4 Course Descriptions PHAR 70 Instrumental Analysis: ( ) This course covers the advanced spectrometric methods of analysis including UV-Visible, IR, MS, NMR techniques in addition to phosphorescence spectrometry, flame emission and atomic absorption spectroscopy. Chromatographic methods are also included with special emphasis on the coupled techniques of GC/MS & LC/MS. PHAR 70 Seminar in Quality Control: ( Credit Hour) This course covers selected topics in pharmaceutical quality control presented by students as seminars. PHAR 747 Pharmaceutical Microbiology: ( ) The course covers the mode of action, resistant development and microbiological assays of antimicrobial agents in clinical use. Preservation of pharmaceuticals, sterilization, antibiotics and biotechnology including industrial microbiology, the use of microorganisms in the production of some chemicals and pharmaceuticals are to be discussed in this course. PHAR 750 Drug Design: ( ) This course includes discussion and presentation of the basic principles of designing a dosage form from the pharmaceutical point of view starting with prodrugs and modification of conventional drugs. It includes a presentation of the modes of degradation of drugs and enhancing their stability within the dosage form. PHAR 75 Advanced Physical Pharmacy: ( ) This course attempts to integrate the factual knowledge of pharmacy through the development of broad principles of its own, and it aids the students to predict solubility, compatibility and biologic action of drug products. This course includes solubility, diffusion, dissolution, adsorption and micellization.

5 PHAR 75 Pharmaceutical Dosage Form Technology: ( ) This course covers the fundamental concepts of dosage forms, updating theories and technology used to formulate and evaluate dosage forms, the impact of different parameters on the manufacturing and bioavailability of finished products. Control of cross contamination during processing of dosage forms, industrial scale production and problems associated with its production, and advanced techniques adopted in the evaluation of pharmaceutical dosage forms will be included. PHAR 758 Drug Stability: ( ) A comprehensive course, which encompasses the study of parameters affecting stability and safety of dosage forms. These parameters include drug polymorphs, ph and ph rate profile, prodrugs, drug analog and additive interactions. PHAR 759 Disperse Systems: ( ) This course covers theories of suspensions, emulsions and colloids. It also covers rheological and mechanical properties of dispersed systems, viscosity imparting agents, bioavailability and preservation of dispersed systems. Equipments, quality assurance, validation and regulations dealing with dispersed systems will also be covered. PHAR 76 Sterile Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms: ( ) A comprehensive study of the design and manufacture of safe, effective, and reliable pharmaceutical dosage forms with special emphasis given to parentral products. PHAR 76 Solid Dosage Form Quality Assurance: ( ) This course deals with quality control of solid dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, microcapsules, powder and unit operations that are related to it.
