4 Objectives of the SPI-Water Cluster To ease access and support the uptake of environmental research results and technologies To promote the use of FP research results in the definition of national, EU and international policies

5 Methodology BY: Identifying: FP environmental projects and results with high EU added value Research priorities and environmental policy gaps Disseminating: Through a series of innovative media channels At national and/or international levels Towards targeted audiences of policy makers, researchers and the industry (including SMEs)

6 STREAM Water research meets policy and industry A diversified series of dissemination and communication actions and tools available: Technology and Policy Watch (factsheets of projects and policies) Training activities (2 Summer Schools and 4 e-learning modules) Policy seminars (3 policy seminars and a Final EP Symposium) Audiovisual materials (5 films, 10 interviews, 7 webinars) Online tools (website, newsletter, social media, downloadable material)

7 Lessons learned Communication of research results necessitates an integrated approach Various types of communication actions and tools complementing each other within a communication strategy The tools and actions should be tailored and diversified according to the various types of stakeholders Transforming the scientific content into an accessible language is a MUST Creating synergies between different groups of stakeholders paves the way for success in scientific communication

8 STEP-WISE Science, Technology and Policy Interfacing using WISE-RTD Main goal = enhancement of the WISE-RTD Water Knowledge Portal for bridging the communication gap between policy, science and industry WISE-RTD is a guiding switch board towards information on water research, policies, experiences,

9 Lessons learned Continuing efforts are needed to translate information from research and to structure its sharing in order to improve its uptake Different types of stakeholders need to be addressed in their own language and guided towards information from the other side of the Science-Policy-Industry gap to create mutual understanding and synergy WISE-RTD can play a role as intermediator in this, but in future, each research project needs to streamline their dissemination (e.g. by linking it in WISE-RTD) and maintain their information (e.g. websites)

10 WaterDiss2.0 Dissemination and uptake of FP water research outputs Development of an analysis tool focused on research outputs: the Individual Dissemination strategy (IDS) Facilitation of the European Water Community, a communication platform dedicated to : Researchers to promote their work and ensure it reaches the operational area Practioners to access the appropriate tools/methods to fulfill their needs More information on -
