1.1 Home 1 MODULES OF THE APPLICATION The access to IRRIWEST Irrigation Advisory Service has to be through Internet at the URL The first page or log in page contains a brief description of IRRIWEST Project (main aim, consortium, financing, etc.) and a login. The user cannot access any other interface unless login has been done, by providing the username and the password in the corresponding text boxes and clicking the Log in button. Figure 1: Log in page of IRRIWEST Web Platform. Once the user has been successfully logged in, the application displays the home page of the IRRIWEST Platform, which contains a summary of the main functionalities offered by the platform as well as a description of the two main modules of the platform: IRRIGATION ADVISORY SERVICE (IAS) The IRRIWEST Irrigation Advisory Service is a module that estimates the water needs of the crops based on FAO 56 water balance model and provides farmers with irrigation recommendations. The IRRIWEST Irrigation Advisory Service offers two calculation methods to derive crop evapotranspiration from reference evapotranspiration (ETo), single crop coefficient method and dual crop coefficient method. METEOROLOGY within this module the user can consult meteorological data of different areas of Senegal and Ghana, set up weather warnings and consult the history of weather warnings. 5
Figure 2: Home page of the IRRIWEST web platform. 1.2 Irrigation Advisory Service Module The Irrigation Advisory Service (IAS) Module provides the user with a tool that estimates the water needs of crops based on FAO 56 water balance model and provides farmers with irrigation recommendations. The IAS Module offers two calculation methods to derive crop evapotranspiration from ETo: BASIC METHOD Single crop coefficient approach (Kc): The effect of crop transpiration and soil evaporation are combined into a single crop coefficient (kc). The coefficient integrates differences in the soil evaporation and crop transpiration rate between the crop and the grass reference surface. This method is recommended for basic irrigation schedules, irrigation management, irrigation planning and design. COMPLEX METHOD Dual crop coefficient approach (K cb + K e ): The effects of crop transpiration and soil evaporation are determined separately. Two coefficients are used: the basal crop coefficient (K cb ) to describe plant transpiration, and the soil water evaporation coefficient (K e ) to describe evaporation from the soil surface. The dual procedure is best for real time irrigation scheduling, for soil water balance computations, and for research studies where effects of day to day variations in soil surface wetness and the resulting impacts on daily crop evapotranspiration (ET c ), the soil water profile, and deep percolation fluxes are important. This is the case for high frequency irrigation with micro irrigation systems or lateral move 6
systems such as centre pivots and linear move systems. It is recommended for advanced users. Figure 3: Home page of the IRRIWEST Irrigation Advisory Service SINGLE CROP COEFFICIENT APPROACH (Kc) The sub module of the single crop coefficient approach is divided into three sections, presented as tabs in the navigation menu: Plots within this tab of the navigation menu the user can create a new plot, as well as view, edit or delete existing plots. In order to create a new plot the user has to provide information on the location of the plot, the type of soil and the weather station. Crops within this tab the user can add crops to the existing plots, by specifying at least the crop, the sowing date, the initial moisture level of the soil and the type of irrigation system. Water Balance within this tab the user can consult the water balance calculations based on the dual crop coefficient approach. 7
Figure 4: Home page of the Single approach Irrigation Advisory Service module Plots Within the sub module Plots the user can create a new plot, as well as view, edit or delete existing plots. Each plot will be associated to a weather station and to a soil type. Furthermore, each plot will have from 1 to several crops associated, each of them with its specific sowing date and type of irrigation system. If the user clicks on the tab of plots the application displays a table with the plots already registered by the user and offers the possibility of editing or deleting any of the existing plots, searching for a certain plot or creating a new plot. Figure 5: IAS Single approach: home page of plots. 8
Furthermore the user can view the plots in a map by clicking on the button view plots in a map. The application will display the plots as blue circles over google maps and the user will be able to move through the map and to obtain the most relevant information of each plot by clicking on the blue circle. Figure 6: IAS Single approach view plots in a map. If the user wants to create a new plot, at least the following data should be specified: name of the plot, type of plot (real plot or virtual plot for simulations), associated weather station and type of soil. The figure below shows the interface for registering a new plot under the single coefficient approach of the IAS module. 9
