GS150K Single Zone Detector Application Duomo is recognised within the Gas industry for providing a comprehensive range of low cost, high reliability gas detection for many applications. We have installed and commissioned Natural gas and carbon monoxide sensors in applications such as boiler rooms, kitchens, car parks, aircraft hangars, factories and shopping centres. The GS150K has been designed to meet all European Normative proposals for Natural Gas, LPG and Carbon Monoxide Gas Detectors. The 96 x 48 enclosures are panel mounting only. Operation If the remote sensors sense the presence of Gas the detector operates a pre-alarm relay - used for remote sirens or extract fans; if the level of gas continues to rise then the main alarm relay is activated to, either in the case of Natural gas, break the electrical supply to the Safety Shut Off Valve or for CO sound a General Alarm to allow evacuation of the area. Should a fault arise with the sensor or electrical connections to the sensor a separate volt free relay is activated. The Pre-Alarm cannot be adjusted, in the case of Natural Gas or LPG, the set point is 10% of the Lower Explosive Level (LEL), for Carbon Monoxide it is fixed at 150ppm. The Main Alarm threshold is fixed at 20% LEL for Natural Gas and LPG and 300 ppm for Carbon Monoxide. This detector can be set for either Carbon Monoxide or Natural Gas and LPG. Or both. GS150K Gas Detector Detects Carbon Monoxide, Natural Gas and L.P.G. 1 Year Guarantee 230V and 12V DC. Single Zone. Self Diagnostic Adjustable Pre-Alarm Catalytic and Electrochemical Sensors Audible Alarm Sensor Fault Alarm relay Output Manual Test Function 96mm x 48mm DIN Enclosure Panel Mounting A TEST button on the facia, when pressed, checks the complete function of the GS150K and its sensor. A permanent diagnostic check is made of sensor function. If any sensors should become faulty or be connected incorrectly the FAULT light will illuminate and the unit will fail safe. For any damage caused to people, property or animals resulting from incorrect connection, installation or application of this gas detector Duomo will not be held responsible or liable.
Overall Dimensions Fig.2 Installation Mounting the detector Panel Cut out Dimensions The GS150K must only be panel mounted. See fig.3 for panel cutout dimensions. The support clamps are supplied loose and must be fitted. The cables are terminated into the plug on the rear of the detector. Positioning Sensors The SG590 (Methane) and CO690 (Carbon Monoxide) Sensors should be mounted in accordance with the following considerations. Do not position next to burners, heaters or ovens where temperatures above the room ambient may be experienced. It is, if possible, better to mount the sensors on the opposite wall. This is, of course, dependant on the size of the protected area. Natural Gas is lighter than air and therefore will obviously rise, therefore the SG590 (methane) sensor should be mounted 300mm from the ceiling of the protected area. LPG (Propane and butane) is heavier than air so the sensor must be located 300mm from floor level. Fig.3 Carbon Monoxide has specific gravity of 0.97 and is therefore slightly lighter than air. However for positioning purposes at the concentrations of CO relating to the detector alarm thresholds the resultant combination of CO and air will neither rise or fall. The best position to mount the C0690 is 1.6m above ground level. If you require assistance regarding locating sensors please call our Droitwich Factory on (01905) alternatively fax a drawing of your application to (01905) and we will advise accordingly.
GS150K Wiring Diagram Fig.4 Electrical Connection The sensor can be located up to 100m from the gas detector. Cable size should be 1mm CSA. If the sensor cables are run separately in specific conduit it is not essential to use screened cable but if the cables are routed through conduit or trunking containing other wiring the use of screened cable is advisable. The wiring should be performed by a qualified person in accordance with current regulations. The plug in terminal rail makes installation easy and quick. The wiring must be checked prior to powering up the system. Main Alarm delay Main Alarm Action This can be set using the jumper which is position as shown adjacent to the threshold II relay timer adjustment. The action can be either continuous or pulsed. The continuous is the factory set default. This opens the relay in alarm and maintains this state until the levels of gas drop to a resettable level and the reset button on the detector is pressed. When using Normally Open manual reset solenoid valves with a battery back up system the pulse output is used. The pulse releases the actuator of the valve and hence closes the valve. If the power onto the valve was maintained it would significantly reduce the battery back up time of the system. This is adjustable between approximately 3 and 60 seconds. This is achieved by turning the II THRESHOLD RELAY TIMER potentiometer anticlockwise to reduce and clockwise to increase the alarm delay as shown in fig 5. Fig.5
Switching On the GS150K Before connecting the device to the electrical supply carefully read these instructions and check the electrical connections have been made correctly. 1. Connect the electrical supply by means of an appropriate fused switch. 2. The POWER and WAITING LEDs will light up. The GS150K is now performing self diagnosis. 3. After about 1 minute the Waiting light will turn off and the OK led will light. 4. Pressing and holding the TEST Button will take the device through a simulated alarm sequence. This will be:- Gas level indicator 5 light on. Gas level indicator 10 light on and relay Threshold I (Pre-alarm) is activated. Audible alarm sounds at 2 beeps per second. Gas level indicator 20 light on and Threshold II (main alarm) is activated. Au dible alarm sounds at 4 beeps per second. Releasing the TEST button leaves only the Main Alarm relay latched in the alarm position. To restore the device to the ready or OK Status press the RESET button this will stop the audible alarm and de-energise the Main Alarm Relay. 5. In order to simulate a gas leak use Methane Test LEL. The sequence detailed in 4 will follow. 6. A general Alarm will be maintained until gas levels detected have dropped and the RESET button is pressed. 7. To simulate a sensor fault disconnect any cable from the sensor. The GS150K will then emit a continuous alarm tone. The setting for the main alarm threshold is fixed at 20% LEL and is set during manufacture. This complies fully with European Normatives for gas detection. In Case Of An Alarm Put out any flames Close the manual isolation gas valve supplying the protected area. Do not turn any lights or electrical devices on or off. Open all windows and doors to increase ventilation. If the alarm stops it is necessary to find the cause of the alarm. This must only be carried out by a responsible, qualified person. If the alarm continues and the cause is not evident or possible to eliminate leave the room immediately and call your gas provider emergency line. They will advise accordingly.
Trouble shooting The Problem No lights are illuminated on the facia of the detector. One or all of the sensor fault light is illuminated. The detector is subject to repeated alarms. The detector is in a main alarm condition and the main gas valve is not closing. There is no supply to the Solenoid Valve The Solution Check that the electrical supply is reaching the device and that the plug in terminal rail is pushed into place. Check that the sensor wiring is correctly terminated at both the sensor and detector. Check that 12VDC is present at the sensor. The Green Light on the sensor should be illuminated. Pressing the MANUAL TEST button it is possible to check the efficiency of the device and if the sensors have been connected correctly. Ensure that there is not an occasional gas leak. This may be due to a valve or joint which leaks under pressure. Check that the connections are correct and that power is supplied to the valve, i.e. the valve is not stuck in the open position. The function of the alarm relays Both Pre-alarm and Main Alarm can be checked by pressing the TEST Button on the detector facia. The Main Alarm relay is a volt free contact, therefore you must connect the live supply to the common of the main alarm relay contacts terminal 3. A supply will then come from terminal 5 to the solenoid valve.
