Christian views Dominion: control, or the exercise of control; sovereignty : the responsible overseeing and protection of something considered worth caring for and preserving / the sacred duty of humans to take care of the world.

Genesis 1:26 Christian Dominion Then God said, Let us make man in our image. There is something of God in each person. Humans are the pinnacle of creation and therefore in charge of creation.

Genesis 1:27 Christian Dominion God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves up on the earth. Humans were given the responsibility from God to rule over what He had created and populate the earth.

Luke 12:6 Christian Dominion But the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. Humans are the pinnacle of creation and therefore in charge of creation.

Luke 12: 15, 23, 24 Christian Beware and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does life consist of his possessions. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Using the earth s resources unnecessarily, or for greed are the consequences of a selfish heart. Jesus taught that we should put others first and have a heart of compassion.

Luke 12:6 Christian Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God s sight. The world that God created is very special and should be taken care of.

Genesis 6:19-21 Christian God said, you are to bring into the ark two of every kind of living creature, male and female, to keep them alive with you. Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and them. Noah did everything just as God commanded. God told Noah to preserve creation. We should follow that example today.

Psalm 24:1 Christian The earth and everything in it is the Lord s. God created the earth and we should respect His creation and take care of it as we would take care of a special gift.

Pope Jean Paul II Christian Respect for life extends to the rest of creation. Everything in God s creation should be cared for.

Pope Jean Paul II Christian More than ever, individually and collectively, people are responsible for the future of the planet. We all have a role to play in the preservation of the earth.

St Basil Christian I want to awake in you a deep admiration for creation, until anywhere thinking of plants and flowers, you are overcome by thoughts of the Creator. Everything in creation reflects God s power and creativity.

Operation Noah Christian Launched in 2004, Operation Noah was the first Christian campaign to focus exclusively on the urgent need to address the global climate crisis. Our campaigning work is our practical response to he Ash Wednesday Declaration. The current campaign, Bright Now, is to persuade the Churches in the UK to disinvest from fossil fuel companies. We are working with other Christian organisations on a Year of Prayer for climate change during

Impermanence and Karma Buddhism The Buddhist stress on impermanence reminds us that our bodies and the world are subject to the endlessly-changing processes of nature. Karma and rebirth suggest that actions have a result and this is shown in the state of the earth

The Diamond Sutra teaches Buddhism - The Diamond Sutra teaches sentient and nonsentient beings are all connected. Humans are made entirely of non-human elements, such as plants, minerals, earth, clouds, and sunshine. - If the environment is destroyed, humans will be destroyed too. - Protecting human life is not possible without also protecting the lives of animals, plants and minerals.

The First Precept Buddhism Do not harm any living thing. Practice of the First Precept requires respect for all sentient beings, not only human beings. The first precept has also implied respect for plants: sometimes plants are described as onefacultied, having some of the sensitivity of animals through the sense of touch alone.

The Second Precept Buddhism Do not to take things that belong to others, unless these have been freely given. If one takes things from nature which are required by future generations, this might well be seen as taking the not freely given - consuming beyond one s own immediate needs and taking resources that later generations will need.

Tanha (greed/craving): one of the 3 poisons Buddhism It is greed or craving (tanha) which leads us to take more than we need for simple and straightforward living and causes suffering. The monastic life in Buddhism gives a model for what simple living without too much consumption might look like. This creates an environment where there is less likelihood of craving and greater likelihood of contentment.

Use the eightfold path (right intention) to find the Middle Way Buddhism Real life environmental issues are a constant matter of compromise and negotiation. Not all activities which use natural resources or release pollution are a result of greed. Buddhists may thus end up with various compromises which take environmental issues seriously, but nevertheless do not result in complete purity in environmental matters. This fits in with the general Buddhist perception that ethics is not about gaining purity so much as following through a right intention.

Thich Nhat Hanh Buddhism Aware of the suffering caused by the destruction of life, I undertake to cultivate compassion and learn ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. I am determined not to kill, not to let others kill, and not to condone any act of killing in the world, in my thinking, and in my way of life. Life is precious. It is everywhere, inside us and all around us; it has so many forms.

The Dalai Lama said Buddhism Destruction of nature and natural resources results from ignorance, greed, and lack of respect for the earth s living things This lack of respect extends to future generations who will inherit a degraded planet. Our selfishness and hatred will effect the survival of our future generations. We should avoid the 3 poisons.

The Dalai Lama said Buddhism The earth is not only the common heritage of all humankind but also the ultimate source of life. We are all bound together in One world both humanity and Dharma (nature)

The Dalai Lama said Buddhism Conservation is not merely a question of morality, but a question of our own survival. We are all bound together in One world both humanity and Dharma (nature)
