2 Atlanta, Georgia, USA Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the state of Georgia as well as the urban core of one of the fastest- growing metropolitan areas in the United States. With one of the busiest real estate markets in America, Atlanta is the 8 th biggest city in the United States and home to 5.4 million people. Considered as a top business city and a transportation hub, Atlanta is the world headquarters of The Coca- Cola Company, AT&T Mobility, and Delta Air Lines. The surrounding area contains additional corporate headquarters, including Home Depot and UPS. Atlanta has the nation s third largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies, and more than 75% of the Fortune 1,000 companies have a presence in Atlanta metro.

Atlanta has a highly diverse base of employment. With nine fortune 500 company headquarters in the city, Atlanta ranks third in the number of Fortune 500 companies headquartered within city boundaries, behind New York City, Houston, and Dallas. This broad base creates much more economic stability for Atlanta than is experienced in many industrial cities that have become dependent on a small number of companies or industries. The city of Atlanta possesses very attractive housing affordability and cost of living, being ranked the #4 best major metropolitan area for both housing affordability and cost of living. The attractiveness of Atlanta as an affordable market makes it an ideal focal point for the next wave of economic growth, as young professionals flee from highly taxed and highly regulated markets. Infrastructure in Atlanta Average commute is minutes With a comprehensive network of freeways that radiate out from the city, residents rely on their cars as Interstate 285, a beltway locally known as the Perimeter which has come to mark the boundary

10 between the interior of the region and its surrounding suburbs, mostly encircles the dominant mode of transportation in the region Atlanta. Atlanta is the primary transportation hub for south- east United States. Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world s busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic and aircraft traffic. Delta Airlines and AirTran Airways have their largest hubs at the airport. Atlanta Beltline, a multi- billion dollar 25 year project to transform 22 miles of railroad and industrial sites into a sustainable network connecting 45 inner city communities is one of the boldest sustainability projects in America. The city commissioned US$ 6.14 billion to overhaul its transportation system. The project will connect inner city Atlanta,

11 downtown and 45 neighborhoods by rail, pedestrian trails and parks. The new rail network will re- develop 22 miles of abandoned lines and connect with the urban railway and new streetcar services. A further 33- miles of pedestrian friendly trails will be added to link the railway lines to existing parks and walkways. Atlanta Beltline will increase the city s green space by almost 40% adding 1300 acres of new parklands. The new Atlanta Street car will provide direct connectivity to the existing and transport services in Midtown and Downtown. It will also link with planned commuter rail, regional light rail and high- speed rail networks.

12 Education, Art and More Atlanta is home to one of the largest concentrations of colleges and universities in the country and is the top higher education center for enrollment growth and research spending. The city houses 57 colleges and universities enrolling more than 250,000 students every year. 7 technical colleges enroll more than 60,000 students each year. Georgia Institute of Technology, a predominant engineering, and research university is ranked in the top ten public universities in the US. Emory University, a prominent liberal arts and research institution has been consistently ranked as one of the top20 schools since 1999 by US News and World Report Atlanta is ranked the ninth best city in the US for the arts. The famous High Museum of Art and the Museum of Southern Art have partnerships with leading institutions such as the Louvre and Museum of World Art in New York and are among the most visited museums in the world. The Atlanta History Centre is one of the largest museums in the US again. The famous civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr,. was born in Atlanta and a nation historic site is dedicated to his life and work here in Atlanta. It is also the home to four major league sports teams, plays host to the PGA player s championship. The world s largest aquarium is located in downtown Atlanta that has attracted over 6 million visitors. It has 220 employees and over 1000 volunteers. The Zoo of Atlanta, located in Grant Part houses over 1300 animals with over 220 species and houses the country s largest collection of gorillas and orang- u- tans and giant pandas.
