1 Anti-Bullying Parent Information Night Dudley-Charlton Regional School District It is the policy of the DCRSD to take proactive, reasonable measures designed to provide an atmosphere for students, employees, and other members of the school community free from sexual harassment, bullying, hazing and intimidation.

3 Definition of Bullying Bullying, as defined in M.G.L. c. 71, 370, is the repeated use by one or more students of a written, verbal, or electronic expression or a physical act or gesture or any combination thereof, directed at a target that: causes physical or emotional harm to the target or damage to the target s property; places the target in reasonable fear of harm to himself or herself or of damage to his or her property creates a hostile environment at school for the target; materially and substantially disrupts the education process or the orderly operation of a school
4 Definition of Bullying What is Bullying? A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly over time to negative actions on the part of one or more aggressors.
5 Definition of Bullying Three Important Components 1. Bullying is aggressive behavior that involves unwanted, negative actions. 2. Bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time. 3. Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength.
6 Bullying or Teasing? Playful between both people Uses friendly tone Encourages friendships Doesn t lead to physical confrontations Can lighten a tense moment Uses angry tone/body language Continues even when distress is evident Continues even when topic is upsetting to others Accompanied by showing off
7 Definition of Bullying Hurtful teasing becomes bullying when it occurs repeatedly and over time.