Figure 7: IAS Single approach: registering a new plot. First the user has to complete the plot identification data or general data, that is, the name of the plot and the type of plot, real or virtual plot for simulations. It is worth noting that the type of plot (real or virtual plot) is a key data for the reports module. The virtual plots are conceived mainly as a tool for S&T agents who want to simulate different types of plots and conditions which are not real. This way the plots marked as virtual plots are not taken into account in the reports module which provides country administrators with 10
reports on the number of sowed hectares, the percentage of plots with a certain irrigation system, etc. These reports will only consider the data of the real plots. With regard to the location of the plot the user can introduce the coordinates of the plot by entering the latitude and longitude of the site in decimal degrees (DDD) or selecting the location of the plot directly on the map. If the user selects the location of the plot by double clicking on the map the application will automatically register the coordinates of the selected point (latitude and longitude). The user is also asked to select one of the available weather stations. The user has to select the preferred weather station from a dropdown list. The user can use the map to see which the nearest weather station is (marked in green), or can opt for indicating the town or village where the plot is located and the application will suggest the most appropriate weather station for such plot. Lastly the user has to specify the type of soil by selecting one of the following options from the dropdown list: 1 Clay; 2 Silty clay; 3 Sandy clay; 4 Clay loam; 5 Silty clay loam; 6 Silt loam; 7 Silt; 8 Loam; 9 Sandy clay loam; 10 Sandy loam; 11 Loamy sand; 12 Sand; and 13 Unknown soil type. If the user selects the soil option Unknown, the application will ask the user to select one of the following 3 soil textures: 1 fine textured soil; 2 medium textured soil; or 3 coarse textured soil. If the user specifies a soil texture the system will use the default values for the following types of soils: 1. Fine textured soil silty clay soil 2. Medium textured soil sandy clay soil 3. Coarse textured soil loamy sand soil Finally the user has the possibility of using different search filters to find one or more plots. The available search filters are as follows: plot name, type of plot, soil type, meteorological station, province, registration date and crops associated to the plot. The user has to complete the desired search filters and click Filter button. Then the application will display a table in the lower part of the webpage body with the results of the plot search. 11
Figure 8: IAS Single approach: searching a plot Crops Once the user has registered a plot it is possible to associate crops to the plot. If the user clicks on the tab of crops in the navigation menu the application shows a summary table with the crops already registered by the user in the IRRIWEST Platform under the single approach and the user can edit or delete existing crops, search for a certain crop, or create new crops. Figure 9: IAS Single approach: homepage of crops. 12
If the user wants to add a new crop to a certain plot, the user has to click on the button New and then select the desired plot by using the dropdown lists of Type of plot and Plot name and click the button Add crop. Figure 10: IAS single approach adding a crop to a existing plot. Once the user clicks on Add crop a new interface will appear for introducing the data of the new crop. In order to add a new crop to an existing plot the user should specify at least the following data: Crop related information the desired crop should be selected from a dropdown list; the sowing date has to be introduced by means of the interactive calendar that appears when clicking on the plus icon (+); the value of the crop surface in hectares should be introduced in the textbox; and the initial water content of the soil should be selected from a dropdown list with 5 options: very dry, dry, normal, wet, and very wet. Irrigation related information: the user has to select the desired type of irrigation system from a dropdown list with 3 options (furrow, sprinklers, and drip irrigation) and the irrigation frequency. If the irrigation system selected by the user is sprinklers or drip irrigation, the user will be able to introduce the capacity of the irrigation system (l/m2 h). With this data the system will be capable of estimating the irrigation requirements not only in mm o l/m2 of water required but also in terms of irrigation duration. It is worth noting that the user does not have the option of choosing flood irrigation for rice for the type of irrigation system. The reason why this option is not available is that this approach is not suitable for such type of irrigation; therefore the user should opt for the dual coefficient approach of the IAS module. 13
