If it does, but not through another application such as Ableton or Traktor then you need to refer to the help files or technical support provided by the music software application - Ableton, Traktor or other. 3 Are you running XP or VISTA?: MIXER WILL NOT CONNECT TO COMPUTER 1. If you are running XP, go to page 4 of this document. 2. If you are running Vista, go to page 20 of this document. ATTEMPTING TO CONNECT A XONE:3D UNIT, WHICH DOES NOT HAVE v1.25 FIRMWARE INSTALLED, TO A VISTA OS ENABLED MACHINE MAY RESULT IN YOUR COMPUTER CRASHING, OR IN A LOSS OF FUNCTION IN YOUR XONE:3D. Instructions for the firmware update process are found on pages 40 & 41 of the Xone:3D User Guide. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. 4 Confirm that the ASIO drivers have been installed: Open the Xone Configuration Utility. If the drivers have been installed, the text at the lower left of the window will state that the 3D is connected and will also show the firmware version. 5 Check Device manager: 1. Shut down the Configuration Utility. 2. Power OFF the mixer. 3. Connect to the same USB port that you used to install the ASIO drivers. 4. Power mixer ON. 5. On the computer START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL 6. Double click on the SYSTEM icon; this will bring up the System Properties window. 7. 6 8. Click + next to Sound, video and game controllers The ASIO driver versions should show as: XP Vista If these are different, contact Allen & Heath Technical Support ALLEN&HEATH Xone:3D trouble shooter for PC Issue 1 Page 6 of 20

8 10. If Found New Hardware messages appear for any length of time when the unit first connected, it is likely that the Xone:3D is connected to the wrong USB port, or the drivers have not been installed. ALLEN&HEATH Xone:3D trouble shooter for PC Issue 1 Page 8 of 20

USB Audio Device listed under Sound, video and game controllers USB Audio Device listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers, This indicates that drivers are not installed OR the Xone:3D is connected to the wrong USB port. 12. If the Xone:3D is not seen in Device Manager, then reboot the mixer (power OFF/ ON) and see if it now connects. If it still fails to register, try to connect it on a different PC, if possible, as you may have a problem with your USB port. ALLEN&HEATH Xone:3D trouble shooter for PC Issue 1 Page 9 of 20

10 Check Sounds and Audio Devices: 1. START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL 2. Double click on the SOUNDS and AUDIO DEVICES 3. In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window, select the Audio tab and, using the drop down menu, select Xone:3D WDM Audio as the default device. 4. Apply this setting and click OK. Close all other windows and open up Windows Media Player and try playing a file. This should now play through soundcard outputs If the Xone:3D plays through Windows Media Player, but not through other applications (Ableton / Traktor or other), it is possible that you have not configured the application properly. Refer to the Help files in the application (Ableton / Traktor or other). You have now checked the ASIO drivers, the Device manager and the computer s Audio Device settings. 11 MIDI CONTROLS NOT WORKING Check mixer is connected: 1. The mixer may not be connected to the computer. See page 3 and follow checks. Check that 3D is selected as the MIDI controller in the music software (Ableton, Traktor or other): Here are some screen shots from Ableton and Traktor as examples. Allen & Heath does not provide technical support for music software applications so please read the Help File supplied with the software you use, or contact their Technical Support team. Ableton 1. Load a MIDI template from the disc supplied with the Xone:3D. OR b. Manually map the music software controls to the Xone:3D MIDI controls. 15 3. Check XONE:3D to be Active. 5. Now the 3D is selected as the MIDI controller you need to: a. Load a MIDI template from the disc supplied with the Xone:3D. OR b. Manually map the music software controls to the Xone:3D MIDI controls. 18 Check MIDI operation with MIDI-OX: If your mixer is recognised by your computer as the chosen MIDI controller but still does not seem to be sending MIDI messages, you need to check the MIDI functionality using a program called MIDI-OX. This is available at If MIDI-OX shows MIDI messages sent from your 3D, the mixer is fine. If your music software is not responding to the 3D MIDI messages, you need to look at their Help Files or contact their Technical Support team. If MIDI-OX shows no MIDI messages sent from the 3D, the mixer may require service or repair. In this case, contact your supplier. ALLEN&HEATH Xone:3D trouble shooter for PC Issue 1 Page 18 of 20

19 BPM DISPLAY NOT WORKING OR DISPLAYING GARBAGE If the 3D BPM display is not working correctly, there are two options: For units running firmware version 1.00, 1.10, 1.11 or 1.25, update the Xone:3D firmware. For units running firmware version 1.25L or higher, it is not possible to update the firmware. Contact your supplier to arrange repair. FIRMWARE UPDATE If your 3D is running firmware version 1.00, 1.10 or 1.11, we advise that you update to the current version of firmware. Contact Allen & Heath Technical Support. If your BPM display is not working correctly, we advise that you update to the current version of firmware. Contact Allen & Heath Technical Support. 20 VISTA FIRMWARE UPDATE 1. To connect with a computer running Vista, the 3D must have firmware 1.25 or higher firmware can ONLY be installed onto a 3D using non-vista OS (Windows XP/2000, or Mac OSX). ALLEN&HEATH Xone:3D trouble shooter for PC Issue 1 Page 20 of 20
