The Independent Program is for the benefit of those students not in a social fraternity or sorority. It is also for those who do not wish to play for their fraternity or sorority. Faculty, staff and graduate students are eligible to participate with independent teams. Independent groups wishing to enter several sports should have an Intramural Manager. He/she is responsible for the various teams and will work with the student supervisor to insure a well organized program. A participant s name, ID number, and phone number must be on the team roster to be eligible to play. All other eligibility regulations shall prevail. Sorority Intramural Program Special Rules A player must be a pledge or an active member of a sorority to participate as a member of a sorority team. Social affiliates are not eligible to participate in the Sorority Division of play. All other eligibility regulations shall prevail.

6 Team Captains Each fraternity, sorority or independent team should elect an Intramural Captain. The captain is to serve as the contact-person between the team and Campus Recreation. If a team is to compete successfully in Intramural Sports, a good captain is a necessity. Selection of captains should be made after consideration has been given to individual qualifications. He/she should be a student who is interested in the team s welfare. The organizations contending for championships, historically, have alert and efficient Intramural Captains. It is recommended that the Intramural Captain serve during the entire academic year. A cocaptain should work with the captain to gain experience for the following season. Captains should build direct communication with the Department. They are invited to visit the office frequently and become acquainted with the Intramural staff and the details of intramural participation. The Campus Recreation Handbook is the official source of information. By referring to it the captain can carry out his/her duties more efficiently. The team captain is responsible for the following: To see that his/her team or teams are entered in the desired sports by the deadline date set by the intramural schedule. To see that all members of his/her team are informed of place, date, and time of contest, and to see that the team members are present for the contest. To keep posted on the rules of eligibility, protests and forfeits. To attend all sports meetings conducted by the Intramural Sports Program, and complete all forms required by Campus Recreation. To write the names of his/her team on the score sheet and assist with scoring and timing of games. To submit written protests to the Director within twenty-four hours after the contest was played. To return equipment issued by Campus Recreation at the appropriate time. To manage the conduct of players and assist Intramural student supervisor in any matter requested. To see that all team members read, understand and sign the liability release forms.