Figure 11: IAS Single approach: registering a new crop. Furthermore within this interface the user can also activate the notification service for irrigation recommendations. To this end, the user has to select the desired frequency for the notifications, either standard (which means that a daily notification will be sent with the recommendation for irrigation every 1, 3 and 7 days) or according to the irrigation frequency specified by the user. Moreover the user has to enter a cell phone number and an address, click the checkbox of activate SMS alert if the user wants to activate SMS notifications and the checkbox activate alert if the user wants to activate notifications; and click on Add button. Figure 12: IAS Single Approach: entering the information for activating the notification service. Once the user clicks on Add button the information for the irrigation recommendations is registered and displayed in a table. The user can add as many recipients for notifications as desired and can activate or deactivate the notifications as well as delete any recipient data when desired by clicking on the update and delete links respectively. 14
Figure 13: IAS Single Approach: notification on irrigation recommendations. Each time a user activates the or SMS notification service, the application sends an automatic notification in order to confirm the subscription to the service. If the user has activated the notification service a confirmation like the one shown in the figure below is sent and if the user activates the SMS notification service an automatic confirmation SMS is sent (Figure 15). Figure 14: confirming the subscription. Figure 15: SMS notifying the subscription in the IAS service. 15
Water Balance Within this sub module the user can consult the results of the water balance calculations based on the single coefficient approach. To do so, the user has to select the desired plot, crop, sowing date and irrigation type, directly from the table or by using the dropdown lists. Moreover, the user has to specify the data range for the calculation by selecting the start and end dates for the calculation by means of the interactive calendar that appears when clicking on the plus icon (+). Figure 16: IAS Single approach: water balance. It is worth mentioning that the water balance calculations are performed only between the sowing date and the theoretical crop end date. If the timeframe selected by the user is out of this data range, the application will display a warning message informing the user. Figure 17: Warning message on selected timeframe for water balance calculations. As a result of the water balance calculation the application will show a chart and a table with the results of the water balance calculations. The upper part of the webpage contains a box with the most relevant data of the crop under study: plot, soil, crop, sowing date, irrigation system and timeframe of the water balance calculations. 16
Figure 18: IAS Single approach. Results of the water balance. This chart is an interactive dynamic chart. The interactive dynamic chart detects mouse movement over chart elements and displays the data of each of the parameters of the chart corresponding to the time stamp of the mouse position. Moreover the user can add or remove the data series to be displayed by clicking over the name of the data series to be removed or added in the chart legend. Besides the charts can be easily zoomed in and zoomed out by using the scroll bar of the top to select the desired data range. Furthermore the chart can be downloaded in PNG format by clicking on the download icon. 17
Figure 19: IAS Single approach. Downloadable water balance graph (PNG format). In the same way, the table with the data can be downloaded as a CSV file by clicking on the icon Figure 20: IAS Single approach. CSV file with the water balance results. 18
1.2.2 DUAL CROP COEFFICIENT APPROACH (Kcb+ Ke) This module is divided into four sections, presented as tabs: Plots: within this tab the user can create a new plot, as well as view, edit or delete existing plots. So as to create a new plot the user has to provide information on the location of the plot, the type of soil and the weather station. Crops: within this tab the user can add crops to the existing plots, by specifying at least the crop, the sowing date, the initial moisture level of the soil and the type of irrigation system. Irrigation: within this tab the user can edit the irrigation systems of the crops, set up SMS and/or alerts on irrigation requirements, and register the watering performed to a crop. Water balance: within this tab the user can consult the water balance calculations based on the dual crop coefficient approach. Figure 21: Homepage of the Dual Approach IAS. 19
