8 Fire Emergency Response Procedures R A C E Rescue Alarm Contain Extinguish Before you fight the fire Ensure area is evacuated Always sound the alarm regardless of fire size Know locations of extinguishers in your area and how to use them Know department emergency procedures and evacuation routes
9 Criteria for fighting the fire Fire is small and contained You have safe egress (EXIT) route (can be reached without exposure to fire) Available extinguishers are rated for size and type of fire When fighting the fire remember To keep an exit to your back When the fire extinguisher is empty Get out! When you leave the building do not go back in!
10 When not to fight a fire when Fire has spread beyond its point of origin Your escape path is threatened The area is smoke filled Your instincts tell you GET OUT
11 P A S S Fighting the Fire Pull the pin Aim low at the base of flames Squeeze the handle Sweep side to side P.A.S.S. Method Pull the pin This will allow you to squeeze the handle in order to discharge the extinguisher.
12 P.A.S.S. Method Aim at the base of the fire Aiming at the middle will do no good. The agent will pass through the flames. P.A.S.S. Method Squeeze the handle This will release the pressurized extinguishing agent.
13 P.A.S.S. Method Sweep side to side Cover the entire area that is on fire. Continue until fire is extinguished. Keep an eye on the area for re-lighting.
