How to block Pollen and House Dust Mites from causing allergy?

BLOX Allergy 2

A barrier that prevents pollen and house dust mites, etc. to reach the nasal mucosa Provides instant protection No preservatives Developed by Swedish physicians / ENT specialists 3

BLOX Allergy provides a physical protection of the nasal mucosa by a microemulsion that forms a protective barrier. Allergic reactions are thereby prevented when pollen, house dust mites or other particles enters the nose. BLOX4 Allergy gives an instant protection that lasts for several hours.

Introduction to Pollen and House Dust Mite allergy and the most common treatments Pollen allergy Pollen allergy affects around 15% of the Swedish population. Depending on the concentration of airborne pollen and the frequency of exposure, allergy symptoms vary between days and during the day. Pollen allergy symptomsare similar to symptoms of a common cold, with sneezing, water clear runny nose and nasal congestion. Fever is, however absent, but tiredness and concentration difficulties are common. Itchy and red eyes are also typical symptoms of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. Every second person with allergy has pollen allergy. Different types of trees, such as birch, alder, olives and hazel, as well as grass and mugwort often release pollen that cause allergic symptoms. Because plants shed pollen at different times during the year, the symptoms may start in early spring and continue until the autumn. Pollen allergy often starts in the teens with decreasing symptoms later in life. Symptoms are intensified by air pollution. House Dust Mite allergy House dust mites are tiny arachnids that need moisture, warmth and darkness to thrive. Dust mites normally live in textiles, where the bed is an optimal habitat. From their digestive tract, the dust mites excrete an enzyme that causes allergic symptoms in allergic subjects. The symptoms of dust mite allergy are similar to those of pollen allergy but there is often less eye symptoms. Allergy treatment Allergic rhinitis, which is caused by pollen and house dust mites, is an inflammatory condition induced by an allergic reaction in the nasal mucosa. A model for the treatment of allergic rhinitis has been developed by WHO, amongst others. This model explains the various methods of treatment of allergic rhinitis depending on the degree of symptoms. In the treatment steps (Fig. 1) one can see that allergen avoidance is the primary step for all degrees of allergy symptoms. Antihistamines are administered during milder symptoms. For more severe symptoms nasal cortisone spray is suggested. Eye drops with cromoglycate or antihistamine can be used when the eyes show allergy symptoms. Finally, immunotherapy (so called allergy vaccination) is an alternative during very severe and pronounced symptoms. 5

Treatment steps for allergic rhinitis Intermittent 2a 1 Mild Persistent 2b 2a Intermittent 1 Moderate/severe Persistent 2b Immunotherapy Cortisone (nasal) Antihistamine / Cromoglycate, chromone Avoid allergen BLOX4 Allergy Fig1. Treatment steps for allergic rhinitis The treatment steps describe the most common forms of treatment for allergic rhinitis based on severity and duration. BLOX4 Allergy acts as a protection against allergens and relieves nasal symptoms from mild to moderate/ severe allergies. 1) Severity of allergic rhinitis. 2) Duration of symptoms. 2a Intermittent: <4 days per week or <4 weeks, 2b Persistent: >4 days per week and > 4 weeks. BLOX4 Allergy BLOX4 Allergy is a medical device that has been developed by Swedish physicians/ allergy researchers. Through their patient encounters a need was identified for a protective barrier for the nasal mucosa that prevents nasal allergic symptoms. BLOX4 Allergy was developed to fulfil this need. BLOX4 Allergy acts as a protective barrier on the nasal mucosa which encapsulates airborne allergens 1,2,3 like pollen and house dust mites, etc. and thereby counteracts nasal allergic symptoms. 1. Andersson M, Greiff L, Wollmer P. Nasal treatment with a microemulsion reduces allergen challengeinduced symptoms and signs of allergic rhinitis. Acta Otolaryngologica 2008; 128: Ojeda P et al. Effects of a topical microemulsion in seasonal allergic rhinitis, 2012 Unpublished 3. Andersson M, Greiff L, Wollmer P. Effects of a topical microemulsion in house dust mite allergic rhinitis. Basic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol 2011; 108: Why BLOX4 Allergy? BLOX4 Allergy works in the range from mild to moderate/severe allergies and can therefore be used as a single treatment alternative for mild discomfort and as a base treatment supplemented with other anti-allergic treatments for severe allergies (Fig1). BLOX4 Allergy provides a physical protective barrier on the nasal mucosa and does not contain any active substance that affect the body. The effect of BLOX4 Allergy is immediate and lasts for several hours. BLOX4 Allergy does not contain any preservatives or active substances and can therefore be used by pregnant and lactating women. For adults and children over 6 years. 6

The function of BLOX4 Allergy on the nasal mucosa BLOX4 Allergy forms a thin membrane over the nasal mucosa that encapsulates allergens. BLOX4 Allergy Efficient nasal treatment to prevent both pollen and dust mite allergy. Immediate effect that lasts for several hours. No active substances that affect the body. Contains no preservatives. Developed by Swedish physicans. Can be used both as a prophylactic and immediately after exposure to allergens. Can be used by pregnant and lactating women. 7

BLOX Allergy Instructions 1. Blow your nose. 2. Remove the protective cap. Keep the bottle upright when using it. Pump a few times in a paper napkin until a jet occurs. Avoid spraying on fabrics or other surfaces since the product has a slightly "oily" consistency which can generate stains. Do not aim towards the eyes. 3. One dose/stroke (BLOX4 Allergy comes as a jet) in each nostril, 1-3 times daily. Aim outwards into the nostril, for best effect. BLOX4 Allergy provides an immediate barrier and maximum protection is reached within a few minutes. 4. What should you do if you have taken an excessive dos? - Blow out the excess. Product content & packaging BLOX4 Allergy, 200 doses. Medical device developed by Swedish physicians/allergy researchers. Glycerol monooleate, 1,2-propanediol, macrogol 400, sesame oil, polysorbate 80, menthol, eucalyptus and sodium chloride solution. (Also available without menthol and eucalyptus) Use before the expiration date on the package (3 years). Opened packs should be personalized and used within 3 months from the date of opening. Keep out of reach for children. Store at room temperature, protected from direct sunlight. If the solution is cloudy, this is because the product has been cooled down. The turbidity normally disappear if you keep the product at room temperature or warm the bottle in your hand. Read the leaflet before usage. For adults and children over 6 years. In case of severe allergy, BLOX4 Allergy will work as a supplement to ordinary treatment. Because BLOX4 Allergy acts as a protective barrier, any other nasal anti-allergy drugs should be taken before BLOX4 Allergy otherwise the effect of these can be reduced. What side effects can BLOX4 Allergy give? Transient mild stinging may occur ENG.v1. Bioglan AB part of Bioglan AB Borrgatan Malmö Sweden +46(0)