Plots As in the case of IAS single approach within the tab Plots of the navigation menu of the dual approach the user can create a new plot, view, edit, delete or search existing plots. In the same way, the application will show a table with the plots already registered by the user specifying its main data: name, type of plot, country, surface of the plot, associated weather station, type of soil and registration date. It is worth mentioning that the user can sort the table items by clicking on the different headers of the table, which can be very helpful when the number of plots depicted in the paginated table is very large. Figure 22: IAS Dual Approach: plots home page. Furthermore the table offers the possibility of downloading the plot datasheet with a summary of the main data of the plot by clicking on View sheet. The user can edit or delete any existing plot with the blue links that appear on the left and right sides of the table respectively. Moreover with the button menu which is above the table, the user can create a new plot, search a certain plot by using one or more search filters, and view the plots in a map. If the users click the button view plots in a map the application displays a map below the table. All the plots registered by the user are displayed in the map as blue dots. If the user clicks on any of the dots of the plots the application displays a globe with the most relevant data of the plot: name of the plot, latitude, longitude, altitude, type of soil and surface of the plot. 20
Figure 23: IAS Dual Approach. View of the plots in a map Definition of the plot In order to create a new plot the user has to provide diverse data of the plot, including: 1 plot identification data, 2 location of the plot and 3 soil data. PLOT IDENTIFICATION First the user has to complete the plot identification data, that is, the name of the plot, the type of plot (real or virtual plot for simulations), the plot manager and a brief description of the plot if desired. PLOT LOCATION The user has to specify the province or county where the plot is located (optional), the surface of the plot in hectares and the altitude of the plot in meters (optional). In addition the user has to enter the coordinates of the plot (latitude and longitude) in decimal degrees (DDD) or select the location of the plot directly on the map. If the user selects the location of the plot by double clicking on the map the application will register the coordinates of the selected point (latitude and longitude). 21
WEATHER STATION Figure 24: IAS Dual Approach: general data and location of the plot. Finally the user has to select one of the available weather stations. The user has to select the preferred weather station from a dropdown list. The user can use the map to see which the nearest weather station is (marked in green), or can opt for indicating the town or village where the plot is located and the application will suggest the most appropriate weather station for such plot. Figure 25: IAS Dual Approach. Weather station associated to the plot. 22
SOIL DATA The user has to specify the type of soil by selecting one of the following options from the dropdown list: 1 Clay; 2 Silty clay; 3 Sandy clay; 4 Clay loam; 5 Silty clay loam; 6 Silt loam; 7 Silt; 8 Loam; 9 Sandy clay loam; 10 Sandy loam; 11 Loamy sand; 12 Sand; and 13 Unknown soil type. If the user selects Unknown option, the user will be asked to select one soil texture: 1 fine textured soil; 2 medium textured soil; or 3 coarse textured soil. If the user specifies a soil texture the system will use the default values for the following types of soils: 1. Fine textured soil silty clay soil 2. Medium textured soil sandy clay soil 3. Coarse textured soil loamy sand soil Moreover the user is asked about the depth of the soil. If the user knows the depth of the soil the application will show a text box where the user can specify the depth of the plot s soil in meters. On the contrary, if the user doesn t know the depth of the soil, the application will show a dropdown list with the following 3 options: Shallow (30cm): if the user chooses this option the application will assume that the soil depth is around 30 cm. Deep (0.75*Zr max ): if the user chooses this option the application will assume that the soil depth is equal to multiplying the maximum root depth of the crop by Unknown: if the user chooses this option the application will assume that the soil depth is equal to multiplying the maximum root depth of the crop by Figure 26: IAS Dual approach: soil information of the plot. Finally it is worth noting that the user can create a new version of the soil as well as editing an existing version. This feature allows users tailoring the values of the soil parameters to adjust them as much as possible to the real soil properties of their plots. 23
This way the user can tailor soil parameters to better match with the real characteristics of the soil of the plot. The parameters that can be adjusted are as follows: percentages of clay, silt and sand; Total Available Water (TAW); SAT; Ks; Total Evaporable Water (TEW) and Readily Evaporable Water (REW). Besides, the user always has the possibility of restoring the default values for that type of soil by clicking on the button Restore default settings Plot datasheet Figure 27: New soil version. The user can download a datasheet of the plot by clicking the link View sheet in the summary table of the initial interface of the tab of plots. The plot datasheet contains the main data of the plot: identification data, location, soil data and information concerning the crops associated to the plot. 24
