The Managing Principal builds the market reputation and leads business development efforts which produce a sustainable stream of desirable consulting engagements. The Managing Principal grows the team capacity and capabilities in the Edmonton and Northern Alberta market, to deliver projects resulting in a high client satisfaction and referenceable clients. -2-
3 The Managing Principal reports into the Vice President, Western region. They are a key member of the Western Canada leadership group and are responsible to work within a collaborative team environment to achieve overall corporate success for Colliers Project Leaders. Managing Principals are given a high degree of delegated authority with which to carry out their responsibilities in an efficient and independent manner. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning: Work closely with Vice President, Western Business Unit to develop and implement a business plan with established goals, defined key strategic issues, and set objectives for operations in the region. Responsible for ensuring that all business development and marketing issues are addressed in the plan. -3-
4 Business Development: Clearly communicate the company s competitive advantages to key potential and existing clients. Focus on demonstrating strategic value. Leverage your market reputation and contact base to identify and win new, desirable consulting work. Gain an understanding of the local markets, and focus people and resources in the right areas to win work. Qualify and assess potential opportunities and clients. Lead project pursuits, joint venture and partnering efforts to win projects. Work with the business development team in planning for proposals or presentations. Client Relationship Management: Develop all client relationships in a manner consistent with Colliers Project Leaders client centric approach. Act as the client s key point of contact with Colliers Project Leaders. Maintain regular contact with key clients to ensure awareness of any issues and upcoming opportunities, and communicate those issues and opportunities to the appropriate personnel. Delivery Leadership: Ensure clients perceive they are receiving full value for Colliers Project Leaders services and fees. Oversee the delivery of all projects, through project teams, with an emphasis on client satisfaction, cost control, and profitability. Build credibility and trust with clients through individual expertise and team performance. Maintain governance across all projects, leading to greater risk mitigation and management. Lead the continuous improvement delivery processes and tools. Team Leadership: Set clear direction and performance targets for the team. Delegate authority and responsibility effectively across the team. Lead by example and actively mentor employees to excel in their discipline and roles. Dedicate the time and effort needed to identify, attract, and hire top talent in the market. Build an equal level of commitment of team managers to attract top talent and develop talent internally. Industry Involvement: Maintain familiarity with developments in the industry and the economic climate in markets served. With this knowledge, position the business to capitalize on emerging opportunities and to address relevant issues. Stay up to date on the activities of competitors. Develop networking relationships with joint-venture partners, and professional groups and associations, etc., and act as an ambassador of Colliers Project Leaders. Characteristics, Capabilities & Experience Character: Honest and straightforward in dealing with others, and a high level of professionalism. Responsible, committed, and accountable. Always acts with the utmost professional integrity and in the best interest of Colliers Project Leaders. Entrepreneurial Spirit: Understands and embraces risk in the pursuit of important achievements. Brings innovative thinking to opportunities and challenges, and fosters creativity. Leads pursuits (RFP, RFQ and proposals), and can gain the confidence of clients in interviews. Professional Experience: 15 years experience and a proven track record of success in operational and business development leadership, gained within the consulting service business (engineering, architecture or construction industries). 3+ years experience in a senior role leading and managing a consulting services business: business development, operations management and reporting, as well as people management; construction industries). Demonstrated ability to deliver a range of building development and/or infrastructure projects to clients over their career. Can provide strong client references. Education: Completion of a university degree in commerce, business administration, engineering, architecture, urban planning or a related discipline, with professional status, or an equivalent combination of academic and practical experience. PMP Designation and LEED Accreditation (or commitment to obtain). Business Development: Skilled at identifying new prospects and leads. Has a strong strategic sense of markets and opportunities. Possesses the presence, stature, confidence and ability to develop, maintain and build positive and productive long term relationships with clients. Has the market reputation, network, and business development skills that will produce a sustainable stream of desirable work within the public and private sectors. Project Delivery & People Leadership: Oversee and/or directly manage large and complex Colliers Project Leaders mandates to achieve client satisfaction and corporate/office objectives. Lead, recruit, coach, and develop a dedicated team of highly capable professionals, delivering unrivalled service and solutions to high profile clients. Interest and demonstrated ability in building the capabilities and capacity of teams, as well as successors for key roles. Knowledge Base: Brings an understanding and disciplined approach to all aspects of pre construction management from design to estimating. Has demonstrated a clear understanding of a broad range of engineering topics and has worked in one or more disciplines in construction management, design/build or project management activities. Has practical knowledge of government procurement practices, bid preparation and contracts. -5-
