Learn and Volunteer at Hartees Animal Sanctuary With present-day time restraints on people that need to learn either for work or leisure, International House Cape Town has designed a programme which ultimately combines learning with participating in meaningful volunteer projects in South Africa. Course: you will be able to work on your grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and skills in contexts related to the wonderful natural environment in which you will find yourself. Volunteer Project: #2 Heart for Orphans (Senior) At the home for children and teens, the volunteer`s morning is spent at at a secondary component of our `Words Changing Worlds` project. At this project they provide a literacy programme to support children at - speaking, inner-city schools whose first language (elephants, monkeys, vultures and eagles to name a few) and aims to improve their living detect the needs and improve the living and environmental conditions of the various animals at these locations. 4 #7 #9 Streetwise Soccer Penguin Rescue Streetwise Soccer is aimed at using soccer as a tool for personal and social transformation in a holistic programme called COACHING-4-LIFE! Volunteers will work in conjunction with the project coaches using soccer as a tool to create focus, drive and dedication in our Volunteers and coaches help with identifying and mentoring the youngsters in the local Cape Town`s wild seas are prone to ships having oil spills, which is very bad news for endangered sea birds like the African Penguin that lives and swims along the Cape coast. Due to pollution and climate change penguin chicks are becoming more and more vulnerable, and without all it can to nurture and rescue penguins and other sea birds in distress. Volunteers get involved their swimming pools. Once the sea birds are healthy and fit enough to survive, they are released back into the wild. Min Duration: 6 Weeks #10 Adventure Surf Club Project the kids how to swim or surf, either in a pool or on the beach. No surfing experience is necessary. Volunteers get free surfing so that they can teach the kids to surf. #8 Words Changing Worlds (Children reading project) At the project we provide a literacy programme to support children at -speaking, also refer to the children as learning partners as we believe that you will both be learning from one another. It s a partnership filled with mutual respect for what you both may bring to this journey you are embarking on. We want children to have fun while learning and to be excited about what they see and hear. We want to give them the message that any dream is possible. Fear and anxiety do not play a part in learning, and all expectations are put aside. 6 #15 #17 Great White Shark Conservation Project Get involved in a shark research programme in Gansbaai - the shark cage diving capital of the world and about 2 hours drive from Cape Town. Our volunteer programmes offer a limited number of places each year which allows participants to gain the maximum from their time whilst working closely with biologists from our research team and on our daily shark cage diving vessel. They are cared for by our volunteers and live out the rest of their lives at the sanctuary. However, those that are able to survive in the wild are nursed back to health and released back into the wild. Our aims and objectives are: To rescue and treat al linjured or orphaned wildlife brought to our attention. The rehabilitation of animals to their optimal level of functioning. To provide a save and suitable environment for birds and animals who do not have the ability to survive re-introduction into their natural environment.