Figure 28: IAS Dual approach: example of a plot datasheet Search a plot The user can search a plot by using one or more search filters and clicking on Filter button. The search filters available are as follows: country, plot name, type of plot, 25
registration date, type of soil, weather station, province, surface of the plot and crops. The user has to complete the desired search filters and click Filter button. Then the application will display a table in the lower part of the webpage body with the results of the plot search. Figure 29: IAS Dual Approach: results of the plot search Crops The user accesses this submodule by directly clicking on the tab of crops. The initial interface displays a summary table with the crops already registered by the user in the IRRIWEST Platform under the Dual Approach of the IAS and the user can edit or delete existing crops, as well as associating new crops to a plot. 26
Figure 30: IAS Dual Approach: homepage of crops sub module. If the user wants to add a new crop to a certain plot, the user has to click on New button and then select the plot by using the dropdown lists of Type of plot and Plot name and click the button Add crop. Figure 31: IAS Dual Approach: selecting the plot so as to add a new crop. Once the user clicks on Add crop a new interface will appear for introducing the data of the new crop. The data is group in two main sections: crop related information and type of irrigation system. In order to complete the crop related information the desired crop should be selected from a dropdown list; the sowing date has to be introduced by means of the interactive calendar that appears when clicking on the plus icon (+); the value of the crop surface in hectares should be introduced in the textbox; and the initial water content of the soil should be selected from a dropdown list with 5 options: very dry, dry, normal, wet, and very wet. Furthermore the user can create a new version of a crop as well as editing an 27
existing crop version. This feature allows tailoring the values of the crop parameters to adjust them as much as possible to the crop varieties and the real crops been grown. This way the user can tailor crop parameters to better match with the real characteristics of the crop. When clicking on the links Create new version or Edit version a new interface where the user can edit the crop parameters appears. This way the user can tailor all the crop parameters and always has the possibility of restoring the default values for that crop by clicking on the button Restore default settings. Figure 32: Crop version. The user has to introduce the information related to the type of irrigation system. To this end the user has to select the desired type of irrigation system from a dropdown list with 4 28
options: furrow, sprinklers, drip irrigation and flood irrigation for rice. When the user selects the type of irrigation system the application automatically loads the default values for irrigation system efficiency (%) and for the fraction of soil surface wetted by irrigation or precipitation (fw). If desired the user can edit the values of those parameters so that they better much with the characteristics of its real irrigation system. If the irrigation system selected by the user is sprinklers or drip irrigation, the user can introduce the capacity of the irrigation system (l/m2 h). With this data the system will be capable of estimating the irrigation requirements not only in mm o l/m2 of water required but also in terms of irrigation duration. Besides, the user has to specify the type of irrigation management, non periodic irrigation associated to water stress or periodic irrigation. Figure 33: IAS Dual Approach: Adding a new crop to a plot. If the irrigation management option selected is periodic irrigation the application will display an additional section where the user has to complete the irrigation scheduling data: irrigation frequency in days and irrigation dose expressed as a decimal. Figure 34: IAS Dual approach: irrigation scheduling information. 29
Once all the information has been completed the user clicks on the Save button and the crop is added to the selected plot. It is worth noting that if the user selects flood irrigation for rice a new panel will appear so that the user can enter information on the target water sheet height for the different growth stages of rice, as well as empirical data on the drainage of the plot soil. Figure 35: IAS Dual approach: additional information requested for flood irrigation systems. Furthermore, for flood irrigation the only irrigation management option allowed is periodic irrigation. If the user selects flood irrigation for rice and non periodic irrigation when trying to save the data the application will show a warning message and will not save the data until it is correct. Figure 36: Example of the warning message Irrigation Within the tab of irrigation the user can edit the irrigation systems of the crops, set up SMS and/or notifications on irrigation recommendations, and register the watering performed to a certain crop. 30
