Canada Goes to War War is declared. All of Canada is mobilized over the course of the war, both in military campaigns and on the home front. Roads to Victory The main Canadian campaigns in Europe leading to VE Day. Some Came Back, Others Did Not Personal stories of Canadians who lived during this period. They Walk with You (12 min. film) Immersion in the Canadian experience on D-Day and during the Battle of Normandy. Canada Today A modern and dynamic country: learn about Canadian culture, diversity and its actions.
3 TOURS OF JUNO PARK AND BUNKERS VISITS 3 & 5 TEMPORARY EXHIBIT ALL VISITS LIFE FOR NORMANS AND CANADIANS FROM OCCUPATION TO LIBERATION This exhibit, conceived and created by the Juno Beach Centre especially for the 70 th anniversary of the D-Day landings, tells the story of Norman and Canadian civilians (specifically children) from 1940 to A guided visit with a bilingual Canadian guide. Discover the story of the D-Day landings as you walk on the beach along the remains of the Atlantic Wall. The visit includes the bunkers in front of the Juno Beach Centre and the tunnels leading to a German command post on site in The exhibit answers the questions: What would my everyday life have been like if I was a kid living in Normandy in 1944, like my great grandparents? ; Who did the Canadians liberate when they landed in Normandy? ; Who were the occupiers?. Children will be enlightened as to what their great-grandparents would have endured during the war, as well as the meaning of Liberation. 5 stations immerse the visitor in a classroom, a family kitchen, the staircase of a home and the ruins of a city. The themes discussed in each station are a glimpse at the major worries of this difficult time period. For Normans: going without, forced labour, working in Germany, fear, the black market, curfews For Canadians: worrying, listening to the radio, reading the newspaper propaganda, rationing, recycling, being separated from family members, waiting Every element is adapted for young visitors. The subjects are simplified to preserve the vantage point of a child on events over which they had no control, but to which they were required to constantly adapt. More developed content enables adults to explain the stations to children as needed. An educational presentation in the temporary exhibit with a Juno Beach Centre guide is available for school groups aged 7 to 11. NEW Interactive activity on tablets led by a Canadian guide
4 EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES VISIT 2 School group presentations with a Canadian guide (as part of the visit of the museum). Upon reservation and according to availability of guides. Following the treasure hunt, each team can put together the personal stories of Bernard and Simone, 2 young Normans, as well as Bobby and Suzanne, two young Canadians. Pupils then compare their contemporary way of life to those of Norman and Canadian children in LENGTH OF PRESENTATION 45 minutes 7-11 YEARS OLD An interactive activity on tablets, led by a Canadian guide, enriched with authentic period objects.
