2 Bachelor of Music Audition Requirements 1 st - 4 th semester I. Main Audition Criteria of evaluation are artistic imagination, knowledge and expression of style, technical skills, and the choice of difficulty of the audition repertoire according to the students own stage of development. The duration of the main audition is 20 and 40 minutes if not declared differently. The audition jury may stop the performance of a composition. The audition jury reserves the right to fully test the musical skills of the auditioning student. 1. Piano - J. S. Bach: prelude and fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier or three to four movements from a suite (also partita) by J. S. Bach or G. F. Händel - Viennese Classical Period: one fast and one slow movement from a sonata - one work from the Romantic or the following periods - one etude Three of the works have to be played by heart 2. Instrumental Accompaniment I Piano Chamber Music - one movement from a work of chamber music with own partner - one movement from an instrumental concert or a virtuosic instrumental piece with own partner or Vocal Accompaniment I Lied Interpretation - one opera or oratorio aria as well as one lied with own partner - performance of an opera scene on the piano including parts of an ensemble (Viennese Classical Period, Romantic Period) adumbrating parts of the voices in the original language or in German - sight - reading Additional as an elective subject Répétiteur training dance - improvise a dance form (own choice) - two harmonic related improvisations in given phrasing and rhythms - improvise freely on a given motif (duration: ca 25 minutes) 2
3 II. Audition in additional subjects The audition in the additional subjects can be cancelled if the auditioning student did not pass the main audition. 1. Harmony and counterpoint (1 st semester only) - knowledge of chords in their various positions as well as scales in Major, Minor and modal Tonalities - invention of a second part to a given melody (either below or above the given melody) - harmonic analysis of a simple setting from the 18 th or 19 th century - continuance of a melodic incipit (duration: ca 15 minutes) 2. Ear training (1 st semester only) - sight-sing a simple melody - repeat basic rhythms through tapping - recognition and singing of Major, Minor and Modal scales, intervals, triads - identification of a simple chord progression - repeat through singing or playing and analyze a tonal melody: root position, tessitura, form (duration: ca. 10 minutes) Bachelor of Music Audition Requirements for the 5 th semester and above The audition jury may stop the performance of a composition. The audition jury reserves the right to fully test the musical skills of the auditioning student. 1. Piano - J. S. Additional for the elective subject Répétiteur training dance: - improvise a dance form (own choice) - two harmonic related improvisations in given phrasing and rhythms - improvise freely on a given motif Master of Music Audition Requirements The audition in the additional subjects can be cancelled if the auditioning student did not pass the main audition. Piano Chamber Music - a complete work from the instrumental chamber music (duo, trio, ect.) - a complete instrumental concert - six lied The programme shall include a variety of different stylistic genres including the Modern Period. - compulsory two weeks-piece 4

Lied Interpretation Lied - two demanding arias from opera, concert or oratorio - a slow and a fast movement from an instrumental concert or a chamber music piece The programme shall include a variety of different stylistic genres including the Modern Period. - compulsory two weeks-piece The candidate will be informed about the compulsory pieces two weeks before the exam takes place. The conservatoire will provide the singers. Vocal accompaniment: - presentation of three scenes from different works (opera, musical, operetta) at the piano with marking voice(s) in the original language - six lied - three demanding arias from opera, concert or oratorio. - a slow and a fast movement from an instrumental concert or a work for chamber music The programme shall include a variety of different stylistic genres including the Modern Period. - sight - reading - compulsory two weeks-pieces (scenes, arias or lied) The candidate will be informed about the compulsory pieces two weeks before the exam takes place. The conservatoire will provide the singers. Répétiteur training dance (concertante, without dancers) - a Grand Pas de Deux - a scene from a ballet of the 20 th century - three dances by Franz Schubert - a piece of danceable piano music - stylistic related improvisation on given structures and phrasing 5
