1 Phi Sigma Sigma New Member Education Schedule Sisterhood Development Chair: Gina Morrello Fall 2015 *All events will occur in the Phi Sigma Sigma house unless otherwise stated* *New members will not be required to go to any activities unless required for the entire chapter* Recruitment Week: September 7-12 September 12 th : Bid Day! Time- 10:00 am All members will meet at the Phi Sig house in the morning to prepare to meet the new members. After receiving new member list the sisters will be assigned a Bid Day Buddy who will spend time with them throughout the day s events to ensure they have someone to spend time with. Seniors will meet the new members at the CA with roses, balloons, and bid day shirts. All will return to the house to meet the juniors and begin the day s activities. These will include pictures, pizza, and an ice breaker for the group to play to get to know one another. After ice breakers the new members will meet with the Archon and Sisterhood Development Chair (SDC) to begin a description of the anti hazing policy, given their binders with their new member schedule and other Phi Sig info, and a chance to explain the SDC s role in their NME process. * for new members and SDC* Time- 1:00 Location- Moyer Hall All new members will report to the Omega project to learn about Anti-hazing *optional bonding activity* Time- 7:00 Location- AMF Lanes Allentown Sisters and new members will bond during a night of bowling to celebrate and welcome them to Phi Sig. September 13 th : Sisterhood Night Time: 8:00 Sisters will be invited to the Phi Sig house to spend time with the new members by watching movies and playing ice breakers like, Tap someone who. This game will be played with the entire chapter. All girls will sit with their eyes closed as selected sisters stand and are told to tap someone who they..think is a leader, want to get to know better, were excited to see on bid day etc. This is meant to ensure new members that we are so excited they are part of their chapter and remind them that they are special.

2 September 14 th : Chapter meeting, Phi-sigology night 1 (core values), Exec and Committee head descriptions Time- 5:30 Location- Great Room At their first chapter meeting new members will receive their pins from their Rose Sister. Until the new members receive their Sapphire Sister (big) they will use their rose sister as a mentor as they become adjusted to being in a sorority. During this ceremony new members will learn the importance of the pin and what it represents. New members will arrive at the house for their first official new member meeting. First, the new members will meet with the executive board and committee head members so they can learn more about their roles in Phi Sig and ask any questions about formal chapter meetings. After, the new members will learn their first set of Phi-Sigology (facts about the sorority as described in the reflections book) in a game called Bring it to me. The SDC will break the new members into teams and tell representatives from each team a phi sig fact which they will report back to their team, afterwards the teams will search the house for a representation of the fact they just learned (ex. Our stone is the sapphire, new members could find something blue) This will begin bonding the new member class as a team while teaching them information about the sorority. September 15 th : Billhighway, Phi Sig website Lindsey and Alisha will come talk with the new members about dues and how to pay them as well as scholarship opportunities for new members. Daryll and Kim will also address how to enter information on the Phi Sig website. After the new members will play Maze to help them learn how to work together. September 16 th : Pass and Share New members will be asked to bring an item they feel is a representation of who they are. They will then spend time as a new member class playing pass and share and if they feel comfortable they will explain their item they brought to their new member class and why they feel it is important. After, new members will spend time reviewing information from Phi-Sigology with the SDC. September 21 st : Chapter Meeting, Phi-Sigology round 2 Time-5:30 Location- Great Room

3 Weekly chapter meeting for all sisters. More Phi-Sig facts! This week new members will learn all about the beginning of Phi Sig including our founding sisters, where Phi Sig was founded, etc. To do this, older sisters will teach them songs as a way to remember the information and have fun together. Afterwards, new members will be given a letter from their Phantom Phi, a senior sister they will receive anonymous letters from and write to, to ask questions about Phi Sig throughout their NME process. September 22 nd : Big little speed dating, unwrap the phi sig present All sisters who will be taking a little will be invited to the house to begin the process of making connections with the new members on a more personal level. Question sheets will be given to all sisters to help with discussion. Sisters will rotate from new member to new member getting to know each other and setting up potential coffee dates. This will create an opportunity for all the new members to get to know their potential bigs in a lighthearted, quick way, and help them familiarize themselves with the older sisters they may still be getting to know. Afterwards the new members will play a game in which they will unwrap a present with multiple layers of questions about the phi-sigology they have learned thus far. They will pass the present as music plays and when the music stops the new member holding the present will unwrap a layer and answer the question. This will be a quick game to help reiterate the information they have already learned. September 24 th : Fear bracelets New members will sit in a circle and be given a pile of beads. If they feel comfortable sharing, the new member will explain one of her fears and each member will add a bead to their bracelet as a representation of the courage each new member had to share with her sisters. September 28 th : Chapter, Jepoardy! Time- 5:30 pm Location- Great Room Weekly chapter meeting for all members To continue in their understanding of Phi-Sigology, the new members will play jeopardy to help them learn new Phi Sig facts and remind them of information they already learned. This activity will split the members up into teams of four and they will play a traditional game of jeopardy (minus the wagering), Phi Sig style.

