Philosophy Growing good food using natural fertilizers and no pesticides, and building a relationship with the community through food. Fun Fact Hosts a Pumpkin Engraving in summer where people can engrave a name or saying onto a chosen pumpkin. As the pumpkin grows the words get bigger. Farmers markets, and in various school cafeterias through the Farm to School program. Fun Fact Kiwis grow on large vines, producing 150 lbs. per vine. Fruit forms only on female plants (usually 1 male is planted for every 8 female plants). Locally grown kiwi is available Halloween to Easter. Farmers Joy and Tim Barlogio, with daughters Becky and Mandy Farm Jack Creek Farms Location West of Paso Robles on Hwy 46 Farm Age Over 100 years; 5 generations of Barlogio s have farmed this property. Crops Pumpkins, vegetables, herbs, fruits, grain, and many products made from their crops. Where can I get their products? Their farm stand on Hwy 46. Tractor Caterpillar 30 Crawler, purchased new by a family member in 1932, is still used. Fun Fact Grandpa Barlogio spread sweet pea seeds along Hwy 46 sometime in the 1980s. They still come up every year in the late spring for everyone to enjoy. Farm Age 61 years; Rudy s father started the farm. Crops Vegetables like lettuce, leeks, beets; flowers, especially parrot tulips; and herbs. Where can I get his products? Farmers markets throughout the county, as well as in Santa Barbara and Ventura. Fun Fact Domingo Farms is a complete family operation with several generations of Domingos working the farm and attending farmers markets. How long has he been farming 28 years; Ikeda family has been in the county for four generations. Products Oriental vegetables, other salad greens; organic avocados. Where can I get his products? Grocery stores and restaurants marketed nationally. Family Philosophy To give back to the community through volunteering. Fun Fact One of five farming families in POVE (Pismo Oceano Vegetable Exchange), the number one Napa Cabbage grower in the world. 20 Where does my food come from? Farmer Brad Buckley Farm The Abalone Farm Location Cayucos Farm Size 18 acres; has 35 employees Farm Age 42 years; this is the oldest and largest abalone farm in US. Product Abalone; produces 100 tons; takes about 4 years to grow them to marketable size (3.5 4 inches). Where can I get his products? Giovanni s Fish Market in Morro Bay; also marketed throughout the US. Fun Fact Abalone have been around since the dinosaurs. Unlike oysters or clams, they have only one shell.
