1 Page1 JAZZ UP PRESENTATIONS WITH GRAPHICS AND CHARTS TOO! PwerPint benefits frm the judicius use f graphics, animatins and transitins. Graphics include WrdArt bjects, clip art, phts, and AutShapes. WORD ART Yu can perk up a presentatin's title fr example; by creating it as a WrdArt bject. Click n the Insert tab Then click n the WrdArt buttn Duble-click a style t chse it and display the Edit WrdArt Text dialg bx. Type in yur text Click OK. TO REVISE YOUR WORDART: Select it, Right click n the text Chse then Frmat Text Effects. The Frmat Text Effects Dialg Bx gives yu lts f ptins fr adding effects t yur text. These include text fill, text utline, utline style, shadwing, 3-D frmatting 3-D rtatin and text bx ptins. ADDING GRAPHICS PICTURES AND CLIP ART Every PwerPint slide shw benefits frm the additin f images. Text withut supprting images will make fr bring and lifeless presentatin. Hwever, all selectins shuld be apprpriate and nt verdne. Objects that can be inserted include: Pictures that yu have created and saved t yur cmputer, Clip Art that was installed with the prgram r that is available nline, Phtgraphs that can be displayed in a Pht Album, Varius Shapes t pin pint r highlight text r t indicate flw, SmartArt a 2007 additin f graphics, and Charts created frm data frm an Excel Spreadsheet. PICTURES Click the Insert tab and click Picture. The Insert Picture windw will allw yu t chse a picture saved smewhere n yur cmputer. Once the picture is inserted, yu can change the size r shape f it

2 Page2 by grabbing n the handles r by getting the 4 headed arrw tl t mve it n the screen. Als, the Picture Tls tab will nw appear in the ribbn with many ptins fr editing yur image. The Picture tab in the Ribbn ffers the fllwing functinality: Adjust Yu can change the brightness, cntrast, reclr, change r reset the picture, as well as cmpressing it (mre n this later.) Picture style - Allws users t change the shape, brder, rientatin, pictures effects, including rientatin and 3-D effects. Arrange -- This is the sectin where yu can place ne image slightly n tp f anther, r behind anther r sme text. Yu can als align bjects with each ther and distribute them evenly bth vertically and hrizntally n a page. Yu can als display gridlines t insure even placement. Yu can grup images tgether r rtate them n an axis. Size - Set a specific size (height r width) r crp yur image t remve parts f it yu dn t wish t include. SHAPES Even the mst nn artistic individual can include stars, cubes, banners and arrws in a slideshw using the Shapes functinality. INSERT AND ADJUST SHAPES In the Hme tab. Select the Drawing grup. Click Shapes. Chse a shape frm the selectin r click n the drp dwn arrw t get mre ptins. Click and drag in the drawing area t create the shape. Once the shape is created, yu can adjust it using the bject s cntrl handles Click n any f the crner handles t enlarge r reduce the size f yur image withut distrting it. [Figure 1] Clicking n and dragging any f the handles in the center f the rectangle with distrt the prprtins as needed. Click n the yellw handles and it will allw yu t change the prprtins f selected parts f the shape, nt the entire shape. [Figure 2] Click n the little green handle t rtate the bject. 3 Page3 ADD TEXT TO SHAPES Yu can als add text t yur shapes t emphasize r label yur pints. Just insert the shape as described abve and then start typing. Nte the blinking insertin pint in Figure 4. T adjust the shape r text If the text verflws the shape bundaries Right click n the shape Select Frmat Shape Click n Text Bx In the Autfit sectin chse frm the ptins: D nt autfit Shrink text n verflw Resize shape t fit text. Click clse when yu have made yur selectin. The Frmat Shapes Text Bx has multiple ptins fr adjusting the appearance f yur shapes which are wrth investigating. An example f this is using special fill effects in yur shape. Select yur shape Navigate t the Drawing grup in the Hme tab f the ribbn. Click n the drp dwn arrw next t Shape Fill in this grup. Yu can select frm the standard theme clrs, n fill, mre fill clrs, a picture, gradient r texture. Als available frm the Drawing grup is the ability t add effects t the Shape Outline r dimensinality with the Shape Effects ptin. Experiment with the varius ptins until yu find the effects that are the mst pleasing t yu. These ptins are als available by right clicking n yur shape and selecting the Frmat Shape ptin. TIP - YOU CAN PAINT THE FORMAT OF YOUR FILL INTO OTHER SHAPES IN YOUR PRESENTATION. Use the Frmat Painter t apply sme f the frmatting that yu just applied t yur shape t anther shape.

4 Page4 Select the bject whse frmatting yu want t cpy. Click the Frmat Painter in the Clipbard grup f the Hme tab. Click n the bject t which yu want t apply the frmatting. T keep the Frmat Painter active s yu can apply frmatting t multiple bjects, select the bject and then duble-click the Frmat Painter. Yur cursr will change t a brush with an arrw. Click n the shape(s) t which yu want t apply the frmatting. T turn ff the Frmat Painter, click n the buttn n the ribbn a secnd time. PHOTO ALBUMS Inserting a pht album in a PwerPint Slide Shw is a very easy way t create a slide shw f yur favrite pictures. It allws yu t select multiple pictures fr yur shw in ne step, rather than inserting them ne at a time. Open a new presentatin Click n the Insert Tab Select Pht Album new Pht Album. The Pht Album dialg bx will pen. In Album Cntent click n File/Disk t navigate t the lcatin where yu stred yur phts. Chse yur Phts and click Insert. The Pht Album dialg bx will nw display a list f numbered Pictures in Album with a Preview. Optins include: Insert a new text bx this will pen a blank slide. Captins belw all pictures All pictures in black and white. The ptins belw the Picture Preview will allw yu t make small changes t each picture as yu select it in the list such as rtating r remving an image, as well as adding brightness cntrls. Album layut n the bttm half f the dialg bx allws yu t select Fit t Slide r t include multiple pictures per slide. Yu can als select the Theme r backgrund fr yur presentatin. Click Create when yu are dne. Edit yur shw as desired.

5 Page5 CHARTS Adding a Chart in PwerPint is fairly straightfrward. In fact, when yu click t enter a chart, Excel will pen in a separate windw with the chart data highlighted. T add a chart: Click n the slide in which yu want t create a chart. Click n the Chart icn n the screen. An Insert Chart Dialg Bx will display. Click n the type f chart that best suites the data that yu want t display. Yur screen will split. The chart will appear n yur slide in PwerPint. Excel will pen with the cntents f that chart highlighted. The Chart Tls tab in the Ribbn will als pen. T edit the cntent f the chart in Excel, click n Edit Data in the Data grup. Yur editing will be dne in the Excel spreadsheet that pened. As yu edit the chart, the changes appear n yur PwerPint slide. Yu can turn any data int a chart Highlight yur data in Excel. Click n the Insert tab in the Ribbn. Navigate t the Charts grup and select the type f chart that yu want. Click n Insert. The chart will nw appear in yur Excel spreadsheet. Highlight that chart in Excel and Cpy it (Ctrl+C) Open yur PwerPint shw and paste (Ctrl+V) the chart int yur slide. T edit, frmat, etc., click n the data. The Excel spreadsheet will pen. As yu edit in Excel, the changes will be reflected n yur PwerPint slide.
