19 Premium Solid Public Safety Vest The ANSI standard was introduced in response to demands from public safety user groups who felt that the ANSI 107 standard was too restrictive. They wanted a standard that would allow a high degree of visibility for the user but at the same time needed a garment that was specifically designed to provide tactical capability. ANSI garments are an option for law enforcement, fire and emergency response personnel to meet the requirements of the ANSI standard in lieu of ANSI 107. The standard was written to allow for a significant amount of creative design flexibility. This provides the end user with options to meet the specific requirements of their operating environment. The options can include loops, pockets, ID panels, mic tabs, breakaway systems and colored identifiers. These are suggested not mandatory options. 23 ANSI, SIZING CHART, & ICONS ANSI What s it all about? Shining a Light on ANSI Class 2 is required for workers where traffic is moving at speeds of up to 40 miles an hour, and more importantly can be seen at a distance, so the driver has time to react. Typical users: utility workers, railway, forestry, survey crews, construction, warehouse. Class 3 is required where workers are exposed to high speed vehicles or in situation where visibility is reduced and traffic comes quickly into the work area. These are high-risk areas. These garments must be sleeved. Typical users: Roadway construction, flaggers, emergency response, towing operators, survey crews, airport workers. Class E covers pants in situations where the worker needs to be better illuminated a pair of Class E pants together with a Class 2 vest will create a Class 3 uniform.
