3 Getting Started Guide - Introduction Welcome to Bell Business Backup! This guide will lead you through the 5 simple steps to install and setup your Business Backup service. 1. 4 Getting Started Guide - Minimum System Requirements For the Business Backup software to work reliably and efficiently, your computer must meet or exceed the minimum requirements specified below: Processor Pentium 166 MHZ or equivalent System Microsoft Windows XP/Me/98/2000/NT 4.0 ** Memory 32 MB RAM Hard Drive 75 MB free Display 256 colours with 800x600 resolution Ethernet Card and Drivers Installed and functioning Additional Device Mouse or compatible pointing device **If you have Windows 2000 or NT, you should have the latest service pack installed. Bell Business Backup is not compatible with Mac's. Bell Business Backup service is available to Bell Business Internet High Speed Customers in Ontario and Quebec. Minimum system requirements apply. Bell Business Backup service is provided under terms and conditions from Bell Canada. Certain restrictions may apply 3

5 STEP 1: Downloading the software Before you begin, have the following information ready in order to download the software (refer to the Welcome to Business Backup which was sent to you upon registration): 1. Exit any applications or programs before installing the software. 2. Open your Welcome 3. Click on the link to download the software for the service plan you ordered. 4. Review the Terms & Conditions of the license agreement. You must accept the terms in order to access and use the service. If you accept these terms, click Accept. 5. When prompted whether you wish to Open or Save the file, click Save and choose to save to your Desktop. 6. When the download is completed, close the dialog box and exit your Internet Explorer. 4

6 STEP 2: Installing the software 1. Double-click on the Business Backup software icon on your Desktop. 2. In the Bell Business Backup Installation dialog box, click Install. 3. Click Run. 5

7 STEP 3: Activating your service 1. You will now need your Ticket # which can be found in the Welcome to Business Backup 2. Enter your Ticket # in each corresponding field. Please note that the Ticket # is case sensitive. 3. Click Next. 4. Enter the following information: a) Your First Name, Middle Name (if any), and Last Name b) Your Company Name c) Company Address (optional) d) Business Telephone Number e) Forget Password Challenge Question in the event that you forget your password the Help Desk technician would ask you the Forget Password Challenge Question and you must present the Challenge Answer (f) in order to have your password reset. f) Challenge Answer the answer to your Forget Password Challenge Question. 6

8 5. Click Next. 6. Create and enter your Password. Retype to Confirm. Note: The Password must be at least 6 characters long and is case sensitive.. 7. Click Next. 8. Setting up Firewall Settings There are three options to configure your firewall settings. If you are unfamiliar with your company s firewall, or do not have access to its settings, contact your IT or network administrator or Help Desk for assistance. The information below will enable someone who knows the specifics of his or her firewall to configure the Agent for it. a) Select Do not use a firewall if you do not have a firewall. If you are uncertain about your firewall settings, you may wish to try this option. b) Select Use SOCKS proxy firewall if your firewall is a SOCKS proxy firewall. You will need to determine your firewall s IP address and enter it under SOCKS Firewall IP and the port that the Agent should use to connect to the firewall, under TCP Port. The Agent will use the SOCKS protocol to figure out which IP address and port to connect to in order to connect ot the Data Centre. For this reason, you will not need to reconfigure your firewall if a SOCKS firewall is used. c) Select Use proxy firewall server(s) if you are using non-socks compliant proxy firewall. You will need to configure both the Agent and your firewall to communicate. To do this, you will need to determine the Firewall IP Address and TCP Port, and possibly configure your firewall which will allow you to open port when requesting connection to IP addresses in the following two subnets: currently and These are the IP addresses of subnets where the servers currently reside. Enter this information under Firewall IP address and TCP Port. You will need to make at least two entries, one for each of the mirrored data centres. The Agent will connect to your firewall on a particular port that you specify. The port it connects on will tell you the firewall to connect to the Data Centre on port Note:Some firewalls require explicit permission for packets to come back, in which case, TCP/IP inbound to ports need to be opened for a response from

9 9. Click Next. 10. If you selected a firewall, the application will now test for a network connection. This may take a minute or two. 11. Click Finish. 12. The application will now register your personal information and activate your account. 13. Click Finish. 8

10 STEP 4: Setting your backup schedule 1. Select the days that you would like your backup to occur automatically. 2. Select the timeframe that you would like your backup to occur automatically. It is recommended that you backup after business hours when your files are not in use so they can be backed up successfully. 3. You can set up for a backup to occur immediately after the application detects that no backup has occurred for a specified number of hours. By default, this has been set to 36 Hours. You may change as needed. 4. Check here if you want to be prompted for a backup each time you exit Windows. 5. Check here if you want the application to ask you for your permission before backing up. You may specify how many hours you would like to defer your backups before it attempts again. 6. Click Next. 9

11 STEP 5: Selecting backup files 1. Indicate whether you wish to let the program find the files you want to have backed up or to select the files yourself. It is recommended that you select the files to be backed up yourself.. 2. Click Next. 3. Click Finish. 4. The application will scan your computers for files to backup. This may take a few minutes. 5. This is the Backup View. This tree list is similar to Windows Explorer. The left window is for navigation purposes and the right window is for file selection. 10

12 Red X s indicate files that will not be backed up. To select a file to backup, click on the red X beside the particular file and the red X will be replaced by a green checkmark; this indicates the file has been selected for backup. If you wish to backup everything within a directory or folder, click on the red X beside that directory or folder. You may be prompted with this window. Select Backup all files in this directory if you would like to include all files within that directory/folder in your backup list. Then click OK. 6. Click Backup Now when you have finished selecting your files for backup. 11

13 Retrieving Files 1. Open your Business Backup application by clicking on the Business Backup icon in the taskbar at the bottom right corner of your computer screen. 2. Click on the Retrieve View tab. You will be presented with a tree list that is similar to the Backup View. 3. Click Retrieve Options 4. You can select to see the most recent version of all files, a version from a specific day, or all versions of all files. Make a selection and click OK. 5. Select the files you wish to retrieve by clicking on the box beside the file/folder/directory. 6. Click Retrieve Now. 12

15 How to read the summary log The summary log allows to view the details of each of your backup transactions. You will be able to see the name of the file backed up, the original file size, the compressed file size, and the time it took to backup the file. 1. Click on the Log tab. You will see a history of backup transactions that occurred. 2. Click to highlight the transaction of which you wish to view the details. 3. Click View Details In the Log Details screen, you will see: a. Date and time of backup. b. File name c. Original file size, optimized file size, and compressed file size 14

16 Getting Started Guide - Uninstalling Bell Business Backup 1. Remove Business Backup Program Confirm that the backup software is closed. Then select Start Settings Control Panel Add/Remove Programs Bell Business Backup (remove only) Add/Remove OK OK. Note: If you attempt to remove the software by deleting it (Recycle Bin), the software will not be completely uninstalled. However, after you uninstall it according to the directions above, some files or folders may remain, It is all right to delete those; they are no longer needed. 2. Remove Business Backup from the Taskbar Select Start Programs Startup Bell Canada Taskbar Icon Delete Yes.