4 September 29 th : A night with the Alpha Rhos Time- 9:00pm As big little night grows closer, a night with the junior sisters will allow the new members to keep building relationships with their future bigs. The junior class picks a light hearted icebreaker/getting to know you game, approved by the SDC, which will be played with the juniors and new members. October 5 th : Phi-Sigology (local) Time- 9:00pm Before joining a family tree themselves, it is important that the new members have an understanding of the current family lines in our chapter. They will play a game called Name that family where they will be given clues about family names, people in that family line, etc. and will guess which family based off the given clue. As big little approaches, this will allow new members to feel more comfortable about the families they will soon be joining. This night will also give the new members to learn about some of the successful sisters of our chapter and about the girls who are abroad for the semester. October 6 th : A night with the Alpha Pis Similar to a night with the alpha rhos, this night will also involve an ice breaker chosen by the senior members that is approved by the SDC. This will help strengthen the relationship between the older and younger members of the chapter. October 7 th : House Warming Time- 8:00 pm Location- TBD On this night new members will be led around campus by the older sisters in groups of 4-5. They will go to respective locations on campus where sisters live. Sisters who choose to host will create a theme for their house whether it is a movie, location, or color. There will also be snacks. Like other activities the new members have done, this allows the new members to create more personal relationships with the girls on campus. This is also a way for girls living off campus to show the new members their homes and remind them that they are always welcome there. Each house will have a fun activity or ice breaker for the group to do together. Older sisters will lead the new members around campus to ensure they do not get lost going from one location to another. October 8 th : A night together This night will be an opportunity for the new members to decide on an activity they would all like to do together. The SDC will meet them at the Phi Sig house, but leave after they have picked an activity for the night so the girls can spend time bonding as a new member class. Suggestions for this night would be studying together, painting their nails, or watching a movie.

5 October 13 th : Phi Sig Today Time- 9:00pm More Phi-sigology (they just can t get enough!). This night will be all about learning about the important members on the current Phi Sig grand council, the Grand archon/vice archon, and other important positions in our chapter today. After reviewing this information with the new members they will be split into groups based on decade. The groups will use the information they ve learned as well as the internet to compile information about the decade they were assigned and what happened in phi sig that year. Once they have all their information, the new members will create a way to present this to their new member class (a skit, a song, a story). This will reiterate all the information they ve learned, present it in order, and create a different way of understanding all of the phi sig facts in context. October 14 th : Phantom Phi Reveal As mentioned earlier in the schedule, new members will receive a phantom phi who they will exchange anonymous letters with throughout their process. On this night the phantom phis will be revealed! Phantom phis will place clues around the house to help the new members find them and once they are united as a pair they phantom phi will spend the evening with them and present them with a gift. October 15 th : Looking Back on New Member Education As the week of the sphinx approaches and new member education comes to an end, the new members will be asked to consider what, if anything, they would change about their new member process. This is a time of reflection for the new members to celebrate how far they have come and talk about the highs and lows of their process. This night is to help reconnect them as they enter the week of initiation. October 16 th : Big Little Reveal! Time- TBD Bigs and littles will finally be united! The sapphire sister ceremony will be performed and families will take the night to spend time together for the first time. October 19 th -23 rd : The Week of the Sphinx Times: TBD October 24 th : Initiation Time: 9:00am Location: Hoffman House Other Activities to consider: Paddington Posses- These will be randomly assigned groups of girls from each year to eat meals together. In past years this has been done as a contest and points are rewarded if Paddington makes an

6 appearance, everyone wears Phi Sig apparel, and a selfie is taken at the table. These groups are random and allow the different grades to bond and eat a meal with someone they might not typically eat with. Clothing Swap- Everyone will bring clothing they no longer want to the Phi Sig house. For every piece of clothing a girl brings she gets a ticket. She can trade in her ticket and take a new piece of clothing or simply bring clothes to donate. All leftover clothes will be donated. Beach Ball Tell All- A fun icebreaker for everyone to play together, beach ball tell all is a game of catch with lots of questions. A beach ball with questions written all over it will be tossed around. Whoever catches the ball will read the question that their right thumb is touching. Then, they will throw the ball to someone else. Questions should be open ended to promote telling stories and help the new members get to know one another better. Autograph Chasers- This is another getting to know you game. A board will be made with different categories like family, food, entertainment, and physical traits. Each category will have statements like does not like pizza, loves Romantic Comedies, etc. The new members will try to get as many autographs as possible from other girls in a category they feel applies to them. Human Knot- This will be used for problem solving and communication skills. In this icebreaker the new members will stand in a circle starting in small groups of After given the signal to go, they will grab hands with the people that are not standing directly next to them. They will then figure out how to untangle their arms to get back into a circle. To make a greater challenge, the new members can do this as an entire group. *New members will talk to the scholarship chair about study hours and staying on top of school work during NME* *All sisters are invited to all nights of new member education* *The SDC has planned other nights for the sisterhood that are not marked on the schedule but all are encouraged to attend*
