2 York Crisis Pregnancy Center 613 Grant Avenue York, NE 362-CARE (24-Hour Hotline) Dear Friends, Since 1995, when the York Crisis Pregnancy Center opened, many women have received help here at the Center at a critical time in their lives. The community has been very generous in supplying the Center with gently used and new items and with monetary donations. God has blessed this work, and the York Crisis Pregnancy Center is filling an important need in the community. In 2005, it became apparent that there were many areas in which the Center could be of service, but we were unable to move as we wished with only volunteer help. We were advised by Pat McCarthy at the busy Lincoln Crisis Center to hire a paid part-time administrator to coordinate the work of our volunteers and to move necessary programs forward. God brought Laura Miller to us at that time. Since then, exciting developments have been moving the work of the Center into new areas and making our ministry even more vital and effective. Our visibility in the community has increased, and with that has come a much greater use of the facility and the CARE Hotline. Besides providing pregnancy tests and items for Baby and Mother, we have been able to help girls - and their guys - to consider alternatives to abortion -- including adoption -- and to consider positive changes in their lifestyles. We are able to pray with out clients and to help them see the value of a close relationship with Christ in their lives. We have implemented an Earn While You Learn program, which gives us repeated follow-up with our clients as they better prepare themselves by learning parenting skills and looking at their long-range goals. In exchange, they earn Mommy Money to spend for new baby items and for cribs and other equipment. Future goals include implementing programs for training for abstinence and dealing with post-abortion syndrome through a Bible study for those who desire this. The Center is totally funded by donations from the community. The people and organizations of the York area have been very generous, but our current income is not enough to sustain the program. 3 York Crisis Pregnancy Center Vision Campaign to Reach the Greater York Area The Problem: According to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services statistics, a total of 522 abortions were performed in Lincoln/Lancaster County in the year The number of these nearby abortions represents more than the student population in grades 9-12 at the York High School in While the county of residence of these women who have had abortions is not available, we know that many women from York County are included in the above statistics. The abortion industry in Lincoln has positioned itself to become the primary provider of young women s sexual health and pregnancy needs. The Lincoln abortion industry is: Well funded by service fees and government money Located strategically within the community Enjoying national name recognition Providing comprehensive services An increasing number of women in Nebraska are making the abortion providers their first choice when faced with pregnancy-related concerns. This is why nearly two babies are lost every day to abortion in Lincoln/Lancaster County. Abortion has ended the lives of thousands of children here in Nebraska, but it has also left a trail of devastated women who suffer the emotional, physical, and psychological effects of abortion. Many of these women struggle for years with guilt, intense grief, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, flashbacks, sexual dysfunction, relationship difficulties, increased alcohol usage and drug abuse.

5 Our Mission The York Crisis Pregnancy Center is uniquely positioned to be the first choice provider for young women s sexual health and pregnancy needs. This can be accomplished through the development of comprehensive services and networking with local medical providers that is currently taking place in our area. Unlike in larger cities, the York Crisis Pregnancy Center is the sole recognized provider of Christ-centered, life-affirming services to those with pregnancy-related concerns. This unique position allows the York Crisis Pregnancy Center to compete directly with abortion providers in nearby cities. The Vision Campaign to Reach the Greater York Area is an initiative to significally reduce the number of abortions in this area and to support clients and their babies. It is the goal of the York Crisis Pregnancy Center to be the first choice of women with pregnancy related needs by providing professional, convenient, and comprehensive services.

6 Where We Stand Today: Supply Room Counseling Room The York Crisis Pregnancy Center moved to its present location at 613 Grant in November of This location is conveniently located on a downtown street in York. It has the further advantage of sharing an outer door with the apartments above, providing anonimity to clients who wish to keep their visit confidential. The York Crisis Pregnancy Center has been serving the needs of women with pregnancy-related concerns since Phase One - Present Services: free pregnancy testing providing infant and maternity clothing and supplies forming a relationship with our clients in an on-going effort to help them deal with their complex problems providing positive alternatives and support promotion of the adoption option promotion of sexual integrity for unmarried sexually active clients ministering to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our clients sharing the Gospel and praying with clients connecting clients with other available community services networking with other community health-care providers to promote our programs and utilize theirs sponsoring the annual Life Chain in October promoting abstinence and visibility for the Center through working with local churches to provide bulletin inserts for Sanctity Sunday in January informing the community of our services through various media outlets and posters a 24-hour hotline Training interns needing hands-on contact for college courses

7 Phase Two - Programs and Services Currently Being Implemented: z Earn While You Learn -- a program that allows clients to participate in the acquisition of new baby clothes and supplies including cribs and furniture. This program gives the Center the opportunity to expand its contact with clients in order to educate and support them, and to help meet their particular needs z Coordinating the involvement of the Center s volunteers z Working with York College to promote abstinence through participation in an annual Wellness Fair there and in coordinating with the York College nurse to provide services and training information z Setting up an Advisory Board with local community leaders to provide visability and promotion for the Center and to receive their input and suggestions for our work z Having a part-time paid administrator with the passion and skills to coordinate the involvement of our volunteers, guide existing and new programs, meet with community leaders, and provide vision and leadership for the work of the Center z Implement a Vision Campaign to attempt to provide a broader base of financial support and vision for the Center s programs z Meeting with area churches, organizations, ministerial alliances in York and the surrounding areas, and individuals to maintain and increase community financial and physical support for the Center z Increasing advertising in all types of media outlets to make sure that the community is aware of the Center and its service z Seeking possible grants to help support our work z Baby Bottle and Dresser Fundraisers in local churches

8 Phase Three - Programs and Services to Be Added: The implementation of the following are dependent on the development of additional finances and volunteers: Help for the woman who s had an abortion -- development of a Bible study program or other appropriate interaction with women seeking to recover from the anguish of having had an abortion Abstinence education/presentations in the local schools of the area -- possibly bringing in an effective speaker, as we did many years ago -- or developing our own program for this purpose Explore the possibility of working with the York Women s Development Center. Establish contact people in local churches as a liason for fundraising and activities. Enlistment and training of additional volunteers.
