4 Institutional Information for Reviewers History and Characteristics Founded by the Alabama Legislature in 1887, Troy University serves students in southeast Alabama through its residential campus in Troy, Ala., and through campuses that provide academic programs on weekends and evenings to adult students in Montgomery, Dothan, and Phenix City, Ala. In 1961, the institution responded to a request from the Department of Defense to provide college programs on military bases, leading to the university s presence on or near military bases around the world. Troy University s support for students in the military has provided the impetus for leadership in distance learning over the past 50 years. The University provides a seamless blend of distance learning and classroom delivery that enables a student to move around the globe and continue his or her work on an academic degree. Troy University strongly supports the economic development strategies of the State of Alabama through a growing emphasis on international programs that enable students in Alabama to study with students from around the world on the residential campus and that engages students in other countries in Troy s academic programs. In Alabama, Troy University is where East meets West. The University is proud to host the Republic of China s only Confucius Institute in Alabama and collaborates with partner institutions in several countries. With approximately 30,000 students enrolled around the world, Troy University is a leader in providing access to affordable higher education. 17 DISTANCE LEARNING Troy University offers associate degrees, baccalaureate degrees, and master s degrees online for its students. These distance learning programs, offered through earmyu and through Troy University s ecampus, may be completed entirely online. However, Troy University makes it possible for students to mix classroom courses from any of our campuses that are approved for a degree program with their online program to complete their degree. Conversely, students taking courses at any Troy University location can take a course through ecampus if it applies to their programs, if it more conveniently fits their schedules. For example, a student who is stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington and is taking courses at that location, may select to seamlessly switch over to earmyu courses if deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. A student working on a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice in Augusta, Ga. who needs a specific course to complete her degree, but has a conflict with her work schedule when the degree is offered, can take the course online. - earmyu Associate degrees: Business, General Education Baccalaureate degrees: Business, Criminal Justice, Resource Technology Management Master s degrees: none - ecampus Associate degrees: Business, General Education Baccalaureate degrees: Applied Computer Science, Business, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, Resource Technology Management, Social Science, Sport and Fitness Management Master s degrees: Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Human Resource Management, International Relations, Management, Public Administration, Post-Secondary Education Professional Accreditation Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) January 19, 2005 and August 1, 2006 Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) April 2, 2007 National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) October 24, 2004 National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) December 20, 2007 National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) August 13, 2003 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) January 27, 2007 Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) May 31, 2000 Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) April 22, 2004 Troy University has not received any sanctions or negative actions taken by any of these accrediting bodies during the past two years.
