3 Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória PRESENTATION The Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória was built as a memorial to the battle that guaranteed the total independence of the kingdom of Portugal (1385). It was planned to serve as the pantheon for the kings and queens of Portugal. The Dominican monastery, which was begun in the late 14th century, is the most important example in Portugal of the late Gothic style of European architecture, and it stands as a unique testimony to the cultural and artistic exchanges between the Mediterranean south and the Atlantic north. Wheelchairs and personal accompaniment are provided if required PARKING For cars: Available to the north and south of the monastery, with spaces for 100/200 vehicles. Parking is free. For coaches: Available to the south of the monastery (private car park) and to the east (next to the multipurpose pavilion) with spaces for 12 coaches. Parking is free CLOAKROOM CAFÉ The Monastery has no café SHOP Open at same times as the Monastery. Items on sale: postcards, publications of an academic or educational nature and reproductions of pieces from the collections of IGESPAR monuments LIBRARY Monday to Friday, 9.00 am am and 2.00 pm 5.30 pm

To be booked in advance, on terms to be agreed OWN CATERING EVENTS PERMITTED Meals, meetings, musical recitals or poetry readings, book launches, formal acts, activities of a cultural nature, exhibitions. To be arranged in advance, terms to be agreed SPECIAL MEALS OTHER EQUIPMENT PRIVATE VISITS These must be organised outside the normal opening hours. To be booked in advance, terms to be agreed. The tour is similar to that of normal visits, with practically the whole of the monastery being open to visitors. The price of such visits are to be agreed in advance, including the cost of the overtime payments to be made to the monastery s staff. ENTERTAINMENT PROVIDED TECHNICAL RESTRICTIONS / SECURITY To be arranged in advance. The serving of meals is not permitted.