Figure 37: IAS Dual Approach: homepage of irrigation sub module. The homepage of the irrigation sub module displays a table with the crops already registered by the user in the IRRIWEST Platform under the Dual Approach of the IAS. The user can access the Irrigation module functionalities by selecting the desired plot, either by clicking on the Edit link of the table appearing on the left side of the crop or by clicking the Search button and using the search filters available (plot name, crop, sowing date and irrigation system). Figure 38: IAS Dual Approach Irrigation sub module: Selection of the crop. Once the crop is chosen the application displays a summary with the most relevant data of the selected crop and enables the irrigation menu buttons: irrigation system, set up SMS/ alerts, and watering. 31
Figure 39: IAS Dual Approach: options available within the Irrigation sub module Irrigation systems In this interface of the application the user can edit or enter information related to the irrigation system of a certain crop. Therefore the interface is quite similar to the interface of crops of the dual approach sub module (please refer to section for detailed information). Figure 40: IAS Dual Approach: irrigation system information. 32
Set up SMS/ alerts The user can set up SMS and/or notifications on irrigation recommendations. If the user chooses this option the application displays a summary with the data available for the selected crop and irrigation system. In order to activate the notification service on irrigation recommendations the user has to introduce the desired frequency for receiving the notifications (standard frequency 1, 3 and 7 days; or according to the irrigation frequency specified); and has to complete the information of the farmers and beneficiaries who will receive the notifications with the irrigation recommendations. The user can enter manually the name, cell phone number and/or address of each farmer. It is also possible select the beneficiaries from a dropdown list and the data of the selected beneficiaries will be automatically loaded by the application. Figure 41: IAS Dual Approach: setting up SMS/ alerts. 33
Watering Within this section of the application the user can introduce manually the watering performed to the crop. When the user chooses this option, the application displays a summary of the crop and the irrigation system selected, and also a calendar. Figure 42: IAS Dual Approach: Watering. The user can select the desired date on the interactive calendar; when clicking on the desired date, the watering date field will be automatically completed and the user will be able to enter the quantity of the watering in l/m 2 performed for that date in the corresponding text box, and click Add button to save the data. 34
Figure 43: IAS Dual Approach registering a watering. As soon as the user saves the data by clicking the Add button the data of the watering is registered and displayed in a table format on the right side of the interface under the heading Summary of the watering registered. Moreover the calendar through which users can move to any day in any year, displays in green those days for which the user has registered any watering and in orange those days for which watering is scheduled according to the irrigation frequency specified by the user. In addition the application displays a table with the data of the watering registered by the user. Figure 44: IAS Dual Approach Overview of watering performed. It is worth noting, that the data provided by the user concerning the watering performed is used in the water balance model for the estimation of the crop s water needs Water Balance Within this sub module the user can consult the results of the water balance calculations based on the dual coefficient approach. To do so, the user has to select the desired plot, crop, sowing date and irrigation type, directly from the table or by using the dropdown lists. Moreover, the user has to specify the data range for the calculation by selecting the 35
start and end dates for the calculation by means of the interactive calendar that appears when clicking on the plus icon (+). Figure 45: IAS Dual Approach: Water balance homepage. It is worth mentioning that the water balance calculations are performed only between the sowing date and the theoretical crop end date. If the timeframe selected by the user is out of this data range, the application will display a warning message informing the user. Figure 46: Warning message on selected timeframe for water balance calculations. As a result the application will show an interactive dynamic chart and a table with the results of the water balance calculations. The upper part of the webpage contains a box with the most relevant data of the crop under study: plot, soil, crop, sowing date, irrigation system and timeframe of the water balance calculations. 36
