3 The sorrows of a CIO Franco Genoli is the CIO of a large Swiss company and is not having an easy time at present. His stakeholders are demanding a great deal from him and his IT. Every year you use up your entire budget for the operation of your IT. However, you should also be able to pay for your IT infrastructure with these funds. IT becomes a profit center and a service provider. Integration System bus for networking Elastic: With Cloud services, the IT capacity can be elastically scaled up or down «on demand» within a few seconds to a few hours thanks to full automation. Shared resources: For Cloud services, the IT infrastructure forms a shared pool from which IT resources can be obtained flexibly in line with demand. The utilization of the entire IT infrastructure thus increases by more than 40 percent. Web/Internet Internet technologies: Thanks to the Internet, today s world is mobile and connected. Cloud services use this powerful characteristic of the Internet in order to give the end users the possibility of accessing their data from anywhere. 5
