What s new in this release Monarch HD firmware version includes the following features: The Matrox Monarch HD is now a certified Works With Wowza encoder. Monarch HD users can now download an XML file with all relevant credentials to connect to the Wowza sever, select an encoding preset and begin streaming. Easier access to the Command Center. You can access the Command Center with the IP address alone. You no longer need to add the /Monarch as a suffix. Enhanced file management capability. You can specify a maximum recording duration for your session, and a file switching duration that automatically splits files according to set intervals. Quickly find the device IP address. You can quickly find out the Monarch HD s current IP address by connecting an HDMI monitor and powering up the device. The IP address is displayed on-screen for several seconds before the passthrough signal is displayed. Additional YouTube-compatible encoding resolutions. The following encoding resolutions are now available: $ $ $ $ New YouTube presets are also available. 128 (pixels) is the new minimum horizontal and vertical resolution for recording and streaming. 6 2 Additional information in the Command Center. The Command Center s Status page now includes the following information: $ Analog audio parameters. $ Media drive format (e.g. FAT32, NTFS, etc). $ Available space remaining on connected local media drive. Network disconnect warning. The LEDs on the Monarch HD device will now warn you when the network cable is disconnected. Additional audio options. You can now use 32 kb/s as the audio bit rate, and the user interface has been enhanced to make audio configuration more intuitive. Better network security. You can disable the Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) that allows the Monarch HD to appear on a network as a UPnP device. This prevents someone from easily finding the Monarch HD s IP address. Improved RTMP streaming capability. RTMP streaming functionality has been improved as follows: $ If RTMP streaming is lost, Monarch HD automatically tries to reconnect every 30 seconds until successful, or until you manually stop streaming. $ The RTMP streaming state is saved if a power loss occurs, and is then restored automatically after a restart. Support for the latest Wowza Media Server format. The Monarch HD s XML parser has been updated to support the file created by Wowza streaming engine admin Manager 4.0.4, including username and password parameters. Faster file closing. SD and USB drives can be removed quickly after the Stop button has been pushed. Known issues Please be aware of the following issues when using Matrox Monarch HD. Hardware reset required to control multiple devices If you want to control multiple Monarch HD devices on the same network, you ll need to reset your devices to factory defaults after you ve updated to the current firmware version. If you don t do this, your Monarch HD devices won t be found on the network when you click Scan on the Control page in the Command Center. For details on how to reset Monarch HD to factory defaults, see your Matrox Monarch HD User Guide. (VPG-9073) Known issues

7 3 Network connection and setup issues If you want to use Monarch HD in Static IP mode, please note that the default static IP address ( ) is designed primarily for the initial setup of Monarch HD using a point-to-point connection (direct connection between your computer and Monarch HD). The default IP address is not recommended for a traditional network setting. If you wish to use Monarch HD in Static IP mode over a network, after the initial setup we recommend that you change the static IP address of the Monarch HD device to an address that is better suited to your network. Firmware Updater and Finder issues When using the Matrox Monarch HD Firmware Updater, the update process may freeze at 8% or abort automatically on some networks. If this occurs, try the following: $ Update freezes at 8% If the updater remains at 8% completion for more than five minutes, close and restart the firmware updater application, and then begin the update process again. Restarting the firmware update at 8% will not damage your Monarch HD hardware. If restarting the application does not resolve the issue, temporarily disable any firewall or anti-virus application that is currently running on your computer and try the update again. If the issue is still not resolved, switch Monarch HD to Static IP mode as explained in the Matrox Monarch HD User Guide, connect an Ethernet cable from Monarch HD s LAN port directly to your computer s Ethernet port, and then run the firmware updater. (VPG-6999 and VPG-7991) $ Update aborts automatically If the firmware update aborts automatically, try the update process again. If the issue is not resolved, switch Monarch HD to Static IP mode as explained in the Matrox Monarch HD User Guide, connect an Ethernet cable from Monarch HD s LAN port directly to your computer s Ethernet port, and then run the firmware updater. Streaming issues When using QuickTime Player 10 to view an RTSP stream on a Mac OS X Mavericks or Mountain Lion system, you may experience interruptions in the stream. We recommend using VLC media player or QuickTime Player 7 for a better viewing experience. (VPG-9067 and VPG-9956) When using VLC media player with Monarch HD, the stream frame rate that is displayed in the Codec Details tab of the Media Information window is double the frame rate that is set in the Monarch HD stream settings. For example, if your streaming at fps, the frame rate displayed in VLC is fps. This issue does not affect the actual frame rate for your stream, Known issues

8 4 which remains at the frame rate specified in the Monarch HD stream settings. (VPG-7415) If the Monarch HD stream settings are set to stream at a Quarter of the source video's frame rate, video may be missing from the stream when using VLC media player, and the stream may not start when using QuickTime media player. If this occurs, perform the following steps: $ VLC media player GPU accelerated decoding must be enabled in VLC media player. To do so, in VLC media player choose Tools > Preferences, click Input and Codecs, and then select GPU accelerated decoding. $ QuickTime media player Direct3D video acceleration must be disabled in QuickTime media player. To do so, choose Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences, and clear the Enable Direct3D video acceleration option in the Advanced tab. (VPG-7201 and VPG-7202) When streaming at a video resolution of , QuickTime X video player displays the stream resolution in its Movie Inspector window as This issue does not affect the actual video resolution for your stream, which remains at the video resolution specified in the Monarch HD stream settings. (VPG-7363) While streaming, do not connect/disconnect a USB media device to/from a USB port on Monarch HD. Doing so may cause dropped/inverted frames in your stream. (VPG-7774 and VPG-8666) Recording issues When using QuickTime Player 7 to play back recorded files in Windows, you may experience audio/video synchronization issues. We recommend using VLC media player or Windows Media Player to playback recorded files in Windows. (VPG-9874) Occasionally, when using the file switching feature while recording at a high bit rate, the audio switch occurs before the video switch, resulting in a slight de-sync in the file. Bit rates may need to be reduced from maximum settings to ensure audio/video sync of files. See the Matrox Monarch HD forum at for more details. (VPG-9907) If you experience corrupted recorded files when recording to a drive that was formatted to the NTFS file system using Windows 7, re-formatting the drive from the Windows 7 Disk Management console may correct the issue. To do so: a Choose Start > Control Panel, click System and Security, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. Known issues
