2 Borrow e-books and audiobooks. (Click links in this presentation to be re-directed.) Digital media is online through Overdrive. Go to our website. Next, click the link to OverDrive directly from the library s website wherever you see this icon.

3 Can I find e-books or audiobooks in the library s online catalog? Yes, but you cannot borrow them from there. The record only shows that a copy exists. Copy availability, download & check out is only possible through the OverDrive website.

4 What do you need? A library card from the Hershey Public Library, Middletown Public Library, Cumberland County Library System, Dauphin County Library Systems, Bloomfield Public Library, Community Library of Western Perry, Marysville-Rye Library Association, and Newport Public Library. A password to access your library account (which will also be your OverDrive password). A computer, e-reader or a mobile device. Free software or app, or your Amazon account, or Adobe account information.

5 Having a problem with access? Checklist. Your library account s registration is current. (Updated every two years.) You have the correct pin. You do not have a library fine in excess of $4.99, or any other block on your account. Choose the correct library in the dropdown box that matches your card.

6 Read e-books on your Windows and MAC computer. Option 1. Use Overdrive Read to read e-books in a web browser on your computer without downloading an app. Requires Wi-Fi to access. Same reading experience. Click this option when you borrow. Option 2. With an Adobe ID and a free download of Adobe Digital Editions, read EPUB and PDF e- books on your computer.or.

7 Read e-books on your computer. (E-Readers and mobile devices are not necessary). Option 3. Get the Amazon Kindle Reading app to read Kindle books. This is available for computers & multiple devices. Access via your Amazon account information. Via Amazon's Whispersync technology, sync across devices.

14 ebooks Formats EPUB ebook Kindle Book PDF ebook - works well with static layout with set page breaks. PDFs work well with graphic novels, illustrated ebooks, and other titles with specific formatting. PDF ebooks can be downloaded on a computer using Adobe Digital Editions, or a mobile device with OverDrive. Open PDF ebooks cannot be returned early on a MAC. Open EPUB ebook compatible with more ereaders. Overdrive Read not available for e-ink devices, 1 st generation Kindle Fire, or Kindle Paperwhite.

15 Overdrive is a free download as a desktop app for computers. To listen to MP3 audiobooks Windows 7, Vista, XP and MAC computers. For reading EPUB e-books and listening to MP3 audiobooks on computers with Windows 8 and 10.

18 Adobe ID If required, mobile devices and computers must authorize the Overdrive Media Console with the same Adobe ID to download EPUB e-books. Go to if you don t already have an Adobe ID.

19 Amazon Kindle Reading App Read Kindle books other than on a Kindle device. Download the Kindle Reading app available for android devices, ipad, iphone, ipod Touch, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Kindle Cloud Reader, as well as Windows and MAC computers stated earlier. Access via your Amazon account information.

20 Amazon E-ink Kindle or Kindle Paperwhite. These devices don t require an app. Browse on a computer, follow the checkout prompts to get e-books via the Amazon account that the device is registered with. E-books will download to your device once connected to Wi-Fi, or USB cable. Note: Adobe Digital Editions is not for e-ink Kindle.

21 Barnes & Noble e-ink Nook (1) This device doesn t require an app. You need an Adobe ID. How do you get one? On your computer, go to (The ID is the address and password you decide to set.)

22 Barnes & Noble e-ink Nook (2) Download software called Adobe Digital Editions from Overdrive Help to your computer. Authorize your mobile device and your computer with the same Adobe ID. Browse for EPUB e-books on a computer, download to the software and then e- books may be transferred to supported devices via Wi-Fi, or USB cable.

23 Why do I need this software called Adobe Digital Editions? To read on MAC computers, e-ink Barnes & Noble Nook, or Windows computers (up to Windows 7). Adobe Digital Editions must be authorized by an Adobe ID. To troubleshoot Adobe ID issues: OVERDRIVE HELP, type in Adobe ID in the search box. Needed to transfer e-books from Windows 10 OverDrive app to an e-reader.

24 Kindle Fire, Fire HD, and Fire HDX OverDrive Media Console app. Read EPUB e-books Listen to MP3 audiobooks Authorize the app with an Adobe ID Note: First generation Kindle Fire download the Kindle Reading app and use your Amazon ID to authenticate. Device registration must match amazon (ID) account information to download e- books. No OverDrive read available.

34 Transferring and burning - Help MP3 audiobooks can transfer to ios devices, most cell phones, MP3 players & some e-books readers. Yes, and burn to CD.

35 Audiobooks Digital Rights Information Select any audiobook and scroll down to click Digital Rights Information to see what is permitted.

36 Information on transferring audiobooks from a computer to a mobile device, burning to a CD, or returning early. Overdrive Help>CATEGORIES - Audiobooks.

37 What else is possible? Create an OverDrive account. In OverDrive Help, click Sync your libraries, saved searches, and reading or listening position across multiple devices on your phone and on your tablet with an OverDrive account. You must download the OverDrive app to each device for syncing.

38 More about syncing with OverDrive account You need to use the latest version of the OverDrive app for Android, ios (iphone/ipad/ipod touch), or Windows 8 and 10. The titles you wish to sync must also be downloaded on each device. Syncing is not available for older computers, older Kindle, Nook and Sony e-readers, or Windows phone.
