2 1. What is the purpose of the IDProve 700 Display Cards? IDProve 700 Display Cards are secure and convenient devices that provide state-of-the-art cryptographic functions required for strong authentication, data protection and secure web access. It is one of the key elements of the IT security of enterprises and large organizations. IDProve 700 Display Cards fulfill Two Factors of Authentication (2FA) technology by implementing the event based and unconnected OTP (One Time Password) OATH specifications. 2. What is an IDProve 700 Display card? IDProve is a credit card format OTP token device that provides a simple solution for secure remote access with strong authentication. Embedded battery OTP display screen Secure micro-controller OTP button IDProve includes a battery, a button, a 6-digit display and a secure micro-controller with Flash memory. 3. How does IDProve 700 work? To use the IDProve 700 unit, just push the button and read the OTP number displayed for a few seconds. The OTP value is the result of a cryptographic operation based on a secret key stored in the unit at provisioning time and the OTP counter.
3 4. What is the purpose of the IDPrime.NET 7510 card? The main interest of the IDPrime.NET 7510 Display Card is that it fulfils two use cases in one single badge format device: The user is working at the office on a PC connected to the local network. He inserts his smart card in a reader, logs on to the enterprise domain and performs other PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) based operations such as digital signature and encryption. Please note that, on Windows 8, it will be possible to log on using the OTP technology. The user is working externally on any kind of workstation, possibly a smart phone or a PC located in an uncontrolled environment and not equipped with a smart card reader. He authenticates to the enterprise VPN using an OTP number displayed by the card and therefore he can access the corporate network. 5. What is an IDPrime.NET 7510 card? IDPrime.NET 7510 is a smart card format device that provides enterprises with PKI and OTP functions compliant with their Logical Access Control systems. It embeds a Gemalto IDPrime 510.NET card module in a IDProve 700 Display Card body. These two parts are not electrically connected and can be considered as two separate devices. IDPrime.NET module Embedded battery OTP display screen OTP button Secure micro-controller 6. How does the IDPrime.NET 7510 card work? The.NET module is the same as that the standard IDPrime.NET 510 smart card. It basically provides PKI functions such as logon, digital signature and encryption, as well as, optionally, a biometric Matchon Card capability. In option, the IDPrime.NET 7510 module may also come with its own OTP application which is different from the IDProve 700 unit. See details below. For more information about the IDPrime.NET 510 cards, please refer to the IDPrime.NET web pages. To use the Display Card unit of IDPrime.NET 7510, push the button and read the OTP number displayed for a few seconds. The OTP value is the result of a cryptographic operation based on a secret key stored in the unit at provisioning time and the OTP counter.
4 7. How does the battery work? The battery is embedded in the Display Cards and is charged in factory. It allows a minimum number of 15 K OTP numbers displayed during a period of 3 years. There is no way to change or recharge the battery. 8. Can the Display Card be graphically customized? Yes, just like any other smart card. The only limitation is the zone reserved for the Token ID at the back of the card (in case of the OTP batch provisioning version). The graphical artwork should be done according to Gemalto Design Guidelines. A customization fee is required. A magnetic stripe is also possible. 9. Can the Display Card be printed by the customer? Yes. It should be done according to Gemalto Design Guidelines. 10. Can the Display card have a contactless interface for Physical Access Control applications? The Display Card embeds an ISO contactless interface providing a unique RFID number that could possibly be used by a Physical Access Control system. However this interface is not compatible with standard proprietary technologies such as MIFARE or HID Prox / IClass. The embedding of these types of contactless chip in the Display Card is not possible. 11. How does the OTP work? The Display Card operates as an event based and unconnected OTP device. The user pushes the OTP button and reads the OTP value displayed. The OTP number is calculated according to the OATH inter-industry standard. It is the result of a cryptographic operation based on a secret Token ID and the OTP counter. 12. How does the OTP work for the IDPrime.NET 7510 card? The.NET card module and the Display Card unit both support OTP-OATH event based authentication but in a slightly different way: The.NET card module is connected to the PC through the smart card reader. The user clicks on Generate OTP in his browser windows and types in his password in order to authenticate to a web site or application. The OTP function of the.net module is optional and not provided in the standard version. The Display Card unit operates as an unconnected device. The user clicks on the OTP button and reads the OTP value displayed. Note: If the.net Display card is inserted in a smart card reader and cannot be removed (because it would lock the session for example), the display unit may be hidden by the reader, and therefore the Display Card cannot be used in this particular case.
5 13. How is the OTP provisioned? The OTP Display Card requires the usage of an ISO compliant contactless reader such as the Gemalto Prox-SU or DU. The OTP Display Card is live or self-provisioned, meaning that the OTP secret key, called the OTP seed, must be provisioned either by the Administrator (live-provisioning) or by the user himself (selfprovisioning) using the Gemalto IDConfirm 100 (ex SA Server). IDConfirm 1000 asks the Administrator or the user to enter a Token ID and then securely downloads the OTP seed into the device. Each device has got a different serial number called Token ID printed. This Token ID is 12 digits long starting by GANC and followed by 8 numerical digits. It is recommended to enter this Token ID during the provisioning process because this ID is written electrically into the OTP device in order to match with the printed one. This correspondence can be helpful in case of issue debugging, if needed. However it is still possible to enter a different Token ID at provisioning time. As a reminder, the OTP value computed by both the device and the OTP server is a cryptographic function based on the event counter and the OTP seed, according the OTP-OATH specifications.