Figure 47: IAS Dual Approach: water balance results. This chart is an interactive dynamic chart. The interactive dynamic chart detects mouse movement over chart elements and displays the data of each of the parameters of the chart corresponding to the time stamp of the mouse position. Moreover the user can add or remove the data series to be displayed by clicking over the name of the data series to 37
be removed or added in the chart legend. Besides the charts can be easily zoomed in and zoomed out by using the scroll bar of the top to select the desired data range. Furthermore the chart can be downloaded in PNG format by clicking on the download icon. Figure 48: IAS Dual Approach Chart downloadable in PNG format. The table with the data, which can be downloaded as a CSV file by clicking on the icon located on the right top of the webpage, depicts the results of the waterbalance calculations. As it can be seen in the figure below the values of NIWR corresponding to real waterings registered by the user are marked in orange so as to differentiate them from the calculated values. Figure 49: IAS Dual Approach: Table downloadable in CSV format. 38
Furthermore the table which displays the water balance calculations allows the user editing the quantities of the column of GIWR (Gross Irrigation Water Requirement) in order to make them coincident with the real watering performed by the user for that crop and updates the water balance calculations accordingly. To do so, the user should click on the pencil icon of the right side, edit the value of GIWR and click on the green accept icon to save the new value. This action has the same effect as introducing the watering in the watering sub module of irrigation. Figure 50: Edition of GIWR by using the pencil. Figure 51: Updated values according to the GIWR value edited by the user by means of the pencil icon. 1.3 Meteorology Module Within this module of the IRRIWEST Platform the user can consult the meteorological data measured by the weather stations, set up alerts for weather warnings and consult the history of the weather warnings registered. 39
1.3.1 CONSULT WEATHER DATA Figure 52: Home page of the meteorology module. In order to consult the meteorological data measured by the weather stations, the user has to select the desired weather station or plot from the corresponding dropdown list, as well as the meteorological parameters to be displayed by using the multi select boxes. Moreover the user has to specify the desired timeframe by selecting the start and end dates for the calculation by means of the interactive calendar that appears when clicking on the plus icon (+) and the start and end time by using the hour and minute dropdown list. The user has to specify the data frequency for the selected timeframe: all the available data, hourly data, daily data or monthly data. Figure 53: Interface to select the meteorological data to be consulted. 40
Furthermore the user can set threshold values for each of the meteorological parameters selected by selecting the meteorological parameter from the dropdown list, introducing the threshold value in the text box and clicking on the forward arrow. In the same way the user can remove any added threshold by selecting it from the added threshold box and clicking the backwards arrow. These threshold values will be displayed as dotted line on the chart so that the user can easily identify those values that are below or above the established threshold. Once all the desired data for the consultation has been introduced the user has to click the View button. Figure 54: Overview of the results of the meteorological data consultation. 41
Figure 55: Chart displaying the results of the meteorological data consultation. In the same way, the table with the data can be downloaded as a CSV file by clicking on the icon located on the right top of the webpage. 42
1.3.2 SET UP WEATHER WARNINGS The user can set up notifications for weather warnings. First the user has to select the desired weather station or weather stations, directly by using the dropdown list of weather stations or by using the dropdown list of plots and the system will automatically display the weather stations associated to the selected plots. Afterwards the user has to specify the address to which the weather warning notifications will be sent. In addition the user has to select the desired frequency for the notifications: once a day or once a week. Finally the user has to specify the minimum and maximum threshold values for each of the desired meteorological parameters HISTORICAL WEATHER WARNINGS In this section of the platform the user can consult the history of the weather warnings. In order to obtain the list of historical weather warnings, the user has to select the desired weather or weather stations, the meteorological parameters and the preferred timeframe. As a result the platform will display a table containing for each of the historical weather warnings, the value of the parameter, the date and time of the event, the established maximum and minimum thresholds and the associated weather station. The table with the results of the consultation can be downloaded in CSV format by clicking on the icon. 43
