3 1. Definition of the structure of the website During the KOM in Nice, partners agreed on the following points to be included in the website: a. A general description of Project aims and objectives, activities and progress reports; b. Dedicated pages per each workpackage; c. Calendar and information on project events (e.g. SOLIBAM stakeholder congresses) and outreach activities organised by individual partners (e.g. field trials, farm days, producer workshops); d. A picture of Europe with all the field trials and with the possibility of clicking on each of them and display the characteristics of the farm and its agroecological zone; e. The complete list of partner organizations and collaborators (including contact details, logos and web site-links); f. A specific area of the website where to include information and articles produced or published by partners; g. A clear link to the project bi-annual newsletters and press releases; h. A clear and easy link to the collaborative workspace managed by INRA Transfer; i. The possibility of adding during the updating of the website links to (genetic) resources and other outputs created by the project; j. A user-friendly response options to gather online feedback. Moreover, as stated in the DOW, the partners agreed that the website will be managed and updated in order to target four stakeholder groups: 1. Farmers, cooperatives, extension services; 2. Research institutes and in particular crop genetics and breeding institutes/companies, 3. Food processing industries, 4. Other stakeholder groups such as environmental legislators (European Commission and national governments), consumer groups and NGO s. AIAB, according to these rules: A. Acquired the name registered by AIAB on behalf of the SOLIBAM project; B. Decided to use the free space on its own server to host the website, so it could be maintained also after the end of the project without major costs; 3

4 C. Started preparing a first template having as a reference the logo chosen during the KOM for colours and font of the website. 2. Definition of the platform AIAB decided to use an open source content management system (CMS) so as to develop a dynamic website that could be at the same time managed by different partners and to reduce the cost for the acquisition of the software. The CMS chosen is an upgrade of the ImpressCMS is a community XOOPS system called ImpressCMS, that has at the developed Content Management moment enough developers, which is a guarantee of constant upgrading of the platform in the time. System. With this tool maintaining the content of a website becomes as easy This CMS allows also to have different users of the website and AIAB in agreement with the partners developed the following users: a. Webmaster, the person that can modify all the pages of the website and add and delete users; b. Registered users, people that register directly to the website and then receive the newsletter and can access to restricted pages. They can also add comment to specific section of the website (e.g. the photo album and documents); c. Partners, each partner has a specific user name and password and can not only have access to restricted pages but also add information and pages in the following sections: a. Calendar; b. News and articles; c. Photo album; d. Forum; e. Partners. as writing a word document. The system is highly scalable and is extremely useful for managing online communities because it has the ability to create user groups and assign permissions for managing content to each different group. For each type of website ImpressCMS offers different functionality with a collection of hundreds of free modules. ImpressCMS is free open source software in the full meaning of the word. It is available for free and anyone can use it and modify it to their own extend. The system is based upon the award winning content management system XOOPS, which has known a strong reputation and a long development history. d. Non-registered users, people that can navigate the website without any access to restricted pages and possibility of modifying the website. 4

5 3. Structure of the website The SOLIBAM website has the following modules I. Calendar; II. News and articles; III. SOLIBAM Documents; IV. Photo album; V. Contact form; VI. Partners. VII. An automatic generator of newsletter. It will be possible, according to the project s need, adding an on line forum. All the information on the website could be categorized by WPs, in order to sort it out in the different pages automatically. In the homepage we implemented the following blocks in order to have a facilitated access to the different modules: a. Recent documents; b. Recent news and articles; c. Slide show; A specific section on the right of the home includes: a. The search module; b. The main menu; c. The login; d. The direct link to the website Organic reprints and to the internal website managed by Inra transfer. At the moment we have developed only a page for each workpackage, that could be updated and developed further, and a general description of the project with the following picture of the structure of the project. 5
